Turkish Posted 12 December, 2014 Share Posted 12 December, 2014 Isn't it great who tells it how it is and not what people want to hear. Koeman is probably the most popular manager since Strachan and he hasn't fluffed it up to get the 'dreams and ambition' brigade moist.

trousers Posted 12 December, 2014 Share Posted 12 December, 2014 Contrary to the Daily Star sub-editor's 'artistic licence' interpretation of Koeman's words in yesterdays press conference, he hasn't actually "ruled out" any outcome. He's simply saying that 5th or 6th is a far more realistic expectation than 3rd or 4th. Which is pretty much what he's said all season, if you ignore the spin that journos and sub-editors apply to the answers to their leading questions... david in sweden Posted 12 December, 2014 Share Posted 12 December, 2014 IMO...with a little more luck, we might have finished fifth last season......with this " almost new" squad and the current injury situation still with us ..an eventual fifth place would be a real triumph. Good to see that at least one person actually read the article instead of just the headline. The one thing he definitely does not do is rule out CL, he says we have to learn quick (if we want to achieve that). the real situation is that there really are only 2 teams better than us in the PL, Chelsea and City. They are so far ahead of everyone else, Man U are there despite being awful after a run of lucky results, West Ham are doing well, yet we scored 3 against them, Arsenal are unbelievably average. The thing that is preventing the dream of CL is our pathetically thin squad, just like last season. Until that is properly addressed we will never get to CL and probably not EL either. Lol - we'd have had to be *incredibly* lucky...we'd have needed another 17 points to make 5th last season! Our fans sometimes...
david in sweden Posted 12 December, 2014 Share Posted 12 December, 2014 (edited) Lol - we'd have had to be *incredibly* lucky...we'd have needed another 17 points to make 5th last season! Our fans sometimes... -----some of our fans sometimes....... pay closer attention to stats. like for instance; During the period that Boruc was out injured - we managed just 5 out of a possible 24 points..(many of those in games against teams who finished above us) and during the games that Lovren was out injured - we managed 8 of a possible 15 points. I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that had we maintained the great start we had last season, we might have finished higher than 8th.
