Massive statement today from Koeman "No players will be sold in January" He seemed very determined in the way he said it and said, I thought as a statement of fact. If so very significant and great that he has been so clear on early on. Of course we may welllose another 2 or 3 key players in the summer, but at least he has put down a strong marker and also given us time to make replacements.

I remember similar words in the summer sadly... Said in much the same way by Les Read.

I hope the board won't start undermining Koeman like they did themselves. :scared:

Similar but very different, as much argued at the time. Reed said something like "We've not received any offers and if we did they'd probably be met with a no". He very purposefully didn't say "we won't be selling any players".

No you don't. Or at least you don't remember it correctly. What was said was that no-one would be sold that unless it was in the club's interest (or a slight paraphrase of that). Completely different. More to the point why would you want to sell anyone in January. I can't even see it as a possibility. Who would it be? Isgrove?

I didn't expect any? Who do people think was going to leave? Schneiderlin is in for the full season as was said in August, and Jay Rod aint fit and no-one would bid for him in his current state.

It is one thing you not expecting any to leave but you have no control over the big clubs coming in for the likes of Schneiderlin or Wanyama but possibly others. Just good to know with some certainty that we will not entertain these offers.

Mayuka. I note that RK did not mention him when he talked about players we would lose in January and needing to replace them. Maybe the plan is to give him away rather than sell him, you know like one free Mayuka with every 4 gallons of petrol or something. We could also sell Boruc, Osvaldo, Ramirez (all unlikely but could have happened).

.it makes sense, but just wait for those pedantic types to come on in January and start shouting " liar / hypocrite."... if we end up selling Jos, or Mayuka " in the window " .

Deals like that would be a bonus, not a denial of intent.

"Koeman has also confirmed he will look to strengthen in the transfer window with Senegal wide-man Sadio Mane and Japan captain Maya Yoshida set to miss most of January due to international commitments.

The Saints boss added: "We will look for one or two players in the window because of international competitions. Mane will be at the Africa Cup of nations and Yoshida will be at the Asia Cup."

Cheers - though those players are only away temporarily, they are areas we need to strengthen regardless, especially as Toby is unlikely to sign permanently (still stranger things have happened) and we have no attacking depth.
