A few weeks back it was "We lost, but we're still second in the league." Then it was, "We lost, but we're still third in the league." Then it was, "We lost, but we're still fourth in the league." and now it's ""We lost, but we're still fifth in the league." What's your cut off? You don't need to be an Oxbridge doctoral candidate in maths to see the pattern. We're on the slide, and our closest rivals are closing the gap. We're fifth on goal difference alone. A month ago people were talking about how we had a 12-point lead over Spurs and Liverpool, which they'd find very hard to close. Well, Spurs are now just two points behind us, and Liverpool are only five, with more than half the season left to play. I'm no doom and gloom merchant – still think Europa League is doable – but this is getting really boring. Am I the only one who thinks so? P.S. Do we have a team for Saturday?

Saint_Tony Posted 17 December, 2014 Posted 17 December, 2014 Only for another week. It's just a case of people holding on to false hope. It's understandable, but it's far too early in the season. The fact we seem to be incapable of taking points off of the bigger sides means we're playing with a serious points handicap. With Chelsea twice, Arsenal and Man Utd to come, things aren't going to get any easier. I predicted this a few weeks back and got ridiculed for suggesting top half would be an incredible achievement for this squad. We simply don't have enough striking options to be anything more than a midtable side. Take the Sunderland game out of the equation, (when all 8 goals were pretty sloppy, we didn't have to try much to score,) and we haven't scored too many. Right now, we just have to hope the players have enough belief to turn things around. But forget league positions, everything just fell right for us, but our luck has well and truly ran out.

I've pencilled in mid-Feb to ditch the optimism and join in the doom and gloom.

The main times people quote our league position is when utter helmets start grizzling like Saints have never lost a few games before, and we have a few utter *****s talking about Koeman's position. And, it seems to upset you, but we are fifth, which is great, as would sixth, or seventh be great. Even eighth is good. I recommend you get used to it, because that's where we were always headed.

I'd rather read/hear something constructive. But its not trotted out after a defeat. Try reading what CB Fry posted, its used when utter helmets are saying our season is over, we are useless, etc etc
