Saint_Abroad Posted 16 December, 2014 Share Posted 16 December, 2014 Never been but a good place to see those jumping great whites. If you do it, ask the boat people if you can troll a pompey shirt behind the boat for a pic of a Great White devouring said shirt, or feed it to a lion on safari. This trip will give you the chance to live on in Saints internet meme glory for the rest of your life, capitalize on it and be safe and have fun. eurosaint Posted 17 December, 2014 Share Posted 17 December, 2014 I'm there for a month or so every year so can no doubt help you ! Safaris are on the eastern side (either Krueger, near Jo'burg or Shamwari, near Port Elizabeth). If you are staying in or around Cape Town there are lots of trips/outings to do - ie. Table mountain, Robben Island, Township tour etc.. I've done them all and would recommend them ! You will definitely need a car btw ! November is a good time for whale watching in Hermanus, which is also close to the winelands with many tastings in wine farms etc.. and Franshoek is also worth a visit ! This is only a small snapshot of what is available but should you need more info nearer the time then just let me know ! Ps. Fine dining is abundant and affordable so no problems there ! hutch Posted 17 December, 2014 Share Posted 17 December, 2014 It's not really a diving area unless you're hardcore. The water's pretty cold, and rough most of the time. It can get pretty stormy. You could maybe dive in False Bay but I'm not sure what you would see. Spend a day at the Aquarium at the Waterfront instead. And as Euro said, it's not in the safari belt. You need to go inland, and north of the Karoo, for that. Go and see the penguins at Boulders. You'll probably come across some baboons as well if you follow the coast road south from there. If you're going up the mountain get there early if you don't want to spend the day queueing for the cable car. The gardens at Kirstenbosch are a decent half-day out if you're into that sort of thing. Great restaurants and great wine though. And good to get out before the tourists arrive in December.
