But surely he was eligible to play the original tie, as his transfer was dated 3rd Jan. He wasn't selected for it as he wasn't match fit. He may get some game time vs Man U, and may be given more game time vs Piswich? Where is my logic in error, peeps?

Because he wasn't eligible for the first match, he was signed at 00:01 on 3rd Jan and the FA Cup deadline was 12:00 on 2nd Jan.

He wasn't officially signed until the 5th I think. Some crappy FA rules - he is unable to play in the replay. Couldn't believe they pushed out the FA Cup games into the week, they should alwasy be on the Saturday and Sunday, and then the draw at lunchtime on a Monday.

He signed on the 3rd, which was still after the deadline. The "some crappy rules" are listed above, and I'm not sure why anyone would want the draw at a time when few people could actually watch it. I'm also pretty sure the reason the matches were pushed into the week was the Christmas holiday fixture list and the lack of midweek matches.

You nearly gave me a heart attack then saying "Tuesday game", thought you meant Ipswich v Saints, which is (still) on the Wednesday.

Right, I get that you're referring to Everton v West Ham - not too bothered about them dragging the cup games out to Monday and Tuesday nights, but the not having any matches on tv on the Saturday thing was ridiculous. I think the reason for it was actually the holiday schedule - Prem teams played on Thursday 1st whilst Football League clubs didn't, and because the BBC wanted to show Prem teams, they couldn't work out a way to get games on the Saturday. Only Leicester v Newcastle and Villa from the Prem played on the Saturday, I think.

Personally, I would have had no problem with Blyth v Birmingham at noon or 5:30pm on the Saturday - what it did was create a two-tier FA Cup, with FL stuff mostly on the Saturday and Prem on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday.

They missed a trick not showing Blyth live though.

Swansea and West Brom played on Saturday too

Fair point, I was going from memory. That does still leave 3/4 of the Prem sides playing on the Sunday/Monday/Tuesday though, which is pretty significant. They obviously weren't the Prem sides the BBC were interested in. :o

The thing that really ****es me off is that the tech is there to televise every single FA cup game.

Don't think there are enough cameras in the country to produce the high level of coverage we are used to of every third round game! Most games will be covered by a single camera for highlights but a live game has a truck load of them. Do you have the same opinion of 3 o'clock Saturday kick offs in the premier league? Should every game be on TV?

I was thinking about going but the train from London is expensive - do we ever do travel from the capital?

Speak to the London Saints.

you can get the 16-02 at £16.50 and return at 22-43 at £9.00

or the 17-02 at £21.50

otherwise it gets expensive

They are. There is absolutely no technological reason that sky/bbc/bt cannot offer a choice of every single match through its services. Every game is televised and there is always at least one english live commentary of the match. The FA cup simply isn't covered because there is not enough perceived interest in the matches extra domestically.

With a kick-off time of 19:55 and the possibility of extra time and penalties the match might not finish until 23:00.

That desperate to see Cambridge v Luton, huh? Bad times.

For those with a Network Card, I think its still the case that its cheaper if you get your tickets to and from Manningtree (the stop before) and then a return from Manningtree to Ipswich, as Manningtree is within the Network zone. Used to be the case anyway, so possibly worth a check.

Definitely (well - like you say - that was always the way to do it anyway). I knew an Ipswich STH from Southampton who did it this way. Coming back I think it was Stratford you'd get off at - and then the Jubilee straight thru to Waterloo.

You can go to the ticket office at Southampton and ask for a 'network card return to Manningtree' and a 'day return Manningtree to Ipswich' at the same time. No pre-booking required and you ain't tied to a certain train.

For all those going then enjoy.
