St Chalet Posted 20 December, 2014 Posted 20 December, 2014 After the unmitigated success of 3-5-2 it will be interesting to see what Koeman does. Personally I think he'd have tried it again but for the Fonte suspension, maybe it will be brought out against Chelsea on the 28th but think we will see our normal 4-3-3 Forster Clyne Alderweireld Yoshida Bertrand Wanyama Schneiderlin Davis Long Pelle Tadic Bench = Davis, Targett, Gardos, Reed, JWP, Isgrove, Mane

Joe Ledley was the latest Palace star to moan about the poor condition of the playing surface following a similar complaint from James McArthur, while manager Neil Warnock has admitted that work on the pitch “can’t come soon enough for the players”. The turf was left badly cut up after last weekend’s game with Stoke and the club revealed today that ground work will take place after their Boxing Day clash with Southampton. “It is like treading on sand at the moment,” said Warnock. trousers Posted 20 December, 2014 Posted 20 December, 2014 Ah no, JWP instead of Tadic for me. Agree with this. Tadic a quality option to have on the bench and JWP should give us some good aerial ball options given the state of the Palace pitch.
Window Cleaner Posted 20 December, 2014 Posted 20 December, 2014 Agree with this. Tadic a quality option to have on the bench and JWP should give us some good aerial ball options given the state of the Palace pitch. Tadic has done nothing positive of late, let him rest up a while longer, got the impression from today's game that in fact he slows us down.

WealdSaint Posted 20 December, 2014 Posted 20 December, 2014 I'd like to give Reed one more game to keep Wanyama sharp.
Saint_clark Posted 20 December, 2014 Posted 20 December, 2014 Do you mean that in an ironic way. Surely a good pitch will favour us. It would indeed. But they're relaying it AFTER the game against us.
Roger Posted 20 December, 2014 Posted 20 December, 2014 Great options to have think we need Gallagher on the bench good option.

Saint Garrett Posted 20 December, 2014 Posted 20 December, 2014 Forster Clyne Fonte Alderweireld Bertrand Reed Schneiderlin Davis JWP Pelle Long
Window Cleaner Posted 20 December, 2014 Posted 20 December, 2014 (edited) Forster Clyne Fonte Alderweireld Bertrand Reed Schneiderlin Davis JWP Pelle Long doh, José is on 5 yellows, it will be Maya and Toby. Wouldn't mind seeing that midfield though. NB don't think we've ever had so many pre-January 5 card suspensions, José is the 4th with Clyne and Mané still having 2 games to get there. Toadhall Saint Posted 20 December, 2014 Posted 20 December, 2014 Not in the country but not an easy task but very doable.
Window Cleaner Posted 20 December, 2014 Posted 20 December, 2014 Palarse are in dire straights though, won't be an easy game.
Dark Munster Posted 20 December, 2014 Posted 20 December, 2014 With Fonte out the back 4 pick themselves. With Morgan and Big Vic back I'd keep Reed in, and rest Davis for the Chelski match, especially as he has just come back from injury. Worried a full match for Long and Pelle would leave both knackered for Chelski: it would be nice to be able to pull one or both off after about 60 minutes.
Wiggles31 Posted 20 December, 2014 Posted 20 December, 2014 Win this and we could be back to 4th. Schneiderlin and Wanyama back in and Tadic most likely. Would like to see two forwards playing again but he might go back to our usual formation. Bit of a blow Fonte missing (am I right?) but Yoshida is good enough to play with Toby. No easy game this. Palace are a difficult team away from home but we are more than good enough for a win and clean sheet. 1-0 win for me. COYR! Happy Christmas SWF's!!

trousers Posted 21 December, 2014 Posted 21 December, 2014 In Fonte's absence, who'll be captain for this? Either Schneiderlin, Steve Davis or Alderweireld I guess. Toby would be my choice.

farawaysaint Posted 21 December, 2014 Posted 21 December, 2014 PLOP! I thought you were on build up thread suspension until we get a run of wins together again?
Andy Durman Posted 21 December, 2014 Posted 21 December, 2014 Schneiderlin will be Captain. Reed should keep his place. Wanyama, Tadic, Mane on bench, along with Taggart and Gape Squad rotation Fresh for Chelsea who we will beat.
Coxford_lou Posted 21 December, 2014 Posted 21 December, 2014 In Fonte's absence, who'll be captain for this? Either Schneiderlin, Steve Davis or Alderweireld I guess. Toby would be my choice. I'd put Pelle as captain - he is very vocal on the pitch, and eveyone looks to him....
DuncanRG Posted 21 December, 2014 Posted 21 December, 2014 In Fonte's absence, who'll be captain for this? Either Schneiderlin, Steve Davis or Alderweireld I guess. Toby would be my choice. Davis is vice captain
gr00031 Posted 21 December, 2014 Posted 21 December, 2014 This will be the second time I'm going to palace this season (happened to go with a friend to Palace v Sunderland earlier in the year (free ticket)). Good atmosphere there, hoping for another boxing day win in the same style as what happened last year at Cardiff
sandwichsaint Posted 21 December, 2014 Posted 21 December, 2014 This will be the second time I'm going to palace this season (happened to go with a friend to Palace v Sunderland earlier in the year (free ticket)). Good atmosphere there, hoping for another boxing day win in the same style as what happened last year at Cardiff Take that all day, we took Cardiff to pieces first 20 minutes last year , a very un-Saints-like boxing day performance. Mind you I did see us win at Palace on Boxing Day a few years back, 1-0 with a rare Matt Oakley goal, and a very good one too.
hutch Posted 21 December, 2014 Posted 21 December, 2014 And who could forget Guly the goal machine at SMS 3 years ago.

Plastic Posted 21 December, 2014 Posted 21 December, 2014 This one really is a must win imo. A win could very well put us back in 4th, a loss and we could potentially drop to 8th.
lickierambert Posted 21 December, 2014 Posted 21 December, 2014 Our games against Palace have sort of summed up where we've been over the last 5 or 6 years. Remember a listless 4-1 defeat on the opening day one year and a 3-0 defeat with the youngsters in 2008-9. Then a dominant double 2-0 in the championship promotion season and then a Lallana/Lambert/Rodriguez inspired double last year
sandwichsaint Posted 21 December, 2014 Posted 21 December, 2014 PEDANT ALERT! 1-1 draw. 1997. Oops, medium term memory loss alert.
eelpie Posted 22 December, 2014 Posted 22 December, 2014 Toby is on loan and anyway would be Davis hands down for me. If not Davis, surely Schneiderlin
Bearsy Posted 22 December, 2014 Posted 22 December, 2014 Biggest mismatch at the Palace since Charles & Diana. Palace 0-4 Saints
itchen_dan Posted 22 December, 2014 Posted 22 December, 2014 (edited) The echo say that Gardos is available after serving his 1 match suspension for the red card against Sheff Utd? I thought it was 3 game ban, no? Anyway, if true, could keep the back 3 and "go again" Forster Gardos Alderweireld Yoshida Clyne JWP Wanyama Schneiderlin Bertrand Pellé Long Edited 22 December, 2014 by itchen_dan

Saint Garrett Posted 22 December, 2014 Posted 22 December, 2014 Whoops! I meant to put Yoshida in. I wouldn't trust Gardos. A great performance vs Arsenal but very poor vs Stoke and Sheff Utd

Batman Posted 22 December, 2014 Posted 22 December, 2014 I dont think we will go to a back 3 against palace
Saint-Armstrong Posted 22 December, 2014 Posted 22 December, 2014 I dont think we will go to a back 3 against palace I was toying with the idea myself, I don't particularly want Gardos staying in but the reason I went with it is because I think Koeman may keep Long and Pellè as a duo. Of course he could just return to the 3 and play Long on the wing.

Of course he could just return to the 3 and play Long on the wing. which what I think he will do Palace struggle to score. we need to get back to winning ways (games on the bounce) and get better players in our team I think that will mean Tadic/Long/Pelle as a front 3 with 3 of Vic/Morgan/davis in the middle of the park
Saint_clark Posted 22 December, 2014 Posted 22 December, 2014 Pretty obvious it'll be Wanyama and Morgan in for Fonte and Reed with a return to our usual formation. I'd also like to see one of Long or Davis rested for the Chelsea game if possible.

I thought it was 3 game ban, no? Gardos has finished his one match suspension and is available on Boxing Day. 2 yellow cards - 1 match Denying obvious goal scoring opportunity - 1 match Offensive/insulting/abusive language - 2 matches Serious foul play/violent conduct - 3 matches http://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/suspensions Edited 23 December, 2014 by Matthew Le God
Dark Munster Posted 23 December, 2014 Posted 23 December, 2014 You would put JWP in before Davis? Please explain that one. Squad rotation? Davis is coming off an injury, so 2 matches in 3 days may be too much for him.
Shroppie Posted 23 December, 2014 Posted 23 December, 2014 I would certainly have Davis if fit. The midfield doesn't click in the same way without him. Wouldn't be surprised to see either Wanyama or Morgan kept fresh for Chelsea. We can rotate with Reed and Ward-Prowse solid options.
sussexsaint Posted 23 December, 2014 Posted 23 December, 2014 Yes I need my 'lookers' not my 'seers' you have Seers ? I'd sack them mate - so far their predictions of doom have been quite some way off
