percy windham Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 I must take credit for this, his form this season is all down to me labelling him the Japanese alan Bennett.
mdearlove Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Nice one - excellent cover and happy to be a squad player.
Turkish Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 I'm glad the club listened to me when i posted that he was a great 4th choice centre back and squad option.
Yuki Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 What superb news. Maya is a fantastic player and I am so happy for him and all Southampton fans who can enjoy his satisfying performances for more years.
Jack Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Good news. We need to have capable players who are happy enough to be a squad player, and he's exactly that.
Smirking_Saint Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Really happy with this, MLG prayed it wouldnt happen but Im glad it did
farawaysaint Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Fantastic cover and actually wants to be here and compete (Boruc take note) I am very happy this deal has been agreed.
Turkish Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Really happy with this, MLG prayed it wouldnt happen but Im glad it did More proof that Prayers are pointless?
jampot Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Great news and he does this season to of improved his all round game....
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Pleased for the guy. Seems a decent chap, has stepped in and performed very well when called upon this season. Good to have blokes like that in the squad.
Saint Charlie Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Excellent. He has improved a lot since he first joined and is reliable and nearly always fit. Cork next.
Smirking_Saint Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 More proof that Prayers are pointless? For every prayer a child dies
farawaysaint Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 First ever tweet. https://twitter.com/MayaYoshida3
Batman Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 (edited) Great move by the club he seems perfectly happy with his role at the club always going to play a part in the season and can cover for the odd game at full back good for him too, to be part of a good squad and he will always be fresh for Japan, which I guess is very important to him good signing by the club which allow games with 3 at the back, which he seems to be suited at Edited 2 January, 2015 by Batman
lifeintheslowlane Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Very pleased to hear this, a whole-hearted player...good cover.
Lorne Malvo Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 http://www.universal-music.co.jp/yoshida-maya
stevegrant Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 http://www.universal-music.co.jp/yoshida-maya This amused me
doggface Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Spooky, just thinking about his situation in my head and thought a 3 year deal would be in order. Come on here to see it agreed, odd!
JxgrSaint Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Will be perfect for our Champions League qualifiers against APOEL Nicosia or BATE Borisov....
Toomer Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Pleased with that thought the back four looked a bit better when he came on against Arsenal.
richard Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Good! Next: Toby Cork Bertrand Spiderman (ok, this probably won't happen but please please please)
Coldridge Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Hopefully we will qualify for Europe. Would be good to see him get more game time under his belt as he is a quality player in a very competitive defense.
hans gruber Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Fantastic news Great player to have around the club. Also sales of southampton football club merchandise have increased 34% in japan since he first signed for the club
sadoldgit Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Does that mean that have sold an extra shirt?
sussexsaint Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Great news - lovely chap as well was very good with my lad before the first home game
davefizzy14 Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 What superb news. Maya is a fantastic player and I am so happy for him and all Southampton fans who can enjoy his satisfying performances for more years. Terrific news, Maya has been outstanding recently. Well done to the board for getting this done before he heads off with Japan.
dronskisaint Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Very happy - good cover for whatever back line system we play and has been resolutely loyal and consistent....and on the 'devil you know' principle it's hard to see how we could do better by gambling a similar fee for someone we don't! Congratulations Maya!
Bearsy Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 It's another kick in the nuts for MLG All his predictions are going wrong! He says prayers are wasted on Clark Carlisle, but baby Jesus spares his life. He predicts that Tim's beloved will be driven Sylvia Plath by unwanted advances, but she receives them with gratitude. And now Yoshida, who is not good enough to play for Saints, receives 3 year contract! Bro just can't win!
igsey Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 He's improved dramatically over the last year or so, he's an excellent little player. No longer do I have that small panic attack when I see his name on the teamsheet; he's proved to be capable and reliable in this league.

angelman Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Nice one - excellent cover and happy to be a squad player. I'm glad the club listened to me when i posted that he was a great 4th choice centre back and squad option. Not sure you are right. If we play a 5-3-2/3-5-2 bit with 3 centre backs, he isn't cover/back up.
The Cat Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Good news. Another right decision from Les Reed who is on course be considered as the greatest Director of Football* the world has ever known. If the man isn't honoured by the Queen in the next few years it will be utterly unjust. *or whatever his sodding job title is

Lighthouse Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Excellent news. If we can secure Toby's services permanently we should be sorted at centre back for a while, four decent and varied options there and all except Fonte are relatively young. Cork next please.
Dark Munster Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Does that mean that have sold an extra shirt? Now, now, be fair. It's 34 extra shirts.
Halo Stickman Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 I’m very pleased with this news – Yoshida is an important member of the squad, a very decent defender, and has an excellent attitude, imo.
Mr X Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Good! Next: Toby Cork Bertrand Spiderman (ok, this probably won't happen but please please please) yup morgan has already said he's going to a bigger club, think the club agreed he could move in jan from his last tantrum
Redslo Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 yup morgan has already said he's going to a bigger club, think the club agreed he could move in jan from his last tantrum There is no evidence the club agreed he could move in January and lots of evidence that he will not. Next summer is a different matter, of course.
david in sweden Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 (edited) despite the number 3 on his shirt, he nearly always ends up as substitute right back, and not so often at the back...or on the left. (I'm talking about Yoshida BTW -as some people seem to have drifted away from the OP.) - has rarely had a run of games in the past so as to be called ..consistant, but has quite looked capable in the last few outings. He knows the club.. and the formation and his team mates - certainly a better bet than importing ...yet another CB. Good decision. Edited 2 January, 2015 by david in sweden
Charlie Wayman Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Good news. We need to have capable players who are happy enough to be a squad player, and he's exactly that. Like you mean a squad player that plays every game... LOL. I like the lad, he has adapted well to what to a very disciplined Japanese must be an unsettling informal joshy culture and has worked his socks off to improve his all-round game to the level needed at the top of the PL. Absolutely delighted that Maya will be here for a few more years, a natural leader who brings much needed dedication to the dressing room. Players who want to be here are the players we should want to keep.
austsaint Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 He's improved dramatically over the last year or so, he's an excellent little player. No longer do I have that small panic attack when I see his name on the teamsheet; he's proved to be capable and reliable in this league. Six foot 2 - not that little. Great reward for a good squad player.
SNSUN Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 I agree, a good decision by the club and by Maya. He's gotten better this season when I've seen him too, and he's only 26, he's yet to hit his prime as a centre back yet.
Saint86 Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Great news for Maya, delighted for him. Very professional, competent and a great squad player.
Saint_Tony Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Ive been critical of him, but he's been reliable when called upon these last few games, even playing at rb wheres he been hopeless before. Good backup player, we have some really good defensive options, but will probably need a couple more for Europe next season.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 A few months ago I was of the opinion that it felt right to create a space for Stephens or Turnbull and let Maya go but his performances of recent have been very good and I can't say this is a bad deal for us - as long as he is happy to understand where he is in the pecking order. I suspect (and hope!) that *if* we have European football next season he will be of even more importance to us with the increase in games. One criticism of him (and it is not unique to him to be fair) is that it takes him a while to get up to speed when he hasn't had many games - and as a backup that poses a bit of a problem. But we'll just have to live with that as it is understandable.
Saint_clark Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Only 26 so should have him signed up for most of his prime now, excellent. If we do progress any further then unfortunately we will probably look for someone a bit better but at least he's proven himself capable enough that we'll get a decent sized fee for him.
