Going back a bit further....didn't we get Hoddle sacked after winning 3-1 at Spurs...and back further still, didn't Matty get Ron Atkinson sacked?

He's bald he's fat he's gonna get the sack Atkinson Atkinson

....... and the next day he duly did.

Pulis to WBA???

WBA are the kings of total humiliation, whenever they beat a team the opposition chairman seem to think thats the last straw and sack the manager. Im not sure on the figures, but its got to be double figures for them.

Regards to the next manager out the door, could be AI but he is more of a coach there, so might be Pearson.

Isnt this 'stigma' just another case of people thinking it's unique to saints because their focus is saints? We're hardly likely to remember the managers sacked after losing to, say, villa, are we?

A fair point. Would be interesting to see statistics on which clubs are more likely to provoke a sacking.

Where's MLG when you need him....?

100% this.

Just pointless confirmation bias.

It's not just the opposition you lose to that can be the last nail in the coffin. Managers arguably get sacked ahead of big games in hope that it will jolt a reaction (or even engineer a honeymoon effect). Palace have QPR next in a potential relegation showdown which may in small part explain the timing. Norwich did something similar last season when they got rid of Hughton before the Fulham game (admittedly they had just lost to WBA which was a low in itself).

Wild guess here, but I'm guessing the so-called smaller clubs are more likely to provoke a sacking.

I mean, being sacked for failing to win at Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge must be a bit unusual....unless your name is Nigel Adkins....

Didn't Di Matteo (or whoever was Chelsea manager at the time) get sacked after we came back from 2-0 down to get a 2-2 at Stamford Bridge?

West Brom, Irvine has already said he fears for his job, sounds like he's a gonner.

Sounds safe. It's when they start saying that they have nothing to worry about and have the chairman's backing etc that you know they'll be gone soon.

Adkins was sacked after that game. I can't remember what happened to RDM but I don't recall both managers being sacked after the same game.

Pulis technically got the chop after playing us on the last day in 2013 I think. It was more of a long term thing from the whole season really, that was a 1-1 draw.

Does seem to be an odd stigma where losing to Saints is the last straw.

Warnock was an odd appointment anyway, will be interesting to see who they get in instead. The one man they would want in there surely wouldn't go back, would he?

I don't think it was the stigma of losing to Saints. It was probably the stigma of Palace being so bad defensively that they made Mane look like he might just have the potential to be a Premier League player.
