Lambert Hints To Going On Loan

Phil Thompson suggesting Lambert wants to go on loan in January .

They won't let him come to is but could see him going to Palace with Pardew

I reckon he could do a job for Palace. Pardew would give him a bit of self belief again and given regular playing time I reckon he would find the back of the net enough to help keep Palace up.

dream? sounds like a nightmare.

He still hasn't scored at Anfield, correct?

I am still not saying he regrets the decision, but it seems the dream hasn't worked out quite like he has hoped. As another poster noted, he would have regretted not taking the opportunity to go to Liverpool, but it seems reality has set in for him.

I hope he succeeds wherever he goes.

I seem to remover him getting one in an early European game. Maybe a header.

I don't get the worship of Lambert, he did well for us thro' the divisions and he had a fairy story England debut thanks to what we had made him but he began the exodus. I'm sorry but I don't wish any of that lot well. I feel differently about Walcott because the Club at that time was a total mess spiralling out of control

Considering this time last year we were about to sell him to WHU you can't say he began the exodus in the summer. The club were going to flog him regardless. The only real shock was it was Liverpool that wanted him.

Fair enough I think the guy is a legend. First signing of the new owners without his goals and assists we might not be were we are to day. Of all the players that left in the summer he is the only one I have any time for.

To be fair I don't think him going made any difference to the likes of Lallana and Lovren etc bailing out. The worship is because the guy is a quality player and proved that you don't have to play for a big club to get a game for England.

He has also consistently said good things about us since he left and mentioned us wherever possible giving us a huge amount of credit in contrast to some of the other leavers.

Watched that NBC doc last night, and he actually wells up a bit when he says' I owe everything to Southampton'. So did I...

Although it hasn't worked out, he can always say that he played for Liverpool and I hope they paid him a fair wack.

I think the pay rise was fairly substantial, but I always felt it was an odd move. It would be his last major move at his age and let's be fair, he was never going to be their main front man. Not much room for sentimentality in modern PL football so the chance to set his family up must have been the driving force. Also noticeable that no one on here has so far suggested he come back to us on loan as an alternative to Pellè.......

Give over.....he is a top bloke and without him we would not be where we are now. You honestly think Barnard and Connolly would get us promoted to the premier league?

Unless he goes out on loan and gets to play regularly, his England career is effectively over now Andy Carroll is back in the frame. Let Ricky's story be a warning to young players that the grass is not always greener elsewhere.

Did I say anything about Barnard or Connolly, did I say anything against Lambert we all know what he did for us and what we did for him, i just said he began the exodus. Now I add, he made his Liverpool bed (very foolish) now he has to lie on it, he wouldn't get in this team, except as an occasional sub, as at Liverpool

You started with the Walcott love in.. What the hell did he do for southampton football club? Not even Gareth Bale (worlds most expensive player) got us promoted. Where as Rickie without his goals we would still be in league one now. I can't believe "some" saints fans can even doubt lamberts contribution to saints

I don't think Rickie leaving started the exodus. It was really Poch leaving that started it- and arguably you can date back to Cortese.

Oh well, f*ck the lot of them that left, except Rickie. We granted him his fairytale move (which is now turning rather sour)!

Fk this. A loan in his first/last year at LFC makes it look like they weren't interested in the first place.

He had to sign before the world cup. Surely he was pretty high up in their targets or it was something else?

I have long believed that a lot of prem transfers are made in order to deprive the selling club of an asset. The buying club don't necessarily intend to use the player much, if at all. That said, in Lamberts case I initially reckoned it more likely that the dippers were buying the lambert/lallana partnership.

Terry Paine from Winchester and Rickie Lambert from Bristol Rovers were in my opinion the best two signings the Saints ever bought in both England Internationals one a World Cup Winner the other a player in the last World Cup were largely responsible for our rises from the third tier to the top tear.

They will always be club legends lets leave it at that

Exactly right, agreed , the difference is that Terry was pushed out on a 'free' because Lawrie Mc found him too much of a rival boss while Lambert wanted to go

how does that happen?

A lot of players looked up to Rickie and enjoyed having him around it wouldnt have been the sole reason to follow him but Liverpool knew that once they got Rickie others were sure to follow!

I'd say recruiting Matt le tissier was the best .

I agree MLT was a fine player probably the most skillful player ever he did keep us in the PL but the years he played were not that successful for the club.

Paine and Lambert got us two promotions played in World Cups played in European Competitions so that is why I think overall they have contributed more to the club in a positive way.

We are now an established PL and were when MLT joined but 50 years ago we were far from that until Bates Paine Chivers Sydenham Knapp et al got us into Div 1

Lambert would be good cover, things haven't worked out for him at Liverpool, but we know he can do a job here. Pelle can't be expected to play every game. It's minimal risk, and allows the club until the end of the season, as I'm sure whether or not we get european qualification is going to be a massive factor in our summer transfer strategy.

Rickie Lambert is a Southampton legend, one of the best signings in my lifetime ( I'm in my 50's). He was the best striker in league one and was always going to score a shed load down there. However, the goals he scored in the championship were priceless, to go through that league in one go is what launched this club back to the big time. The way be played in the premiership and the goals he scored were a bonus. Where ever he plays I hope he is sucsessful.

Just cast your mind back to how you felt when he headed that one in against the jocks.

If you don't get it, there's no hope for you.

He's basically the definition of legend for a club like us.
