Saints v Ipswich - Match Thread

Injuries can happen in training or any game. If we want to be successful, we just have to get on with it. Bring on the replay if need be, and lets win it. A late goal today would obviously be nice though.

Exactly, what kind of fan hopes for the team to lose games??!

It might do, hence me preferring to go out.

Oh well. We've got a replay and our manager will go for it.

Unlike you, he wants to win the cup.

So tough sh it - we're going for it.

Give over, you know exactly what I'm saying. I can't be assed with your pedantic crap.

Don't get upset because your logics been question, you claim to be a Saints fan yet you don't want a replay and would rather we lost than have one, you'd rather we lost and went out of the cup, that's odd.

To be fair, he's not being pedantic, your post was odd - as was the other above.

"I would rather we lost than had a reply"

You are saying that you want your football team to lose. That's not being pedantic, it's what you said.

If we win the replay, all's well that ends well. If we lose it, better we'd lost today.

Given that we eventually lost in the 1/4 final of the League Cup - do you now wish we'd gone out in the first round?

Surely this kind of comment is a bit silly? It's football - that's what happens, otherwise why bother in the first place?

I'm in the camp that wants us to play the strongest team and go for the cups. Which is why I was pissed off with MP against Sunderland last year. It's all hypothetical since no-one has choice in the matter, but my order of preference is win at SMS, win the replay, lose at SMS, with losing the replay way down in 4th place.

Are you asking - If we knew categorically that we would be eliminated during the 1/4 finals, should we have bothered fielding a strong team for the earlier matches?

Obviously we should not have done in this scenario, as we would already know that we will be eliminated from the competition!

Please don't troll or shout at me, I voted for you as mongboard sense poster of the year! Xxx

Lol - didn't even know there was a vote! Thanks though!

No trolling or shouting - just think these kind of hypothetical scenarios are rather pointless. We play games to win them. We don't know what is going to happen and obviously if you KNOW something is going to happen then you might plan accordingly, but it's football... no one knows.

Very sensible post sir - I'll vote for you again next year if that bear ***** doesn't rig the vote for his BF to win!!!

You're beginning to sound like RK. ;)

Anyway, I don't think it's pointless wishing (in hindsight) the tie was settled today (giving it our best shot), if we end up losing the replay next week. I bet a lot of us would think that next Wednesday if the worst happens. I mean given the choice, would you prefer we lose today, or draw today and lose next week (playing our strongest team in each match)? All in hindsight of course.

I think that's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me on here, lol.

I know what you mean and agree, but at the risk of repeating myself, it's a bit like saying 'Well, if I knew this wasn't a winning lottery ticket I wouldn't have bought it.'

You gotta be in it to win it. And we're still in it.

Yea, we're really going for the cups as shown by our stellar performances against Sheffield Utd and Ipswich Town. You can tell how badly the players and manager want it.

Sheffield United seemed to do ok away at QPR today so maybe these games aren't that easy?
