The Board

After the sh*tstorm last summer they quietly went about their job of reparing the damage and have since quietly disappeared into the background again to let Ron do his job. Mightily impressed with the way SFC is run and so good to see the club getting its just rewards.

I also agree, but in the interest of fairness and completeness the question as to whether the external communication to the rest of the world (fans, other clubs, media, etc.) was handled well is still a valid question. I for one think it wasnt.

And I wonder why these threads are periodically started, often after a good result. It always sounds like a "told you so" p*ssing contest.

Hands up who still thinks this man should be nowhere near a football club?

But as stated at the time, what external communication could the club have put out that would have made a difference to anyone?

Let's not start this again SM, there is no need. The board did fine in the Summer apart from communication over the Chambers transfer. Apart from that they did everything correctly, as we said they did then.

And Lambert (then again your timing and recollection of events over the summer has always been patchy)

I'd be inclined to agree.

Though I may be willing to accept that that one came as something of a surprise. I remember hearing it came about quite quickly, and it was pretty obvious Lambert would have wanted to go (still don't blame the bloke, I imagine I'd have felt the same). Though my memories of timings of statements in relation to transfers is slightly patchy. Was it Reed saying no players were being sold and then this happened a day or two later?

I wouldn't say it's valid now, I'd say it's irrelevant. The club have improved their communication over the course of the season. The only way is up.

A bit like the "told you so" p*ssing contests that crop up whenever things don't go as well as some people were predicting/hoping....? ;)

I fear a lot of fans feel they have to be told about every inpending occurance / activity / transfer before it happens. I think we realise that it's NOT " the Southampton Way".

It's surely one of those things carried over from the Cortese Era which I feel does no harm, and announcements should only be made when everything is done and dusted.

Questions to Ronald Koeman about existing players who " the media are plotting to transfer ", new players we are " supposed to be signing" in non-existent deals that come to nothing.

I've noticed that RK is very cautious with replies like we may sign another player, or that is for the Board to decide , or it's for the player to decide.

If they've done due diligence on the player and /or agreed with the Black Box stats. then they know what they are going to get.

We get little enough good press as it is, why get egg on our faces if we pre-empt a deal that might eventually fall through and we end up looking like mugs.

I feel fairly sure that the " other player " that Koeman refers to is already lined up, (and maybe even about to sign?), but work permits, international clearances can take days rather than hours and there is a psychological moment to announce such things, and it should be one that won't disturb the players confidence or disrupt the squad unity. ..after next weekends game might be better than tomorrow.

If I was Koeman / Les Reed, I'd be more concerned about upsetting the existing players, rather than a few over-eager fans who must know everything YESTERDAY !

There have been many good results Alpine. If you wish to slap an agenda on it that is your right. For me, I have just been impressed by the way the Board have got on with things and have melted away to let Ron and his team get on with it. They could have stayed in the spotlight and said We To You So but they have gone on doing what they do in the background, providing Ron the platform to get on with things. Ron is quite rightly getting a lot of the praise but he is just part of a bigger team and they are all playing their part.

It was without the permission of the new manager. By all accounts we had spoken to Koeman about him going and he agreed as they knew they would replace him anyway with Pelle.
