Batman Posted 16 December, 2014 Share Posted 16 December, 2014 This showed what cup football is. It is not always about the level They had the best chances we were not good enough, we did not create enough in the last few games, we have changed too many people too often We have played people who are not fresh You cant do that in this country Sheff united had unbelievable spirit you can ask after, WHY? it is difficult to answer They had great spirit. We needed to show our qualities we were not good enough in our positions and the game turned into a battle. That suited them more we had great support today. it is difficult at the moment. Another defeat on the cards we have had a lot of problems physically, we have missed so many players with so many changes all the time The squad is not as deep as we would like. we knew that though. we just did not expect the injury and suspensions like this at once saturday will be another problem with Morgan and victor out. we took that risk before the game to try and win we didnt we carry on

suewhistle Posted 16 December, 2014 Share Posted 16 December, 2014 Pretty fair assessment. I don't know who the people questioning team selection would want to play given the enforced lack of choice. The gamble of playing Morgan and Victor was one most of the moaners would have wanted, but we can now see why managers are reluctant to play certain players on certain occasions.. richard Posted 16 December, 2014 Share Posted 16 December, 2014 Surely his lack of game time since the Villa game shows that he isn't good enough yet? Agreed, and it's exciting waiting to see when / if he will make the grade. I think that youth development tends to happen in fits and starts rather than suddenly a player is good enough and they play all the time. Ward Prowse was in and out of the team for a while. Same with Chambers. I wouldn't be surprised to see Harrison get a run of games and then have a break for a while too.

These teams are battling for everything that can get and he should know that and react accordingly. Brilliant. Sort this ****ing mess out.

Only because Les said he was the best player ever to come out of our academy. Now what prompted him to say that I've no idea but when you've got a lad who's supposed to be better than Bale, AOC,Walcott and many other then most would like to know exactly why at nigh on 20 he's not considered good enough to get any game time whatsoever. S-Clarke Posted 17 December, 2014 Share Posted 17 December, 2014 The obsession with Harrison Reed on this forum is hilarious. It's just a natural response I guess. A player I've heard is decent, sitting on the bench. We're losing games. That must mean he can make a difference. Player injured for long time, was decent but not amazing....suddenly becomes amazing and the solution to all of our problems during his recovery. Same can be said for Gaston. Had zero impact here, we shifted him to hull, where he continues to have zero impact - yet people are calling for his return as we miss his creativity or something, not that I've ever seen that particular trait in his game. Good points S. Clarke. MY point would be we have seen 60 or so appearances from a young academy player like JWP and apart from some reasonable imitations of Gerard and Beckham with dead ball delivery there has been very little else from him as a player pushed forward; as an attacking midfielder and certainly not as a DM. Therefore, why not throw Harry Reed in against the Toffees with Vic and Morgan missing. What do we have to lose?

James has really good technique, but....he struggles to impose himself, that's his main issue. He doesn't seem capable of dominating a midfielder and winning the battle. If we're on the front foot and he's attacking in space, then he looks good as he's terrifically technically gifted....but like yesterday, hustle and bustle of a L1 midfield - he just couldn't exert himself against it. He's still young obviously, got a lot of maturing to do....but he needs to do more other than sideways and backwards, he needs to start being that imposing figure his confidence suggests he can be. To boot you put your regular LB at LM and a kiddy at LB, you then realise that the kiddy isn't getting the job done at HT so you take him off, play your regular LB at LB and put a no hoper at LM. Then when you need to take one of your CMs off because the other has been booked you can't because you've wasted your sub possibilities on some half baked schema that dawned on you whilst you were having a crap or something. Koeman was criticised for some of his decisions in Spain, I can see why now. I mean when Victor got booked the game was up for him, no game on Saturday, so take Morgan off and leave Toby in MF with Victor, nope he leaves Morgan on to get booked and takes Victor off. I didn't say he's expected to dominate midfield outright, but you'd expect to see by now - after 60 games - slightly more presence in that area. I like James, don't get me wrong, terrific talent and will only get better - but he doesn't quite influence enough for me just yet.
