simo Posted 8 December, 2014 Share Posted 8 December, 2014 Was it his full debut tonight ? Worth a mention amongst the post match debate I think , didn't look overawed imo will hopefully give him a boost in his confidence and development coming on against United! Saint_clark Posted 8 December, 2014 Share Posted 8 December, 2014 Technically not full debut as that's when you start a game, but his debut yes.
Colinjb Posted 9 December, 2014 Share Posted 9 December, 2014 Wish he could have tried to make an impact when things were 1-1, as soon as he appeared the ****s went back ahead. He nonetheless looked reasonable, would anticipate him appearing again at Burnley.

cobbysouth Posted 9 December, 2014 Share Posted 9 December, 2014 Looked good imo. Was expecting him to be a flaw in midfiel . Looked good made some good passes and runs. Looked better than mane and isn't he just 18?
BotleySaint Posted 9 December, 2014 Share Posted 9 December, 2014 I thought he looked decent on his first appearance. Certainly not overawed by the situation. Just surprised he replaced Tadic and not Mane when he came on!
Bucks Saint Posted 9 December, 2014 Share Posted 9 December, 2014 Yes, just 18, tough game to make your first appearance but he looked lively and made a few decent touches. Have to say would rather Reed came on and Davis moved back to his normal position though
doddisalegend Posted 9 December, 2014 Share Posted 9 December, 2014 Tadic went off injured Reed is a DM (according to Solent) Hesketh is an AM (according to Solent) so made sense as a substation for Tadic. What didn't make sense was taking Long off for Mayuka........

What didn't make sense was taking Long off for Mayuka........ But Reed could have come on as DM and Davis could have reverted to his normal role as AM when Tadic came off. It is odd that Reed has not been given any game time given the number of injuries currently in midfield positions. I think he will be disappointed he wasn't selected to start this game, never mind coming on as sub.

Reed could have easily come on. Agree re Long, but actually anyone coming off for Mayuka made us weaker
dellboypete Posted 9 December, 2014 Share Posted 9 December, 2014 reminded me of shaw when he started out - looked out of his depth for the first dozen games or so and then really took off. Saint Garrett Posted 9 December, 2014 Share Posted 9 December, 2014 Really reminded me of Lallana when he was right at the start of his career. Lightweight, and a bit of a poncy run. Hopefully he can develop to be a great little player for us. Didn't really get in the game last night despite a few decent touches.

Deano6 Posted 9 December, 2014 Share Posted 9 December, 2014 We shouldn't have made a substitution when we were about to defend a set-piece. That occurred to me too, but honestly I don't think Tadic would have played any more of a role in defending the cross. It was a straight swap too, so can't blame change in formation either (not that there would have been time for it to kick in).

For that you'd have to look at some other free kicks and corners and see where Tadic usually defends, might have a look at my recording later. I think RK was making a point to the board in putting him on and that is that we need to strengthen the squad. Agree with this - I liked the look of Hesketh, but playing him and Mayuka was not going to change the game. It was definitely a "If you want to get into Europe, we need 2 or 3 more players" message. Let's hope they give Koeman the choice over players rather than this black bloody box.

It was definitely a "If you want to get into Europe, we need 2 or 3 more players" message. Let's hope they give Koeman the choice over players rather than this black bloody box. To be fair Patrick, if you take Mane as an example, that was as much Koeman's signing as the scouting network's. Mane had destroyed Koeman's teams a couple of times in European competition. After a bright start, he wouldn't look out of place at Plainmoor playing Conference football the last 4 games but hopefully he can either improve or be dropped when we reinforce the squad in January, which clearly Ronald wants to do. Actually, Ajala and Bowman would be quite insulted by that... We've been rather unlucky with injuries in central midfield - which is stronger in depth than most PL teams - but need more options in wide areas and definitely up-front as don't see J Rod being up to much for a while when he comes back. saintsmike Posted 10 December, 2014 Share Posted 10 December, 2014 Always love to see the young players coming through. He looked very tidy, a bit like Lallana, good movement. He will get stronger with time. Also a bit disappointed that we haven't yet given young Seager a go who looks very tidy. Personally would rather Koeman gave Seager/Rowe or Gallagher a go than Mayuka who just seems to be the so called impact player who has never made an impact. adrian lord Posted 14 December, 2014 Share Posted 14 December, 2014 I would prefer that the wonderful but delicate, waif-like Academy youths got their debuts against cultured teams like Arsenal and Chelsea, rather than risk injury at the mercy of scything thugs that turn out for the likes of Burnley and Stoke. They'd likely shine more in such games, and, as we are not perhaps expected to win against such opposition anyway, playing them is not such a wider risk either. lets pray it is nothing serious. Agreed. it was quite an eventful (full) debut..if rather short. He looked to have that calm, measured pass on occasions - and if it was a bit harsh for the yellow card, it was perhaps more enthusiasm than malice. But the foul on him wasn't even a tackle ...the ball had already gone, and if the ref. had been nearer the incident then (Keane) would surely have been red-carded. Sheer brutality. S-Clarke Posted 14 December, 2014 Share Posted 14 December, 2014 he looked absolutely gutted when he had to go off, anyone know what he has done Knee injury by the looks of it, he's having a scan today and they'll know more (so Koeman said). Doesn't look good for a player who has shown promise. Must be a horrible feeling, feeling like you're on top for the world -you've made it, only to then get a nasty injury which potentially puts you back to square one - if not further away. The reality is that it's a ruthless league, we may have been looking at Hasketh to provide us competition with Mane away on AFCON - but if he's injured for a while, we will need to buy, and his position in the squad will be pushed back further. Saint_clark Posted 14 December, 2014 Share Posted 14 December, 2014 Amazing that the tackle was completely ignored by commentators and pundits when it was just as bad as the Cahill tackle for example which according to all of them should have been a straight red.
