Need a centre back as Toby out now and yoshida not back til feb. Who ekse can play defense without hurting team? We won't ever be in such a great position so would you go for a centre back and centre forward? And take a gamble in jan?

Not for me, all signings should be part of The Plan. I wouldn't be signing players just to make a push, or to avoid playing a youth bro for a couple of games. If there's any spare money sloshing about, I'd be looking at tying down our top bros like Clyne & Wanyama and if he can be persuaded even Morgan on longer contracts!

Yes. Never going to have a better chance for CL football.

Would get a cover RB, Striker and depending how long Toby is out for, a CB.

Could also make argument for a better back up GK if you wanted to cover all weaknesses.

Get real.. we are not going to waste silly money in January. A Striker maybe the 'maybe' Koeman referred to this week in terms of signings.

I would think he would trust McCarthy as an emergency CB if we are unlucky before Yoshida returns.

The Bear Bro (Yogi - not the Jellystone one) speaks much sense here.... which is freaking me out a bit.

Only in the sense of paying a reasonable premium (say 30% max) for players that we intend to sign in the summer.

If anything, it might be easier to get more ambitious targets now than in the summer while we're actually in the hunt for a CL place.

I would rather we brought Jack Stephens or Jordan Turnbull back from loan if it was required. Assuming we are permitted to do so; I would hope that in at least one of their contracts we inserted a clause to allow us to do that in the event of an injury crisis. Losing TA for an extended period of time as well as Yoshida for a few games exposes us at RB and CB.

Why get real? We will never have a better chance. Trusting mccarthy is complete madness in this situ. If we spend and don't get champs league then we can sell in summer. If we get champs league can easily afford it and will need bigger squad. Surely we have to go for it?

Plus, you can just get a few loans in. Lots of players will be gagging to play in the PL and for a top 4 challenger.

Loan striker, RB and GK surely not excessive?

But we will probs just get one more in, the Club have theirs plans and csn understand that *****il Forster misses any games).

I think we should invest in a striker we are very lucky to have 4 CBs there is a general shortage of them so I think we will not get one perhaps a loan may happen

All depends on how highly Koeman rates our academy products - do we need RB cover with McCarthy there? I've no idea, I've never seen him play. If Koeman rates Gallagher (and he's back soon) we won't go for a striker unless there's a very good option open to us.

I doubt RK will have seen enough of Gallagher to make a judgement to be honest.

For me the stand out requirements are a GK , and a striker who can score goals.

Another defender would be useful, but I'd rather this was a target we want for next season rather than a temporary infill.

As ever, nail on head from Brian.

We dont really need another CB tbh, we have four adequate ones, perhaps we could get a loan in for a few months but Yoshi is back soon so whats the point ? Im sure there is a youth player that could step up. Or Big Vic at the back. No point buying another as it causes issues when all are fit.

If we are to spend now then we need a dependable striker, thats about it.

As Bear said, any spare money try and tie down the stars, or more importantly get Ryan and Toby signed permanently

Hello Charles, you were a particular doom and gloom merchant in the Summer as I recall? Has your attitude changed?

It takes a strong man to admit he got it wrong, as you did. Well done for carrying on posting! Takes some courage as you probably feel a bit silly right now.

Ferk me.... I normally look for your posts for the laugh, but this is 100% sense. Bearsy first? Quite right: stick to "The Plan"

I'd say we deffo need a striker (like RK said)

Pelle missed a lot of chances. He should have scored instead of hitting the post.

He misses too many at vital times and poor at holding the ball up and keeping it up front

Pelle is a good player.

Of course, its been a brilliant season. I still feel the early part of the summer was pretty shambolic, but Koeman was the turning point.

Got to go for it from here, will never have a better chance and plans should have a degree of flex to suit circumstances.

Also agree with Bearsy re the contracts of keys players. Whilst the likes of Fonte, Davis and Yoshida have signed new deals it would be great to secure one of the more sought after players on a longer deal.

Soz :( If it makes you feel any better, one time in Amsterdam I saw tokyos mum going for it in a window, and it's not something I recommend :(

All indications are that we're overachieving and huge expenditure is not part of the plan - it'll be interesting to see if anything changes if we make the CL with the money that comes with it (or indeed the EL, which is less rewarding). So far I don't get the impression that Katharina is the spending type - it was basically 7 out 7 in during the summer when adding around 5 more would have insulated us against all but the very worst crises, and we've lost points due to tiredness and injuries we probably didn't need to as a result (Villa and Burnley away being the obvious ones).

As it is, we're still one CB, GK or Pelle injury from likely points-costing problems, and we're now in a position where winning most of the 10 remaining games against the bottom half sides and the home games against the top half (Liverpool, Spurs, West Ham, Swansea) could put us in an incredibly strong league place, without even considering the aways at Newcastle, Man City and Chelsea.

We really shouldn't be taking any risks from this position when you consider the money available for getting into the CL. It won't be easy, there will be bumps in the road, but top 3 is very much achievable from this position.

Have we now abandoned all hope that JayRod will ever walk again?

Given the delays, I don't think it's a reasonable expectation that he'll be up to Prem speed the second he comes back, and it's a gamble to assume he'll play a significant part.

I rather like the "loan, with option to buy" deals we have done for Bertrand and Toby. Although, I'd like have our right-to-buy inked in not pencilled in.

Taking a CB and a CF on this basis might make sense.

I'm a little less worried about a GK, just cos I imagine the odds are that FF can play every game. But maybe taking someone stronger than Kelvin on loan would be prudent.

Do what...poor at holding it up? Cripes at times yesterday he had 3 around him and still found others. Pelle link upplay as is as good as I have seen in ages.

he is poor at holding it up, he is good at flicks and chesting it to a team mate. but many times, he needs the ball to stick to him...it rarely does.

he does get fouled like you would not believe.

he is a good player, just thinking if we could get the time that CAN make the ball stick up front and can put the ball in the net a few times, would be a good option to have with our system
