Mr X Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 Better than expected, but still not good enough in the scheme of things! still only 1 win at home!
Um Bongo Posted 28 December, 2008 Author Posted 28 December, 2008 yaynay i guess. A point gained or Dropped? Many people think we were going to get hammered, so i'll take it as a point gained.
saintjay77 Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 would have taken a point before the game but it hurts to lose those extra 2 points so late in the game.
badgerx16 Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 How can we take 4 points from Reading, and only 19 from the rest of the division ?
badgerx16 Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 the table doesn't lie. It does if you read JP's post match interviews.
1976_Child Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 Le Tis looked really upset on SSN. Obviously not a happy chappie. Then again who is? Still, a point i better than none. God that sounds lame. Its like saying "its not the winning that counts, only the taking part". I'm going to sulk.
Leicestersaint Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 Given all the dire predictions on here - 0-5 seemed the prevalent view - this isn't a bad result. Taking 4 points from Reading is OK. The glass is half full. And we have shown it is possible for this side to score a goal!
saint lard Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 With both Forest and Donny winning that has tempered my cheery disposition. Atleast Charlton lost, but we still cant win and that needs addressing.NOW.
Plumstead_Saint Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 It's not the 2 dropped points that hurt, it's the possibility of 3 and a home win being dangled in front of you, and then cruelly snatched away. Again.
LaptopSaint Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 It does if you read JP's post match interviews. it actually sounds like the boysh didn't do badly today - especially without most of our midfield. but over the season we are where we deserve to be. need a big january. boysh need to become men. and we start with man utd. rollyeyesthingy.
SaintRobbie Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 yep think so.... Oh dear. The inevitable slide continues.
RobM Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 Fairly typical of our season so far really. Didn't expect much, performed well, expectations rose, ended up with a result that was better than most expected but feels like a disappointment. If we were offered a 1-1 draw before the game we would have taken it gladly. But a decent performance against one of the top sides in the league makes this same result feel disappointing. Meh. (edit) This result is probably just enough to convince those in power to keep JP.
saint lard Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 Bottom 3? OH,YES. 23rd,1 point behind Donny.

1976_Child Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 if/when the club goes bankrupt how many points are deducted? Is it 10 or 15 or 30. I'm sure Luton got docked 30 points.
spain saint Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 End of the year second from bottom and can't see us getting out of it. That just about sums it up!
SW11_Saint Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 yep think so.... 2nd bottom. Not good enough unfortunately. Still only ONE win at home. Appalling record.
Saint Matty 76 Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 if/when the club goes bankrupt how many points are deducted? Is it 10 or 15 or 30. I'm sure Luton got docked 30 points. Dunno, but I'd take administration to get rid of Lowe..
1965onwards Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 We need to totally disregard the games against Reading, they are a complete one-off team in this league. The other 22 are all the same ,who have sussed us out,and we struggle to get a point or goal against them. When we start to get results against these teams we can feel we are making progress,no sign of that.

Agree. I put our success against Reading down to the fact that they are still playing prem-style footie, which in a weird sort of way, we are able to deal with. It is the physical typical championship games we are useless against.
Norm Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 Well done 'Boys'! I'm sat here eating humble pie. I didn't give us a chance today.
sun of spain Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 Wait for JP's Dutch ramble on the OS now,all about how we were unluckyyet again ! Our home record will kill us unfortunately, unless miracles happen in January (striker etc).
eelpie Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 If Lowe and Pootvliet continue their experiment with the same 'success' we will end the season with only two home wins! Historians - has this ever happened before?

Our home record will kill us unfortunately, unless miracles happen in January (striker etc). What we need is a central defender. Too many goals from set pieces. Don't know how it panned out today but I wouldn't mind wagering it was something to do with Perry being 2ft 3 and 36 years old.
eelpie Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 Well done 'Boys'! I'm sat here eating humble pie. I didn't give us a chance today. Me too,I predicted 0-5
Window Cleaner Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 ! I'm sat here eating humble pie. . Makes a change from Cold Turkey anyway.

I put our success against Reading down to the fact that they are still playing prem-style footie, which in a weird sort of way, we are able to deal with. It is the physical typical championship games we are useless against. sadly there's nothing weird about it. everyone in football (jan? jan?)knows the championship is a league in which you need a big bastard of a centre forward and a big bastard of a centre back and you have to kick your way towards the right to play football. we try to play it from the start with no proper centre forward at all, and no bastards at the back. yikes....
hypochondriac Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 If Lowe and Pootvliet continue their experiment with the same 'success' we will end the season with only two home wins! Historians - has this ever happened before? Are we counting fa cup games?
badgerx16 Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 Me too,I predicted 0-5 maybe you are just a week early ?
1976_Child Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 JP just said that Saga is CERTAINLY back !!!!! Good.
70's Mike Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 sadly there's nothing weird about it. everyone in football (jan? jan?)knows the championship is a league in which you need a big bastard of a centre forward and a big bastard of a centre back and you have to kick your way towards the right to play football. we try to play it from the start with no proper centre forward at all, and no bastards at the back. yikes.... NORMALLY MY VIEW BUT Reading just have the big centre back and let you play football. Enjoyed the game until we went in front and then instead of going for the kill we started to muck around trying to retain poesission. Thought Gillett was good today
Give it to Ron Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 What we need is a central defender. Too many goals from set pieces. Don't know how it panned out today but I wouldn't mind wagering it was something to do with Perry being 2ft 3 and 36 years old. Complete utter ******** Perry was outstanding and won loads of last ditch challenges. I have not had chance to see the goal again but first impression was KD late coming off his line. Good performances from Gobern, Skacel, Cork and McGoldrick did very well today.
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 Would have taken the draw before the match so have to accept it now, other results didn't go our way but hey ho they rarely do and is never something we should rely upon, never kill teams off and get caught out by a dead ball situation.
leon86 Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 All I can say is we seem to play well against the top sides... That might bne the mentality of the younger players/team thinkintg that the club is still big and we will walk on the opponents... Either way something/someone has to give as we are up **** creek without a paddle or a proliffic goalscorer. Last year we got out of it because of Stern John, this year I can't see any of our other strikers scoring regularly. Bring on United...
Papa Shango Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 Played well today, thought we were unlucky not to win. McGoldrick played very well for the second game running and deserved his goal. Barnsley, Doncaster and Norwich games coming up are absolutely huge for us.
Toomer Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 Although it was a good performance today, lets face it people we have found our level with this group of players, manager and chairman. We are in for a struggle from now till the end of the season. As for Jan saying we can give UTD a game and win it what ever you are on can I have some.
graemeread1234 Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 David mcgoldrick is terrible. He scored a goal, but he overal play is just poor
Nexstar Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 Was a very even and entertaining game, couldn't split the teams and a draw was a fair result. I thought the boys were very good today with mclaggon running like a bullet through midfield to set up david. Mcgoldrick was suprisingly very good today, went for every ball and showed a lot of passion so well done to him. Slipped into the relegation zone yes but that was a very positive display and have two big games coming up against barnsley and donacaster.
Give it to Ron Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 David mcgoldrick is terrible. He scored a goal, but he overal play is just poor Rubbish slag him when he is poor but today he wasn't and competed and battled well. He held the ball up and linked up play between midfield and attack. Try watching what is happening on the pitch not what others want to here on this forum.

Mr X Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 oops we played plymouth since then i'd put that to the back of my mind
St Marco Posted 28 December, 2008 Posted 28 December, 2008 Was a good performance against a very average non determined Reading side. The truth is we had loads of possesion as we always do but simply dont know what to do with it. We did not really test their keeper with majority of our shots going sky high. We were the better team however as Reading just didnt seem interested. That to me is an important fact that us playing at our best against a team that couldnt be arsed still didnt have the know how to put the goals away. When we did score Reading turned into another team and if it wasent for Davis AGAIN or the woodwork we would of lost. After we scored we were the worst team and made mistake after mistake. The reality is if you said to me before our last 5 games we would have a point from Reading but lose the rest i would be unhappy. So i am unhappy. Unhappy that once again JP comes out thinking how great we are and no doubt were go on to draw against Man Utd but lose to Barnsley,Doncaster and Norwich. Then get stuffed in the replay. The guy is on borrowed time and we now find ourselves in the relegation zone. We can no longer hope results go our way as they have for the previous 4 weeks. If we continue in that trend were be further and further adrift. The next 3 CCC games especially the two away ones are massive and are must wins. Lose to Doncaster and Norwich and i think that will really be it for us.
