Saintandy666 Posted 12 January, 2015 Share Posted 12 January, 2015 i think despite what some people say, our team does have sufficient depth to make a *few* say 3-4 changes - and then subs later on - and still comfortably beat a championship side. I agree on playing Reed, Long, Targett etc, but don't think we need to overdo it. We can cope with a midweek game.
Dig Dig Posted 12 January, 2015 Share Posted 12 January, 2015 The players are heavily incentivised on the league performance and not the cups so I would never count on us "going for the cups" whilst that's the case. That's regardless of the team selection.

trousers Posted 12 January, 2015 Share Posted 12 January, 2015 (edited) We have more chance of winning this than finishing top 4. We need to win 100% of our remaining FA Cup games to win the FA Cup but only 65% of our remaining league games to finish top 4. Any probability experts out there? Edit: actually, if we take every FA Cup game to a replay my statement is a load of old tosh so ignore me as you see fit Edited 12 January, 2015 by trousers

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 12 January, 2015 Share Posted 12 January, 2015 I hope not, play the kids, Champs League is the priority. I could hardly disagree more. We do have a chance now at a CL spot, and what a splendid achievement that would be, but realistically it is a outside chance I suspect - we are rather more likely to miss the target and end up with the unmitigated horror of the Europa League #shudders#. Even if we did get into the CL we are surely neither funded, or for that matter experienced enough, to long prosper at that exalted level of the game. On the other hand I see no reason to believe why we don't have some sort of real chance of getting to Wembley this season - with a bit of luck of course. I'm easily old enough to remember '76 and thus I know what it means - I say our younger fans deserve the same experience if we can manage it again. Lord Duckhunter Posted 12 January, 2015 Share Posted 12 January, 2015 Depends on the outcome of toby 's injury. If its more than a couple of weeks it would be madness to play Jose with yoshida away. Also Clynn can't be risked without those 2 as well. Pelle for long, would leave MS and victor out , playing Reed , JWP instead .

CB Fry Posted 12 January, 2015 Share Posted 12 January, 2015 Wouldn't it be great if we didn't have an annoying game midweek so could be fully refreshed for the Newcastle game... Why would that be great? I'm looking forward to a important cup tie on national TV. Wouldn't it be great if we didn't have to read nonsense pretending that weaseling out of the FA Cup is some kind of magical rocket fuel that will take us to the Champions League. alpine_saint Posted 12 January, 2015 Share Posted 12 January, 2015 RoKo made the comment just before the game that "we look fresh". If he really thinks that had an impact yesterday, we will field a changed team. Having said that, I still think we will have more than enough for Ipswich. Still Arsenal to win the CL isn't very likely now is it. Back to Wednesday's game, think we might need to protect at least one of our CBs if not both, they're all we've got now so another injury would be sort of fatal. Haven't we got anyone in the youth sides who can play at CB against Ipswich ?

Sticky state of affairs then, it probably won't happen of course but if José or Gardos picked up an injury at any time in the near future we'd be up the creek, presuming that Toby's injury is as bad as it looked of course. I'd like to see long start up front and rest Pelle, also rest one of Morgan or Vic as the amount of running around in the centre of the pitch they do is phenomenal. I'd go with - ---------------------Fraser---------------------- Bertrand------Fonte--------Gardos------Targett --------------Morgan--------------Reed---------- ------------------------Tadic-------------------------- JWP--------------------------------------------Davis -------------------------Long----------------------- Rest Clyne as only came back from injury recently and 3 games in a week could be damaging. Interchange JWP/Davis/Tadic behind long and have the bull terrier Reed alongside Morgan and rest Big Vic, Morgan missing the Arse game should be a bit fresher. A bench of Clyne, Pelle, Wanyama, Cork (if fit), McCarthy and a couple of youngsters seems pretty strong.

Goalie66 Posted 12 January, 2015 Share Posted 12 January, 2015 All this rest is nonsense. Most players would rather play than train. There are no guarantees that any player can get injured at any time. Koeman has already showed that he makes few changes and only through those enforced plus bedding in a few of the kids. Every game we want to win. Get used to it folks

FFS stop buying into this bs that 90 minutes midweek leads to exhaustion on Saturday. We're not a little team any more, we're not lucky plucky Southampton anymore, stop patronising us, we should be seen as a top side now, we are there on merit, stop looking down us but also let's gutlessly wimp out of the FA Cup because I don't think we've got the balls to play a handful of extra games on Saturdays so I really hope we totally bottle it and get knocked out because that's what the big teams do or something. He can, but don't forget how toothless we were at Sheff Utd with him up top by himself. If we do go with him as the main striker he'll need a lot more support than he got that night.
