Aziz Yebda Posted 4 January, 2015 Posted 4 January, 2015 I'd take him back, but he would just bench warm like at Liverpool.
benjii Posted 4 January, 2015 Posted 4 January, 2015 He would be pretty useless in the 433 system we used for the first part of the season but the shape in recent games with a second advanced central player could allow him to shine. Mane's runs + Lambert's passes..... However, I can't see him coming back and I feel Rogers has shafted him to be frank.
L1Minus10 Posted 4 January, 2015 Posted 4 January, 2015 I'd take him back on loan for rest of the season in a heartbeat. nothing to do with sentimentality. It's simply that when Pelle is not on the pitch we have absolutely no link up play at all. Lambert would solve a major squad deficiency. Someone on here mentioned his England career - there is no way he's going to get picked ahead of Kane, Austin and Carroll for the next squad.

Graffito Posted 4 January, 2015 Posted 4 January, 2015 Bring him home. We could have done with him tonight.
Saint Pete Posted 4 January, 2015 Posted 4 January, 2015 Would love to see him back personally and think he would do a great job as backup/sub for Pelle. But there's no way Liverpool will loan him back to us while we're ahead of them in the table.
scotty Posted 4 January, 2015 Posted 4 January, 2015 Would love to see him back personally and think he would do a great job as backup/sub for Pelle. But there's no way Liverpool will loan him back to us while we're ahead of them in the table. True. And fwiw, I don't believe for a moment that Chelsea would have loaned us Bertrand if they had expected us to be anything more than mid-table makeweights this season.
Whitey Grandad Posted 4 January, 2015 Posted 4 January, 2015 True. And fwiw, I don't believe for a moment that Chelsea would have loaned us Bertrand if they had expected us to be anything more than mid-table makeweights this season. Too true. Interesting that Chelsea must have given permission for Bertrand to get cup-tied.
Badger Posted 4 January, 2015 Posted 4 January, 2015 Too true. Interesting that Chelsea must have given permission for Bertrand to get cup-tied. I don't see why this wouldn't be permitted if he's on a season long loan. Presumably the only stipulation is that he can't play against them if we draw them in the cup.
shurlock Posted 4 January, 2015 Posted 4 January, 2015 True. And fwiw, I don't believe for a moment that Chelsea would have loaned us Bertrand if they had expected us to be anything more than mid-table makeweights this season. Why? They were happy to loan Moses to Liverpool last season.
SarniaSaint Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 You make your bed now lie in it The grass isn't always greener ETC Time to move on......yeah was great for us but don't want him back
SFC Chris Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 You make your bed now lie in it The grass isn't always greener ETC Time to move on......yeah was great for us but don't want him back The only real alternative we have to Pelle is Shane Long, and in the lone strike role that isn't much of an alternative at all. We'd be daft not to welcome Rickie back with open arms if the opportunity arises. That said, I don't think we'll see him back.
doddisalegend Posted 8 January, 2015 Posted 8 January, 2015 I reckon he could do a job for Palace. Pardew would give him a bit of self belief again and given regular playing time I reckon he would find the back of the net enough to help keep Palace up. Liverpool’s Rickie Lambert becomes an early target for Alan Pardew http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/jan/06/rickie-lambert-liverpool-target-alan-pardew

SaintRobbie Posted 10 January, 2015 Posted 10 January, 2015 (edited) Get him back. Totally agree. There are loads of reasons to allow Rickie back, but for me we need a striker. Simple. We need competition for Pelle. If he was available the impact on the fans for morale would also be brilliant. The impact on the players who know him would also be great...the grass is not always greener. Rickie couldn't do a thing wrong here. He'd play his heart out, he'd be loved and he'd regain his striking confidence immediately. Finally, it would be the greatest final chapter of his playing career. He would finish as a legend.... not as a criticised nobody in Liverpool. The Boardroom should go all out to bring him back HOME. Edited 10 January, 2015 by SaintRobbie

This, a loan until the end of the season with a potential agreement to sign him for 500k with hugely reduced wages would be perfect for everyone.
Delboy Dave Posted 10 January, 2015 Posted 10 January, 2015 Didn't get any game time at Sunderland today, he must be frustrated.
Viking Saint Posted 10 January, 2015 Posted 10 January, 2015 "Liverpool are anticipated to get rid of strikers Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert in the summer"........was it really worth leaving Rickie??? http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/jay-rodriguez-transfer-news-manchester-city-liverpool-and-tottenham-consider-january-move-despite-cruciate-ligament-injury-9969697.html
Toadhall Saint Posted 10 January, 2015 Posted 10 January, 2015 Please take the rose tinted glasses off. SRL was great for us but his legs have gone - he stays sharp by maintaining match fitness - he isn't getting that match time at LFC and he won't get it here which to me means it's pointless for both parties. SRL needs to be playing so that is where he will be loaned out to- the team that can give him that game time. All IMHO of course.
Saint_Tony Posted 10 January, 2015 Posted 10 January, 2015 His legs had supposedly gone last year when he supposedly made his poor contribution of only getting into double figures for goals and assists. A loan until the end of the season would be great for all parties involved. As for J Rod, I'd let him leave. Didn't realise he was already 25, think he might turn out to be another Walcott.

Last year is the key point you make.
doddisalegend Posted 10 January, 2015 Posted 10 January, 2015 Don't understand the legs gone stuff Lamberts game has never been about pace but intelligence and ability to find space.
Ex Lion Tamer Posted 10 January, 2015 Posted 10 January, 2015 Let's not forget that Rickie may well want to stay in the north west even if he leaves Liverpool
Ex Lion Tamer Posted 10 January, 2015 Posted 10 January, 2015 Although looking at the table there's not many options for him there. West Brom maybe?
VectisSaint Posted 10 January, 2015 Posted 10 January, 2015 Although looking at the table there's not many options for him there. West Brom maybe? Geography not your strong point.
scotty Posted 10 January, 2015 Posted 10 January, 2015 Much as I hate to say this, SRL was the first one out of the door when the summer exodus started. It could be that all this guff about allowing him to go to his home club was a smokescreen for "we're getting rid anyway". Whatever the reasons for his transfer, and much as I love the guy for what he did for us, I just can't see any way back here for him.
SaintRobbie Posted 10 January, 2015 Posted 10 January, 2015 This, a loan until the end of the season with a potential agreement to sign him for 500k with hugely reduced wages would be perfect for everyone. I just think that Lambert on OUR bench would be better than Lambert on Liverpools. He's a legend here. Nothing to lose. None would expect him to score often or play a full game, but by god the roof would come off at St Mary's when he scored once again. (& he's better than Mayuka...fact)
Ex Lion Tamer Posted 10 January, 2015 Posted 10 January, 2015 Geography not your strong point. Nice one. I just mean it's closer to Liverpool than Southampton is
Saint IQ Posted 10 January, 2015 Posted 10 January, 2015 Hope he goes to Palace think it will suit him, so wasted at Liverpool!
ART Posted 10 January, 2015 Posted 10 January, 2015 Having Rickie back on loan would be great, but my big concern would be that Brendon might use him to get more of our players to sign up for Liverpool.
Patrick Bateman Posted 10 January, 2015 Posted 10 January, 2015 Having Rickie back on loan would be great, but my big concern would be that Brendon might use him to get more of our players to sign up for Liverpool. Really!?!?? "eeeeehhhhh, yeh Graz, go to Liverpooooooool, it's great lad, you can sit on the bench and watch while they play Bor-f**king-ini and Ballo-f**king-telli"
Golden Balls Posted 11 January, 2015 Posted 11 January, 2015 Probably has too much pride to leave Liverpools bench to sit on ours. Plus it was a big deal to move his family back, he'll want to stay up that way.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 11 January, 2015 Posted 11 January, 2015 As Lambert is close to Gerrard it may explain why Rodgers has gone off him!
Charlie Wayman Posted 11 January, 2015 Posted 11 January, 2015 Ricky needs to be careful, Rodgers will be toast in the close-season and the annual clear-out of his signings will see Rickie struggling to find any club in the top two tiers willing to sign him - just too darned old. Sadly he'll end up at Tranmere or Oldham if he insists on staying up North.

SaintRobbie Posted 11 January, 2015 Posted 11 January, 2015 Right now I'd rather have Lambert than Pelle. Reason? New formation requires a striker who can hold a ball and then pass it. Pelle is useless at taking down, holding and passing a ball. Lambert is a master at it.
yellow&blue Posted 14 January, 2015 Posted 14 January, 2015 Well he's off the West Brom according to the Daily Star, and the BBC have backed it up on their sports day page.... http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/420095/Liverpool-West-Brom-Rickie-Lambert
