Crazy Diamond Posted 31 December, 2014 Share Posted 31 December, 2014 So, new year tomorrow, who's going to be dieting? We seem to have a thread on it every year... I for one shall be, and my diet of choice is the Dukan diet. I work with professional athletes and was inspired last year to give the Dukan diet a proper go, having flirted with it a bit for a while. Between May and July 2014 I lost getting on for a stone and a half by sticking very strictly to it. Medically speaking, I am a good weight, but working with athletes every day made me a bit more self-conscious than normal... Think about stick-thin divers and gymnasts. The problem? Having achieved my target weight and feeling a hell of a lot better about myself, I then spent ten days on a mad project away from home with silly hours and had little or no control over what I was eating. I then slipped back into bad habits and the weight came back. I now want to get rid of a stone, maybe more, and generally get fitter. If you're disciplined enough and can get over the boredom of no carbs (breakfast is special porridge, tuna for lunch, chicken for dinner), then the Dukan is a good diet and I think well worth the fiver or so that the book cost. Anyone else? NYE will be my last blow out meal for quite some time...
whelk Posted 31 December, 2014 Share Posted 31 December, 2014 Diet's are so faddy. We understand nutrition so it so easy to stay in shape theoretically by balanced diet, avoiding over doing junk food and sugary cr ap, portion control and a bit of exercise. Doesn't sell books though! And often people who come off their diets go back to a higher weight than previous. So said bloke (McKenna)on radio anyway who was also selling a book but talking about emotions of eating. Made a bit of sense although I may have been being hypnotised to agree. Totally agree..... but, the 'fads' can help in that its the psychology of change. The key to sticking with these things is making a life change, so the nutrition, portion control and exercise become routine/the norm. For some the fad diet is just a way of making you feel good about the life change because its 'different' to what you have been used to. For me the diet has been the hardest to change - gave up the cigs 12 months ago, got back on the bike and now cycle 400-600km a month and have lost 7kg .... but still need to lose 18 more to get back to 'normal' - but cutting out the bad stuff has been more tricky. Did a detailed calorie count for a while and even just a few glasses of wine and a couple of beers a week, makes a huge difference to the total weekly intake... foods high in sugar and carbs also more tricky to give up as v tasty ;-)

View From The Top Posted 31 December, 2014 Share Posted 31 December, 2014 I went from 15st 8lb to 13st this year. I cut out beer and ice cream only and cycled 9000km but rode them hard. I intend to lose another 6lb or so and then I'll be just about right for the mountains I'm riding up this coming summer.
Turkish Posted 31 December, 2014 Share Posted 31 December, 2014 My routine and diet will continue as it always has. I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

Patrick Bateman Posted 3 January, 2015 Share Posted 3 January, 2015 I was running every evening and lost nearly 2 stone last summer , Then I discovered a love of spiced rum ! I am now 4lbs heaver than when I started :-( Drying out and running again now There is nothing that comes close to running and weight loss. In 2009, I ran 5 times a week, ate a cooked breakfast at work, had a meal at work, had a meal at home and still lost 3 stone in about 4/5 months. I was only running 5-10km each time, but it made a huge difference. I don't have that diet any more as I eat more healthily, but thanks to commuting more (working in London) and not running, that 3 stone is back on. Golden Balls Posted 5 January, 2015 Share Posted 5 January, 2015 Just don't snack on crap. If you feel the urge to have a chocolate bar, have a glass of water or an apple. That'll do ya.

I went from 16 stone to 13 and half a few years back, through cycling. I am now 15 stone and my aim is 13 stone by the end of May.
