JoeShmoe Posted 4 January, 2015 Share Posted 4 January, 2015 Steven Davis. He is so so underrated, but massively important to the team. His work rate is unbelievable; he's the guy that links play with the forwards but he never neglects defensive duties either. His first touch for the second goal against Arsenal was ridiculous. saintstr1 Posted 4 January, 2015 Share Posted 4 January, 2015 The team is not the same without Pelle, his workrate and hold up play is tops and allthough the goal scoring touch has left him at the moment he will score a ot more with a little more luck. I can see him finishing the season on 20+ goals and being the player of the season.
Roger Posted 4 January, 2015 Share Posted 4 January, 2015 This He's been good but plays an advanced role and 0 goals so can't win IMO.
St_Tel49 Posted 5 January, 2015 Share Posted 5 January, 2015 It would be interesting to see the sum of all the votes for the first 19 games for each player in the MoM polls. That would give us some sort of objective figure - and yes I know that each MoM poll is based on opinion too but each poll tends to be clear cut in its result. However, that aside, for me it is Davis for sheer consistency of high quality performances.
verlaine1979 Posted 5 January, 2015 Share Posted 5 January, 2015 He's been good but plays an advanced role and 0 goals so can't win IMO. Typical stat-obsessed fan. Didn't you get the memo? Davis has transcended the common banalities of football, and doesn't lower himself to vulgar pursuits like scoring or directly assisting goals. Instead, he does his work behind a veil of hermetic secrecy that only the keenest eyes can penetrate. At least that's what I'm told whenever I point out that in terms of measures like key passes, assists, goals and every other statistic we have to rate the performance of attacking midfielders, he's bang average. Saint IQ Posted 5 January, 2015 Share Posted 5 January, 2015 Clyney for me, constantly in the side up until a couple of games ago and constantly a class act. Can't pick 2nd or 3rd as there are about 7 players that i could put there
nta786 Posted 5 January, 2015 Share Posted 5 January, 2015 1) Toby 2) Wanyama 3) Davis 4) Clyne 5) Fonte However, shoutouts to Bertrand and Pelle, as well as Tadic, Morgan and Fraser Forster.
sadoldgit Posted 5 January, 2015 Share Posted 5 January, 2015 The reason we are doing so well is that for the most part we are playing well as a team. RK and the backroom staff should take a lot of credit for the job they have done this season. The fact that it is so hard to single one player out says it all. Great team effort! KelvinsRightGlove Posted 5 January, 2015 Share Posted 5 January, 2015 Big Vic has been immense all season for me. Not hearing so much talk of kicking him out for Cork of late, funny that. Toby has been an absolute rock too. The guy really is a quality player. Surprised we managed to land him really. Could certainly have helped shore up Arsenal, Utd or Liverpool. Would be a snip for all of them too, considering their budgets.
Saint_Ash Posted 5 January, 2015 Share Posted 5 January, 2015 1) Big Vic for me, the last two games at home against Chelsea and Arse have epitomised him at his best. He can easily step up to a Champions League team and I'd be more worried about him going than Morgan if I'm honest. 2) Toby number 2, what a defender, reads the games so well and oozes class. theplayer Posted 6 January, 2015 Share Posted 6 January, 2015 In my humble opinion it has to be Steven Davis, who just shades it from Nathaniel Clyne!
sussexsaint Posted 6 January, 2015 Share Posted 6 January, 2015 Gestalt - the whole is better than the sum of its parts. Very hard to pick an individual when the most impressive aspect of our team at the moment is the way they gel together
thesaint sfc Posted 6 January, 2015 Share Posted 6 January, 2015 As much as I really hope Morgan stays with us, it's really reassuring to hardly see his name mentioned in this thread! I'll be really disappointed if he goes, but who would have thought our team would survive this league without him at the beginning of the season? trousers Posted 6 January, 2015 Share Posted 6 January, 2015 Schneiderlin for me. First name on the team sheet when available.
fanimal Posted 6 January, 2015 Share Posted 6 January, 2015 says it all to that of the 10 names mentioned by nta above, if any are out, like Clyne at the moment, we feel we are missing a key component. Definitely a case of the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. But Toby is awesome, we have not had someone with his timing, awareness and class for many a year. SNSUN Posted 6 January, 2015 Share Posted 6 January, 2015 If this were an actual award, I'd give it to Toby to encourage him to stay. It would be well deserved too. But as has been said, there are a few who could nick it. My vote would go to Clyne though. Consistently brilliant, scored some important goals, and made the England right back slot his own to boot.
