"Before every game, we say 'Lads, we cannot let this slip away,'" the Frenchman revealed.

"We have to make it happen and to make it happen we need to be focused in every game, to not get 'big time'.

"We are Southampton. We are players like myself who four years ago was playing in League One. Never forget where you have come from.

"Hopefully we can do something special. We are believing we can but if we don't, the most important thing is to get Europe for Southampton."

I've been resigned to Morgan Schneiderlin leaving at the end of the season since he was told he's staying last Summer. Even when I've allowed myself to dream of a Top 4 finish this season, I still thought he would move onto a bigger club regardless. He has been a fantastic and loyal servant for us despite the blip last year and he would go with my best wishes. However, reading that article makes me wonder if (a big if!) we could provide CL football to him next season, would he stay with us for another season to continue the journey or even sign a contract extension? I usually wake up at that point.

If he does end up leaving then I would not accept anything less than £25m.

It would be an amazing achievement if players from our league 1 side ended up representing us in the CL.

Has that ever happened? Anywhere? Seriously doubt it.

similar, But Leon Britton played for Swansea in division 4, and probably in the Europa League with them.

Reports have linked Schneiderlin with moves to Manchester United and Arsenal and he says he "can't say what's going to happen in the summer".

He added: "That's up to everyone's personal choices and the club choice. We are going to see where we are going to finish and what everyone's going to do but right now I can't predict anything."

Fair enough if you ask me. Most people expect him to leave, but lets see where we finish and who knows?

I doubt we could afford the kind of money he would have to be on if he went to Man Utd. or PSG or perhaps even to Barca or Real. Can't imagine him agreeing to a penny less than £150K a week probably more. He's not going to accept less than some of the overpaid failures they've bought recently. So although I think he could be a genuinely great player and will be virtually impossible to replace I can't realistically see him staying. As long as we get £30k+ then I consider that he has done enough for us.

I reckon if we were to get in the Champions League then he will sign a new contract and give us one more year. Sure he'll be rewarded well and i do think he'd like to complete his Southampton story with Europe before moving on. The new contract would probably have a minimum clause and double the money.....Seen it happen before

Even CL qualification might not be enough. I would guess the Utd rumour was just made up after his performance Sunday and Neville's comments, which were disrespectful even though he tried not to be. I would be gutted if he joined another PL team, he's too good. Most have us have been aware of his quality for a few years now, I guess he's disappointed he is only starting to get the recognition he deserves. Would love him to stay, he's made a few comments in the past regarding us getting in the CL so it would be nice for him to represent us should we qualify, even if it's only for a season

Good for him. He is an essential component of this year's team and is committed to the hope and vision. Get behind him rather than turn every positive thing into a bleating "he wont stay" and "i hope we get £xm for him when he leaves".

He and the players are living this game by game so why cant we?

He is a great player in a great team.

I'd rather we kept quiet and just keep putting points on the board. By bigging ourselves up we just give ammo to those who want to diss us.

We're not bigging ourselves up, the players have to do interviews to fulfil their media commitments, they're just answering questions honestly. And I think what he said was just fine. Don't take it out of proportion.

My interpretation of that interview is that there's been definite shift. 1) Some people have implied he's not 'all-in' in his commitment to each game. But it's clear from this he's absolutely set on being part of one of the great sports stories of recent years. 2) He's clearly holding open hope of staying at Southampton. If we qualify for CL, yes, there will be a negotiation, but my guess is he would prefer to stay and continue the amazing story. We'd have to boost earnings, but maybe not fully match incoming offers. Of course with our midfield depth, the club may decide it's better to take a £25m+ offer. But I love what Morgan has said here. I think his plan A would be to stay and have a CL run with Saints.

Look forward to seeing this in full before the match tonight. "We are Southampton. We are players like myself who four years ago was playing in League One. Never forget where you have come from." - almost sounds like he's been watching the promotional videos a few too many times.

Funny that they would interview him before this match though because I thought he had a fairly poor game in the first match v Ipswich, despite scoring. It looks like he struggles to get up for the matches against lower-level teams because I thought it was the same against Sheff Utd. Absolutely outstanding at the weekend though so he's clearly capable of raising his level for the bigger games.
