Sheff Utd 1-0 Saints Post match carnage.

Just in the car home. Embarrassing and it's going to be a long journey back. Real problems with our attacking play and we need to pick up a point soon or this run will continue.

Teams will know that we wont create a great deal if they defend in numbers. We ARE now prone to gifting stupid goals away.

Utter drivel. Embarrassed. Serious questions need to be asked of Koeman for the first time after that.

No they don't. It's now blindingly obvious we don't have the squad depth and when I say depth, I mean depth in quality, not just quantity.

3, 4 or 5 players in January would really help with both keeping us where we are in the league and a run in the FA Cup. We haven't become a bad team over night, but without our first 11 firing on all cylinders, we are short on quality to bring on to make a difference.

I rarely agree with him but he has as much right to post as you and I have. Don't like his posts, block him.

If you were talking about just about any other poster I would, of course, agree with you. How could I not agree, this is a forum for posting opinions. This idiot posts the same drivel over and over again in a transparent attempt to annoy. He adds nothing constructive to any discussion.

Absolutely abysmal. Yes we had a few injuries but there was still enough quality in that team to beat a league 1 team, we just played absolutely ****. Koeman does need to take his share of the blame, the last 30 minutes were nothing but long balls up top, Christ we looked like West Ham ffs.

Not sure we're going to find that many decent players that will be able/prepared to leave their clubs mid-season. I'll be happy if we get 1 or 2.

I tried to stream it - luckily for me it was so bad it wasn't worth watching but from what little I could see the final result was already in full view.

Perhaps the performance will be better Saturday but you have to bear in mind that Vic and Morgan are unavailable, alongside Gardoes, probably Davies, definitely Cork and Forster for all his saves seems to have a goal-causin g error in him every game - add into the mix Mayuka, Mané and Isgrove don't appear to be having an effect on the wing and Tadic's form has fallen off dramatically and then also consider Pelle is our only goal-threat, because Long plays scores a goal every ten games.

I don't see any optimism at the moment - hopefully Reed might finally get some game time.

Everton are tough and they won't take any prisoners. We are in for a very, very tough Christmas.

We may well lose. I just want to see, expect to see, a decent performance against Everton. There was a comment on the Five Live Extra commentary that Southampton just didn't put in a performance for the 5,000 (they said) that had made the long journey. The team owes them a performance.

Thing that made me laugh in the Adam Blackmore interview was Koeman saying there was a booking for Morgan and for Schneiderlin

Just have to laugh at the moment.

We have out injured:

Jayrod

Cork

Hesketh

Davis/Tadic ?

Banned Next Game:

Wanyama

Schneiderlin

Gardos

Off the Boil:

Clyne

Bertrand

JWP

Tadic

Long

Forster (thats my opinion)

Everything points to us needing some creative players in Jan.

Tonight was our big chance of winning something and we blew it. What happens on sat isn't vital.

Koeman was happy to take the plaudits when we were playing out of our skins, now he has to take the flak and take a long, hard look at some players. I do hope he is not the sort of Manager who has "favourites".

Mane has played half a dozen games in succession where he has been the worst player on the pitch for us. Why is he still in the 1st 11? If anything, he has contributed to the bad form of others as he pulls our own players out of position and then they get caught when he loses the ball - plus he gives away stupid fouls.

I didn't see any of the game, but Schneiderlin and JWP deserve a bit of a break as they have just come back from injury and that was not the sort of game you can ease yourself back in to, and judging from the live feed on BBC there were some heavy challenges flying in from both side all game.

Yes, we know the u21's and academy players aren't as good as the first team - when ON FORM! - but several of the first team AREN'T on form, so give some others a chance. They should AT LEAST be on the bench! It seems totally unprofessional to me to not name a full bench. Stick a youth team player on if you have to, just for the experience. Remember Danny Wallace and Reuben Agboola getting their chances against Man Utd? (well alot of you probably won't because you aren't as old as me haha). The U21's played the previous night but he could easily have called 2 or 3 of them up to Sheffield straight after the game. I don't believe for one second that they wouldn't have been fit enough to sit on the bench and maybe play 20-30 minutes! What on earth does Seager or Rowe have to do to get a chance - especially Seager who has ALWAYS created chances for himself (and others). Looking at the next 4 games, 4 points would be a bonus!

No, tonight was our big chance at having a less than 25% chance of winning something. It was a quarter final, nothing else. There were 7 other teams all trying to win this competition.

I seem to remember RK playing it down when we were 2nd??? Not sure what you mean about taking the plaudits???

I warned there would be major meltdown if we lost tonight. We seriously lack squad depth, the lack of goals is a major worry. When Pelle's not firing we have no real goal threat. We really do need a winter break as the games are coming thick and fast. I honestly can't see us winning for a couple of months. We need to start focussing on next season, this one is over.

Ironically January is such a long Time away. I think we have another at least three league games before the window opens then you have to actually get the players to come across.

And last year we would have had to beat hull and sheff utd at wembley. We always blow it.

Why are people so worried a out losing to Everton. That was out only chance if winning something and we blew it. You don't win anything for finishing sixth or seventh . We need to win something our trophy cabinet is a laughing stock.

I would rather that we hadn't had to play tonight. 5 yellow cards, 1 Red so players suspended fortunately haven't heard of any injuries, another poor game to shoot our confidence. A week of rest and recovery would have set us up better for the tough Christmas programme, it seems ridiculous to have the League Cup Quarter Final just before a tough Christmas period of games.

It's not a question of just the next league match it could be the knock on effect for several league games to come. I would sacrifice being a few places lower in the league for a cup run but does being knocked out tonight rather then in the last round really have achieved anything?

It sums up for me that I'm not sad about getting knocked out but I am about the performance and the accumulation of unnecessary yellow/red cards. Having said all that I do understand why some find the drama of the cup compelling and in the past I felt the same but the prestige of the Premier League wins hands down for me now a days.

Lots of smaller clubs have good starts then fade. Tonight was our big chance of actually having a chance to win something

Every match is a chance to win something - cup or league. Unlike Poch he played the best players he had (in his opinion). I am not sure what you expect him to do? Put his boots on and play? We have hardly been cr*p all this season have we? Perhaps we will continue to fade, perhaps we will pick it up again. Bit early to start throwing the towel in don't you thinK

Yeah funny how 91 out of the 92 clubs always seem to blow it. There was me thinking 6 or 7 teams would win the League Cup this year but everyone seems to be blowing it again. At this rate there will only be 2 teams left by the time we get to the final.

Toby is one of our best players,

He is better than gardos

You said he played out best side

He didn't

It should have been enough to beat a league 1 side

Do you know how fit Toby was? Were you involved in the meeting that the coaching staff had when deciding the team?

I am sure Manchester United thought their team was good enough to turn over a 2nd division team at Wembley in 1976. This is cup football. Results don't always follow league positions or form.

Which is kind of my point, we're REALLY short on quality in depth.

We can point to our lack of depth all we like and it is a valid point but the management need to find a way of digging in and getting a result or two regardless when a couple of players are missing.
