Shirt Pulling in the Box ?

the treatment pelle gets is mental

So many times in every single game, he will have the defender(s) all over him. yet, it seems he is the one penalised a bit more for it.

what makes dowd so bad was how he went back to warn smalling without actually giving us a free kick on one incident and warned him about shirt pulling

the way RvP was talking to him and threw the ball at him and he just took shows what a weak man he is

as for defenders shirt pulling. it happens. it the excess that smalling demonstrated that is beyond funny. it shows his limitations in his game that he needs to do that

Dowd is a spineless, little jobsworth. You think he would have learned from the criticism he received in the United-Chelsea game where Smalling, again the worst offender, had Ivanovic in a headlock and United should have conceded several pens for holding.

The Sky commentators claimed it was shirt pulling by both players when we could clearly see on the screen that it was not.

This was the moment I turned the Sky commentary off. I like Neville, but boy is he biased, Pelle had both arms by his sides and they said that both players were shirt pulling...utter nonsense.

Law 12 of the Laws of Football states that a direct free kick is awarded (or a penalty if the offence is in the area) if a player holds an opponent. If referees are interpreting that to mean that holding the shirt is not holding an opponent then you may as well have a free-for-all.

Some players take a weak hold of an opponent's shirt because they can tell where that player is moving whilst they're watching the ball come in. Just holding a shirt is not enough for a foul, it would have to prevent the opponent from moving freely. Smalling was definitely 'holding' Pellè and should have been penalised. I suspect that Dowd had been given information at some stage because he warned Smalling later in the game.
