Burnley Match Thread

Difficult half - didn't realise what a horrible team Burnley were, and it's awful luck to be playing them with Clattenberg as ref.

We haven't looked too bad. A bit jittery at the back but generally in control. Pelle's won a lot in the air - but Mane and Tadic are letting us down again.

Shout out for Steven Davis who's been impeccable in a Xavi style role. One of our best signings of the last few years IMO.

Looked bad but if you see it in slow motion Heskeths momentum means he slides in but he avoids hitting the keeper in the head however the keeper rolls around holding his head. The keeper got the boy booked!

Of course, you would defend the player with this had arfield did that challenge on forster

I can only follow here and on the Guardian's website, where the minute-by-minute asks: "Southampton have not threatened much at Burnley yet. They had similar problems breaking Villa down on their own turf the other week. Are people wising up to Koeman’s men?"

True?

We are having real problems with being the team that dictates the play and style of the game. We played better football against the better teams because that is the way they wanted to play. Mane is very off form and I believe that Tadic is only half the player on the right. This double problem is what is really causing us the issues in the final third. Pelle needs more than one chance a game because he is good but not a top champ league forward. I think Long on right and Tadic left is the way to go in the beginning of games with mane the impact replacement with his speed later on. It seemed to work better like this for us earlier in the season, then we let Mane start in place of long which was okay at first but since Mane has lost form and confidence to run at players the whole confidence of our forward players has gradually dropped. Mane needs to sit for a while and earn that starting spot back.

Hesketh the story so far. What an exciting prospect he is. I was worried he'd get crunched and sure enough. Feel bad for the lad. But exciting to know we have him up a-coming.

Mane looked dangerous for us at times and some great play from Pelle. Great save Forster. Toby having a bit of a 'mare.

Poor half, Hesketh was playing really well until he got taken out. Other than that, Pelle's been quiet, Tadic has been poor, Mane has been poor and Bertrand needs to do more to stop Trippier from crossing.

Burnley started well, but faded after 20 minutes as the game became more about our ineffective, indecisive attacking play.

Did Tadic going off the ball coincide with him moving to the right to accommodate Mane, or is that just me reaching for an excuse?

That's how it has seemed to me.

I much prefer Long on the right, Tadic on the left, and Mané on the bench. Mané doesn't seem to have a football brain at all, so his pace and (occasional) skill will end up being wasted.
