So off to the ACON he goes then?

Yep. West Ham were going to send their own physios to the ACON to look after Sakho as they were ****ed off that he got injured last time he was away with Senegal and they didnt think much of the care. Wonder if we may do similar.

If Koeman says up to 6 weeks and Mane 2 then one of them is telling porkies...

Well no, they'll have named their squad without him and in theory won't change it unless they get an injury to a striker before

the first match. Looks like a bit of a put up job really, he obviously had an injury and it was pretty convenient.

Thought they said they were including him injured or fit?

Wouldn't be the first time and certainly won't be the last. Lets face it, Koeman & Lee are pretty canny buggers and play their high cards very close to their chests. Dave Watson will know where the bodies are buried as well.

I recall a certain Augustin Delgado being injured and forced to join up with the Ecuador team for the Gold Cup. Once there he was declared fit. played and completely bu-ggered up his knee and never recovered or played for us again.

I'd be VERY surprised if Saints were allowed to pick him for the duration of the AFCON without Senegal at the very least being satisfied he's genuinely injured, there are previous instances of nations preventing clubs picking players until after the international break is over - if Senegal think we've pulled a fast one, FIFA's regulations allow the suspension of a player from club duty.

There's also the risk that they might play him if he is half-fit, a la Agustin Delgado.

I think there's more to it than what's meeting the eye. ;)
How do most African players view the AFCON? And Asian players view their competition?

A real buzz and privilege or a bit of a chore?

I guess it maybe depends if their first pick for a side in a decent league or floating around on the bench in a 2-bit league?

What's meeting the eye is a rather cynical and thinly veiled attempt to keep him away from the ACoN, so I'd be interested to hear what darker motives are really at play here.

Is it even wise to have the African cup of nations right now, what with Ebola and all that...

The whole continent isn't affected and I am pretty sure they will screen out fans or participants who are vomiting or bleeding out of their eyes.

Considering that Morocco refused to host the tournament at all due to their ebola worries, it's at least a vaguely valid concern. Though admittedly Africa is a bloody big place and it's not like they've moved it anywhere with an outbreak or got any teams playing from countries which have the problem, as they were suspended at the qualifying stage.

And what about the ones who aren't vomiting/bleeding or showing symptoms? That Scottish nurse seemed to get through, albeit the screening was likely to be inadequate, but do you think it would be any better in the relevant places in Africa?

This is a blatant fiddle. If I was part of the Senegal set up id be wanting to see some scans of this 'iniury'

Well they can want on. Even if it is a "fiddle", it really doesn't matter because we pay the lad's wages, not them. As long as this "fiddle" is with his blessing and he's happy to choose us over his country then there's no issue.

Except Senegal are perfectly within their rights to prevent him playing for Saints in the timeframe of their participation in the AFCON, and FIFA enforce suspensions in club v country issues of this nature, so it's very much our problem.

Senegal angry at Sakho withdrawal

Senegal officials hope to prevent injured Diafra Sakho playing for West Ham during the three-week-long Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

guess we will be next if they don't believe us about Manes injury

They're obviously as deperate as England going into major tournaments with injured players.

Although to be fair, if he was "6 weeks" from New Year's Day and they got to the Final on February 8th, it might be worth keeping him around. If he's "ready in 2 weeks" as suggested above, their group games are 19th, 23rd, 27th, QF on 2nd Feb and SF on 4th/5th Feb.

No doubt his "ready in 2 weeks" is designed to say he'll be fit in time for the tournament start.

Could he do an Alex Song and retire from international football?

And then change his mind in a month or two......

Have we decided that he doesn't want to play?

Its a massive tournament for African players, Im sure he is desparate to help his nation win it.

Its Saints who made the injury out to be more serious, not Mane.

We also left him in the game after he was injured.
