supersonic Posted 1 January, 2015 Posted 1 January, 2015 Just a thought, if Harry Reed continues playing and developing the way that he is, where does that leave Jack Cork? Not for one minute suggesting that after 2 PL appearances this season that Reed is better than Cork, but thought came into my head during the game today.
simo Posted 1 January, 2015 Posted 1 January, 2015 Didn't Ron say he would like him to stay past the summer or something to that effect?
washsaint Posted 1 January, 2015 Posted 1 January, 2015 He did and Cork will be a good squad player if he signs a new contract.
Colinjb Posted 1 January, 2015 Posted 1 January, 2015 The mantra of not blocking the path to the first team for the youth players was mentioned again in the NBC documentary tonight. Considering that central midfield is one of our more populous positions I cannot help but feel that it may be a case of Cork being surplus to requirements which is a shame because he was for me a key factor in our improved form at the start of the 12/13 season when we dragged ourselves out of relegation danger and has always been very useful. Hopefully something can be sorted out to see him stay beyond this year.
Redslo Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 If we make Europe no one currently with the team is surplus to requirements.
Ex Lion Tamer Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 When Schneiderlin leaves in the summer (assuming we don't make the Champions League) will we buy a replacement, or will Cork have more opportunities?
Saint_clark Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 The pathway to the first team is hardly blocked anyway. We have two midfielders out right now and Reed is getting game time, once Morgan leaves in the summer we're only one injury/suspension away from having Reed in the first team again.
doddisalegend Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Morgan will be gone in the summer I reckon Victor won't be far behind. Cork is a decent PL player, who we should keep hold of. It could well be Cork, Davis and Reed in midfield next season
Batman Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Morgan will be gone in the summer I reckon Victor won't be far behind. Cork is a decent PL player, who we should keep hold of. It could well be Cork, Davis and Reed in midfield next season Do you not think we could maybe get a new player in?
doddisalegend Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Do you not think we could maybe get a new player in? Maybe but why would we want to get rid of Cork?
Batman Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Maybe but why would we want to get rid of Cork? Maybe? If we lose Morgan we will spend to replace him. If we lose Morgan and victor. That would be guaranteed
John B Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 I dont really understand why people are particularly worried about Jack Cork he is a decent player but not outstanding If the Club think that the youngsters are better than him I support them if they want to buy a better player than him I support them too. Of course if they re-sign him I accept that too but I doubt he will be first choice . The club does know what it is doing so lets see what happens
david in sweden Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 when you see a good team selected and then turning in a great performance, people are always inclined to say - we don't need him, he'll never get a game.... until the squad is suddenly decimated by injuries, suspensions and maybe an eventual transfer out. Surely the last couple of months has proven that you can never have too many extra players. When we are forced to put 4 Academy lads on the bench, it's obvious that we are short of fit players, and we need everyone available. It's good to have promising youngsters, but they can't all become " the ideal replacement " overnight.
The Kraken Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Jack Cork , when fit, is at the moment a much better option than Harrison Reed, much better. When Cork comes back he will be above Reed in the standings, and rightly so. Reed has done really well but it is exceptionally early days for him, and Cork has much more to his all round game, by quite some distance.
Charlie Wayman Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Considering that central midfield is one of our more populous positions I cannot help but feel that it may be a case of Cork being surplus to requirements . Hopefully something can be sorted out to see him stay beyond this year. Far from it with Morgan and Victor always just a lunging leg away from a Red Card, we need Jack Cork's more disciplined approach to steady a rocking ship. Harrison Reed is a fantastic prospect but the ferocious way he goes about his business scares the willies out of me; refs will have a field day sorting him out over the years. That's what comes of having Morgan & Victor as role models.
igsey Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 From his games at the start of this season, Cork is the nearest thing we have to back up for Pellè. I don't think he's going anywhere this season.

SarniaSaint Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Since the squad depth is lacking expect we will sign him on a new contract..........may not be first choice but adds something to our depth...........Oh Yeah aint a bad player either and not a 35 year old has been:)

This But he isnt at the same level as Vic or Morgan, which begs the question, does HE want to sign a new contract ? As I can obviously understand why WE would want him to. The only question would be whether Reed is making noises about wanting more playing time, and so having to accomodate all of our excellent options. That could create a bit of a situation for Koeman, not necessarily the worst of situations granted.
the saint in winchester Posted 3 January, 2015 Posted 3 January, 2015 If we make Europe no one currently with the team is surplus to requirements. Exactly. I expect Jack's situation to be resolved this month, hopefully this week. And if we can get Toby and Ryan B on perm deals too, that is the way to go.
S-Clarke Posted 9 January, 2015 Posted 9 January, 2015 Jack back in training With a new contract offer ready to sign.
Winchester Red Posted 9 January, 2015 Posted 9 January, 2015 With a new contract offer ready to sign. Is that a statement or a question?
S-Clarke Posted 9 January, 2015 Posted 9 January, 2015 Is that a statement or a question? Confirmed by Komman today.
Bearsy Posted 9 January, 2015 Posted 9 January, 2015 what happened to clyne's new contract? I'm worried bout this bro, he has form for letting his contract wind down + f*cking off for cut-price fee

Greenridge Posted 9 January, 2015 Posted 9 January, 2015 Confirmed by Komman today. Good news. Might not be a first choice pick but adds depth to the squad and is more than capable.
Saint Charlie Posted 9 January, 2015 Posted 9 January, 2015 what happened to clyne's new contract? I'm worried bout this bro, he has form for letting his contract wind down + f*cking off for cut-price fee Unbelievable Jeff said he would sign one because he "seems honourable". He is nearly always right so hopefully will be again in this case. I would tend to agree with you. Will be very hard to keep him in the summer if he won't sign (I probably wouldn't if I were him).
saintnicoolas Posted 9 January, 2015 Posted 9 January, 2015 Jack being injured has surely hindered any idea of the player holding us to ransom in the transfer window, players don't tend to get signed when injured- lets hope he decides to sign.
Sour Mash Posted 9 January, 2015 Posted 9 January, 2015 what happened to clyne's new contract? I'm worried bout this bro, he has form for letting his contract wind down + f*cking off for cut-price fee Top class right backs with years of Premier League experience are at a premium. If Clyne leaves, I can't see it being for a cut-price fee.
ART Posted 9 January, 2015 Posted 9 January, 2015 Jack's new contract offer and that he's back in training is indeed magnificent news. Couldn't be happier for him as for me Jack Cork represents all that is good about Southampton Football Club.
krissyboy31 Posted 9 January, 2015 Posted 9 January, 2015 I just hope his frustration at not being offered a contract earlier hasn't caused him to come a decision to leave.
