Redslo Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 probably true, even if we sign him and he stays another 2 years.....what a player how old is he? a couple more years at saints then he could move to a genuine european top side This is the philosophy that bothers me as an American fan. Why should we target being a genuine European top side in the next two years so he can just stay here.
Redslo Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Toby has the intelligence lacked by Lovren! To be fair Lovren was playing without his head.
Turkish Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 To be fair Lovren was playing without his head. the lovren head gags never fail to make ROFL
Bucks Saint Posted 2 January, 2015 Posted 2 January, 2015 Sorry mate, meeting players in real life doesn't count. You can only claim credit if you posted about it on here or tweeted him and we also need you to provide evidence. Said a quick word to Toby (was very close to me) - just well played, great season, enjoy your evening! He was very decent and said thanks etc. Maya I left alone, likewise Matt, who looked like any other 19 year old out with a (presume) girlfriend! Clearly it was my calm, intelligent, good mannered approach that convinced him that we are a great bunch of fans and that this is a dreamland of a club to sign for. A whole level above the wild raging offensive ignorant fickle mongboard loving hoards that typify other major clubs in Europe. We stand alone. We march on. No thanks needed.

Unfortunately he already had preconceptions about our fans from when I had a chat with him. It was the afternoon after the Sheff Utd game and I'd just spent 5 hours travelling back with a raging hangover, dribbling over myself while asleep on the train.

I think I'm going to have to chuck the "lazy journalism" shout in here; us agreeing to pay Atletico £6.2m is the last of the issues in terms of getting this deal done, not really a relevant point at all.
Bearsy Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 Says we're gonna offer him an attractive wage cut. Reckon he will find that v.tempting
stevegrant Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 I think I'm going to have to chuck the "lazy journalism" shout in here; us agreeing to pay Atletico £6.2m is the last of the issues in terms of getting this deal done, not really a relevant point at all. Yeah, the idea that Atletico are "holding out" for £6.2m is a complete red herring, we'd wire the money today if that was the case. The commonly-held belief is that that fee is already agreed, but Atletico have a £1.5m get-out clause in the deal. It could be that they've seen how well he's done and think they can get a bit more for him (obviously not worthwhile if it's not more than £7.7m), which unfortunately is probably true. As ridiculous as it sounds, £75k a week shouldn't be that big a deal for us, especially for a player as good as him. The likelihood of him staying for the full duration of that contract would surely be pretty slim, as a club able to offer him regular Champions League football and £100k a week would probably come knocking eventually, so paying that sort of salary for a year or two could be seen as good business.

What are our top earners on currently?
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 What are our top earners on currently? Who is our top earner?
Window Cleaner Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 What are our top earners on currently? Less than Toby that's for sure. Anyway let's get this straight, I put up a piece from het nieuwsblad the other day, the transfer price is 8.5 million euros but Atletico can welsh on that by paying us 2 million euros. Toby's dad said that they were waiting and seeing what Atletico wanted to do before taking any more steps over a permanent transfer to Saints. So as Steve and the Belgian Journo say, nothing doing right now and everything else is Mail making up crap.
stevegrant Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 What are our top earners on currently? Alex Crook seemed to think Jose Fonte is our highest earner (current players - Osvaldo and Ramirez are both at least £20k more) on £45k basic. Not entirely sure I believe Fonte's our highest earner, but the figure's probably about right.
Window Cleaner Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 Who is our top earner? Surely Toby, everyone else is on less and as he gets a free pass on Cup games it might well be causing friction, he probably earns twice as much as anyone else on our payroll.

I guess we're still picking up some of their wages? I guess some footballer's contracts can be quite complicated anyway, in terms of win/goal/appearance bonuses, imagine rights, end of season performance bonuses etc?
Stu Man Do Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 Who is our top earner? Thought I read somewhere ... Probably here, that it's fonte on something between 45-50k. Not sure how reliable that is though!

I guess some footballer's contracts can be quite complicated anyway, in terms of win/goal/appearance bonuses, imagine rights, end of season performance bonuses etc? I think Inter are picking up all of Osvaldo's salary, same as Juventus did last season, in exchange for no loan fee being payable. Not sure with Ramirez, but I think Hull paid a fee for the season, so that'll offset anything we're still paying there. The bonuses situation will be interesting to monitor, especially if we qualify for Europe. Apparently those whose contracts were signed during Cortese's reign have VERY lucrative bonuses built in for high league positions (but not much for domestic cup success).

Golden Balls Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 Hopefully getting rid of Gaston and Osvaldo might free up the wages needed for Toby.

Yeah, i remember reading that the players got double wage bonuses every week we were in the top 2 in the championship. Must have cost us a fortune that season off set by promotion, i guess.

Apparently those whose contracts were signed during Cortese's reign have VERY lucrative bonuses built in for high league positions (but not much for domestic cup success). Is that just the case for those contracts signed under Cortese? Not too many of them left, guess Clyne, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Rodriguez that are still on "Cortese contracts", if there is any tangible difference.
Patrick Bateman Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 Hopefully it's not just a piece of lazy (easy?) journalism and if true, we should be busting the bank to get him to sign up.
Saint Charlie Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 No way he is on 75k a week at Atletico surely?
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 No way he is on 75k a week at Atletico surely? Sounds viable to me - they're a big club with good players.
James Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 Sounds viable to me - they're a big club with good players. With endless financial problems....
Saint Charlie Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 With endless financial problems.... Sounds viable to me - they're a big club with good players. And they don't earn nearly what Real and Barca do, plus they signed him from Ajax for a relatively small fee. Not likely to then put a backup defender on 75k a week. If he was then the likes of Costa or Koke were/are on 150k a week which they weren't/aren't.
Faz Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 If he's on £75kpw the last thing AM want us him to return. They're already up against their wage cap
saintds Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 If he's on £75k/week, I want to know why he's using such classy establishments as Sublime Tanning in Woolston for his beauty treatments? Saw him go in there yesterday afternoon, true story
Turkish Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 If he's on £75k/week, I want to know why he's using such classy establishments as Sublime Tanning in Woolston for his beauty treatments? Saw him go in there yesterday afternoon, true story To be fair he does have an impressive tan.
Smirking_Saint Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 Surely Toby, everyone else is on less and as he gets a free pass on Cup games it might well be causing friction, he probably earns twice as much as anyone else on our payroll. I wouldnt be so sure, there were some massive percentage wage rises included in contracts which came into effect sooner than the club expected which apparantly caused us issues getting rid of some of our league 1 deadwood that didnt want to go. I fully expect Gaston and certainly Osvaldo to be arpund tobys wage level. This isnt the championship, we wont be paying 40k to our top players, fonte will be on around 50-60k pretty easily id of said. Like Steve says, if our genuine ambition is top 6 then 75k a week shouldnt be something we would baulk at IMO. As without players at that level we wont stay there.
Smirking_Saint Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 Is that just the case for those contracts signed under Cortese? Not too many of them left, guess Clyne, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Rodriguez that are still on "Cortese contracts", if there is any tangible difference. A lot of those contracts were not legally binding, in fact we hired a full time solicitor to look through them all for a good 6 months apparantly, the source of that info is reasonably reliable but it was 2nd hand.

Heard similar. Another crack in Corteses little empire, no wonder he quit. Did he do his 'my word is my signature' line again?
Charlie Wayman Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 Can't blame him if he waits to see where we end up, he's easily good enough for a Champions League side. He played already in a Champions League Side! Nearly won it too.

bilbot79 Posted 5 January, 2015 Posted 5 January, 2015 Who is our top earner? Is Ramirez not maxed out on 50?
Redslo Posted 6 January, 2015 Posted 6 January, 2015 This thread sparked my curiosity so I summarized the information on our club's player salaries from Football Manager 2015 and posted it on my blog in case anyone was interested. http://www.redsloscf.blogspot.co.uk http://www.redsloscf.blogspot.com

Redslo Posted 6 January, 2015 Posted 6 January, 2015 Err, thanks....this is really useful information. LOL. It is useful, unless you assume Football Manager doesn't know what it is talking about. I assume they do not have exact figures but have some source of inside information. I could be wrong though but, as I stated in the post, in the past their total salary figure for the team as a whole was consistent with the information publically revealed by the club.

Redslo Posted 6 January, 2015 Posted 6 January, 2015 You do know football manager is a game dont you? Yes. But it is a thoroughly researched game that tries to use real information whenever possible. I would trust them over random "journalists" for example who are likely to be repeating information leaked to them by an agent or a club with an agenda. We could always ask the researcher? After all he is a poster on here. I sort of assume that MLG reads these boards and comments when he wants to or is allowed to by his contract so I generally don't bother to ask him questions. But if he wants to tell us how he (or FM as a whole) comes up with their salary information I would be happy to find out.

How do you think Football Manager gets their information?
Smirking_Saint Posted 6 January, 2015 Posted 6 January, 2015 Not legally binding in what way? I dont know, whether it was to 'keep' the players signed or otherwise, either way it sounds reasonably serious
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 6 January, 2015 Posted 6 January, 2015 With endless financial problems.... Why do you think they have financial problems? Don't presume that means they don't pay their players much. Last season they paid David Villa 125k a week. Koke signed a deal worth 90k a week. Neither of those pieces of information mean Toby is on 75k a week there - but it does show that they can pay a lot in wages and that 75k isn't exactly a reach for them.
benjii Posted 6 January, 2015 Posted 6 January, 2015 If Toby actually wants to join then there's no point Atletico messing around. They can't force him to sign for someone else and who is going to offer silly money if it's public knowledge that they agreed a circa 7million fee with us?
Redslo Posted 6 January, 2015 Posted 6 January, 2015 How do you think Football Manager gets their information? I don't know. I suspect they have a variety of sources and their information for different players and clubs varies in its reliability.
Bearsy Posted 6 January, 2015 Posted 6 January, 2015 MLG's wage stats are 100% accurate. I can back him up on this. He doesn't make it up.
Saint_Ash Posted 6 January, 2015 Posted 6 January, 2015 60% of MLG's stats are correct 100% of the time.
Whitey Grandad Posted 6 January, 2015 Posted 6 January, 2015 60% of MLG's stats are correct 100% of the time. Oh, I thought it was 100% were correct 60% of the time?
