croydonsaint Posted 11 December, 2014 Posted 11 December, 2014 Massive statement today from Koeman "No players will be sold in January" He seemed very determined in the way he said it and said, I thought as a statement of fact. If so very significant and great that he has been so clear on early on. Of course we may welllose another 2 or 3 key players in the summer, but at least he has put down a strong marker and also given us time to make replacements.
Saint86 Posted 11 December, 2014 Posted 11 December, 2014 I remember similar words in the summer sadly... Said in much the same way by Les Read. I hope the board won't start undermining Koeman like they did themselves.
Saint86 Posted 11 December, 2014 Posted 11 December, 2014 I also think that statement relates more the morgan than it does jayrod... No one is buying Jayrod until he proves he can still run on a football pitch...
Pedro Posted 11 December, 2014 Posted 11 December, 2014 And Clyne, I would imagine a CL chasing team would love him in their line up.
croydonsaint Posted 11 December, 2014 Author Posted 11 December, 2014 I am going to take Koeman at his word. He strikes me as a very honest straightforward guy and he does not strike me as naïve.
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 11 December, 2014 Posted 11 December, 2014 I didn't expect any? Who do people think was going to leave? Schneiderlin is in for the full season as was said in August, and Jay Rod aint fit and no-one would bid for him in his current state.

I hope the board won't start undermining Koeman like they did themselves. Similar but very different, as much argued at the time. Reed said something like "We've not received any offers and if we did they'd probably be met with a no". He very purposefully didn't say "we won't be selling any players".

What was said was that no-one would be sold that unless it was in the club's interest (or a slight paraphrase of that). Completely different. More to the point why would you want to sell anyone in January. I can't even see it as a possibility. Who would it be? Isgrove?
Goatboy Posted 11 December, 2014 Posted 11 December, 2014 Let's hope we don't get a £10million offer for Osvaldo then.

It is one thing you not expecting any to leave but you have no control over the big clubs coming in for the likes of Schneiderlin or Wanyama but possibly others. Just good to know with some certainty that we will not entertain these offers.

I note that RK did not mention him when he talked about players we would lose in January and needing to replace them. Maybe the plan is to give him away rather than sell him, you know like one free Mayuka with every 4 gallons of petrol or something. We could also sell Boruc, Osvaldo, Ramirez (all unlikely but could have happened).

Whitey Grandad Posted 11 December, 2014 Posted 11 December, 2014 Maybe Mayuka? Would be a hammer blow. I don't think even West Ham would want him.

Window Cleaner Posted 12 December, 2014 Posted 12 December, 2014 Maybe Mayuka? Would be a hammer blow. Who'd be stupid enough to give us money for him, loan out maybe...still not a sale.

Deals like that would be a bonus, not a denial of intent.
david in sweden Posted 12 December, 2014 Posted 12 December, 2014 I don't think even West Ham would want him. but with " Harry's eye for talent ", he might be a good bet.....eh?

Pooe old Mayuka doesn't even get a mention for not being available in January.

Cheers - though those players are only away temporarily, they are areas we need to strengthen regardless, especially as Toby is unlikely to sign permanently (still stranger things have happened) and we have no attacking depth.
