PhilippineSaint Posted 4 January, 2015 Share Posted 4 January, 2015 Its that way because it is laid on one half of the keel, if there is enough water at High tide to float it off it should be ok as there are no large rocks on Bramble bank to hole the bottom. other wise they may have to pull it off. either way its straight into a dry dock to check the bottom. CB Saint Posted 4 January, 2015 Share Posted 4 January, 2015 (edited) Whoever was navigating is in the sh it. It's not like the brambles are uncharted. Edit: just read that it was a mechanical failure when they tried to turn. also there is several million in cars rolling about in there. Actually, if the cars have shifted with the list, will that cause problems when the tides rises again ie will the change in ballast take the ship right over in deeper waters? Viking Warrior Posted 4 January, 2015 Share Posted 4 January, 2015 I feel sorry for the crew of the cargo ship that went down very close to Orkney . The weather has been extremely foul over the past few days .the seas and winds have been horrendous . The crew never stood a chance . The Northlink ferry that spotted the vessel was delayed for over 12 hours in Kirkwall for the winds to subside before setting sail to Aberdeen . The folk from Shetland would have had a rough journey down from Lerwick but were relieved they stayed 12 hours in Kirkwall . I went for a walk yesterday on the west mainland. and it's been a while since I have seen the sea that rough .

Kingsland Codger Posted 5 January, 2015 Share Posted 5 January, 2015 Had a close up view of the Hoegh Osaka from the ferry on the way to the match yesterday. The cricket pitch in The Brambles will never be the same again.
