doddisalegend Posted 23 December, 2014 Posted 23 December, 2014 Yes. How long will he be sent home for not meeting Saints high standards expected of our players? I sincerely hope that he will prove a good signing, but we don't want a prolongation of an Osvaldo situation. Well lets give the bloke a chance first shall we? if he can't get his act together no problem that's the advantage of loans.
Crazy Diamond Posted 23 December, 2014 Posted 23 December, 2014 It's nice to hear we're acting so quickly. Judgement on the guy ought to be reserved until he's actually played a few matches...
Goatboy Posted 23 December, 2014 Posted 23 December, 2014 Alpine's going to be confused ....Saints announcing a player signing BEFORE the start of a transfer window
doggface Posted 23 December, 2014 Posted 23 December, 2014 Only the very best wingers are consistent. Very experienced player, quick, bit of a loose cannon by the sounds of it. Makes total sense as a loan and we will take it from there. Glad to have him on the bus.
VectisSaint Posted 23 December, 2014 Posted 23 December, 2014 Also, his name sounds a little like "al jazeera". That's got to go against him before he kicks a ball for us. It worries me that the last 3 letters of his name are an anagram of "Ali". Does he come recommended by his cousin? He may be liked if he claps the supporters in all four corners of the ground, even if he is a waste of space.
Saint-Armstrong Posted 23 December, 2014 Posted 23 December, 2014 @ELJERO11ELIA: Today I signed for @SouthamptonFC ! I can't wait for my presentation on the 28th Dec at the stadium! Thankyou for the warm welcome! #Saints
Wiggles31 Posted 23 December, 2014 Posted 23 December, 2014 Very happy. We need more attacking options and the guy clearly has tones of ability. Feel that Koeman is the sort of manager that can give sort a players head out. Fingers crossed he can pull it off. It's never a bad thing signing a international and it's certainly not a bad thing signing a Dutch one.
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 23 December, 2014 Author Posted 23 December, 2014 It's silly season.... Someone should start a rumours thread Sorry, what were you saying??? lol
angelman Posted 23 December, 2014 Posted 23 December, 2014 Will be interesting to see what happens with Mané when he comes back from ACN.
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 23 December, 2014 Posted 23 December, 2014 Even with him not living up to his potential he has been decent enough. Hopefully he will find his feet here.
redder freak Posted 23 December, 2014 Posted 23 December, 2014 A bit hasty. Not like the Saints I'm used to. Usually we don't confirm signings until the transfer window is just about to close. This is a pleasant change. At least he should be available to play in January. And Koeman speaks his language. Hopefully in more ways than one.
petts Posted 23 December, 2014 Posted 23 December, 2014 Only the very best wingers are consistent. Very experienced player, quick, bit of a loose cannon by the sounds of it. Makes total sense as a loan and we will take it from there. Glad to have him on the bus. Yeah, but don't let him behind the wheel
ART Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Seems he's a cross between Balotelli, Osvaldo and Anelka. A lot of dressing room and off field troubles. He's homophobic, supports racist groups and doesn't mix well with team colleagues. Hence 6 clubs in 10 years. I thought we did our homework on their character and background before we sign players?
SarniaSaint Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Not to sure where the loose cannon comes from........a tat gone wrong and driving offense....mmmmmmmm. Hope he works out and only a loan.....let's wait and see.
SNSUN Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Reading about him, he's played under Steve McClaren, his career eerily mirrors Stoke's Marko Arnautovič, and he has his own clothing brand BALR. https://www.balr.com/about
ART Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Same height as Mané and plays mostly left wing. Hardly a stand in for JRod as striker
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 AReading about him, he's played under Steve McClaren, his career eerily mirrors Stoke's Marko Arnautovič, and he has his own clothing brand BALR. https://www.balr.com/about I may be wrong, in which case I apologise, but weren't they in a car crash together? Or have I gotten people mixed up?
Ultimatt Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Signed to fit into our system as the LW player that takes the defence on. We'll now have the depth to go 4-4-2 if Koeman wants to. - - - - - Pelle/Long/Jrod - - - - - Mane/Elia - - - - - - - - Tadic/JWP - - - Morgan/Vic/Davis/Cork - - - I'd prefer Tadic on the left but that's not happening. I think Long prefers playing up front so better for him. Conventional 4-3-3 in tough games with all 3 of Morgan/Vic/Davis but we can play a more attacking lineup at home.
DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Hope his clothing range doesn't give us an a clue to the type of player he is ? "Blame referee" "Good players aren't cheap, cheap players aren't good" ( what are loan players then ??) Anyhoo welcome aboard nice to have another attacking option
Ultimatt Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 A I may be wrong, in which case I apologise, but weren't they in a car crash together? Or have I gotten people mixed up? No car crash. They were just both caught speeding multiple times. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4907788/Werder-Bremen-ban-Marko-Arnautovic-and-Eljero-Elia-for-speeding.html
scotty Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Yeah, but don't let him behind the wheel Very good.
Bearsy Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 he has his own clothing brand BALR. https://www.balr.com/about We're in big trouble if he starts listening to you mugs!
Window Cleaner Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Reading about him, he's played under Steve McClaren, his career eerily mirrors Stoke's Marko Arnautovič, and he has his own clothing brand BALR. https://www.balr.com/about What does BALR stand for...Basically a load of rubbish ?
sadoldgit Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Judging by the amount of slagging off he has received by people who have not seen him play I am looking forward to him being a big success for us.
Patrick Bateman Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 We're in big trouble if he starts listening to you mugs! Oh I don't know, maybe he could listen to a forum member every different match and we'll see who does the best with him?
SaintRobbie Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Looks a good signing to replace Mane at the Africa Cup o' Nations. Question will be whether Koeman can tame him and whether he's prepared to fight for a place (and of course not fight Fonte!) The new Oswaldo? I doubt it... international pedigree, speed and experience. A good signing and statement of intent methinks. Regardless, we now have an impact sub (be it Tadic, Mane or Elia)..... but we still need a clinical striker this January.
sotonist Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 We're in big trouble if he starts listening to you mugs! LISTEN TO YOUR FANS (then tell them "Go **** your self") I like his Zippy cap, but i'm waiting for the George and Bungle companion caps before I commit. Not sure about the Bergkamp 69 shirt.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 No car crash. Saint Billy Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Question will be whether Koeman can tame him That is my concern. Our these type of characters ever tamable?.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 That is my concern. Our these type of characters ever tamable?. No, but it isn't a question of whether you can tame a character like that, it's a question of whether you can get the most out of them on the field. You can't change a person from football training. You can only try and hope that they enjoy their football to make a contribution that doesn't come at the expense of other elements of management around team spirit and togetherness. It's 50/50 whether or not it happens but in football talent always gives you another chance. Always.
Saint Charlie Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 That is my concern. Our these type of characters ever tamable?. Doesn't seem *that* much of a bad boy? If he plays well and is enjoying his football then I'm sure he will be fine.

Saint Fan CaM Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Pretty positive about this to be fair - low risk and everything to be gained for both player and club. I guess that if things look really bad for him we can cancel the loan and send him back pronto? If his Utube vid is anything to go by, he could be just the type of tricky fast paced attacker we're crying out for.
funkymojo44 Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Seems he's a cross between Balotelli, Osvaldo and Anelka. A lot of dressing room and off field troubles. He's homophobic, supports racist groups and doesn't mix well with team colleagues. Hence 6 clubs in 10 years. I thought we did our homework on their character and background before we sign players? Is any of this substantiated, because there doesn't seem to be much online about it?

Like the fact while he prefers to come in on his right foot, his pace means he can go the other way too which is what would make mane more productive

Wiggles31 Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Footballer caught speeding. Shock horror. No where near the controversy off the pitch of Osvaldo looking at his history.
Dellman Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 He's going to need everyone's backing because once the press give a dog a bad name, and they've already done that. come on my boy, just you show us you're a true Saint!
paulie Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Im Dutch and have seen him played a lot of times, he has a lot of potential but but he has to keep his head on straight. I think RK can keep him in line and he can be a very good signing. But he had problems with driving in the right lane, let's hope he can drive in the left lane.
OldNick Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 They weren't having a kick about in the car park and Mayuka tried to pass to him I assume
Saint Martini Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Is he training with us straight away? I know he can only be registered with us the 3rd of January but that doesn't stop us from having him train with the team straight away. If so it would increase the possibility of him playing for us against Ipswich.
Saint Billy Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 That is my concern. Our these type of characters ever tamable?. Whoops, apologies for the spelling, too much xmas libation!
Whitey Grandad Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Is he training with us straight away? I know he can only be registered with us the 3rd of January but that doesn't stop us from having him train with the team straight away. If so it would increase the possibility of him playing for us against Ipswich. Good point.
Sour Mash Posted 24 December, 2014 Posted 24 December, 2014 Good point. I thought that the club had stated that he'd be formally signed on the 3rd of Jan. That's the Saturday before the Ipswich game, I'm not sure if the paperwork can be sorted in time for him to play the next day, possibly. I'd assume he'll be training with the squad from after Friday's game, would make sense.

Can you actually substantiate any of this?
