Saints flying up financial tables too

I don't mean to put a dampner on things but surely the reason for the quick growth is promotion from League 1, with its low tv revenue, to the premier league, with its outrageously high tv income. We have obviously made a lot of money from player sales which I would imagine is another source of income we'll be looking to emulate over the coming years, just how successful this will be thouogh is anyones guess. Then there's always the possibility of the player replacements not being as good, though we done well this year.

But most teams don't go from the bottom of league 1 to the top of the premier league over the space of 4 years?

"Our revenue will come from 3 main sources: organic growth in commerial activities, new business development opportunities and improved broadcasting incomes. This revenue growth will then be aligned to the football strategies to create the self sustaining business model Southampton prides itself on"

Isn't it great to know we are in such good hands.

Rubbish

Business success in Football is totally dependent on success of first team, revenue would plummet in all 3 areas of their organic growth if we were relegated

Whilst this is true one look at our commercial income on previous years shows that we haven't been taking advantage of our success on the pitch. In our first season back in the premier league it was normal for half the corporate boxes to be empty and this was reflected in the figures, with premier league saints having commercial income lower than championship clubs like Watford. Of course the more successful sides will attract the biggest sponsors but we were failing spectacularly off the pitch. It's good to see we have people in place now who recognise that and are doing something about it.

I would add that the current regime and Cortese deserve credit in this regard.

Cortese was perhaps a necessary 'evil' at the time; we have better balance now between ruthless business governance and being a 'club'.

Agree ...good analysis.....and those stats. won't include the summer income from transfers either.

I cant wait to tell my grandkids about the days when we were so solvent, and moving up the business league table. I will talk about great names like Ralph Krueger and Gareth Rogers and Les Reed. And when they ask if they were playing in Cardiff in 2003 or set up Matt Le Tissier for his legendary goals, I'll scoff and say, "no, they werent on the pitch, they were running the club successfully, unfortunately kids, we didnt win **** all on the pitch".

Would you rather finish top four on this list, or 34th and a cup run?

finishing top four on this list would not give me anything to shout about, a cup run would, so its an obvious answer.

I mean if ANYONE tells me they would rather finish top four in this list than a cup run then i really would think football (the game) was dead and buried.

Que, the Leeds/Skates scenario questions..... would you rather be fourth on the list than winning the CL and nearly going bust again.

well to save time, we cant go bust under Kat, its pretty much impossible unless she wanted it to happen purposely and even then that would be a difficult thing to do, so that question would be irrelevant.

I'd rather win something, been to Wembley and see us lose the ZDS, been to Cardiff and lose, seen us finish eighth in the PL and never seen us win a title. The JPT is what we have done, which was great and no matter how high on the rich or solvent or great business list we are, it wont compare to winning at Wembley.

So its great being solvent and doing well, but wake me up when we win something on a football pitch.

Great to see the club growing off the pitch too. Enormous credit to Gareth, Ralph, Dave and Les for this

http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/20141207-southampton-fast-track-100-2126673.aspx

This has [almost] nothing to do with Ralph. This is based on figures for financial years up to June 2014, so apart from about 4-5 months Ralph cannot take any credit. Gareth and Les for sure (is Dave Bence new or has he been with Saints a long time, he has replaced Gareth as CFO but I don't know if that is a promotion from within). Credit for this must go to Cortese, Markus and for the last year or so to Katharina as well as Gareth and Les. But just to put some perspective on this, the reason we have done so well is because we started with virtually nothing 5 years ago, therefore the increase in percentage terms is enormous, but not in real terms. The reason is almost entirely due to promotion to the Premier League and staying there for 2 seasons. Fact is as the new board have also said our commercial income (outside of broadcast rights) is actually very poor (Cortese's fault). We could have done so much better.

Warning flags are flying, I see a sincere Turkish post. ;)

And you can then lay the blame firmly at the feet of the Premier League, and the Financial Fair Play rules.

Unless we get into the Champions League this season, in which case the FFP is the greatest thing ever. *Hastily pulls up ladder*

These figures are a reflection of Cortese's input over the last 5 years So i guess the boy did good after all.

The current lot are still feeding off Cortese's legacy atm and will be judged over the next five years. So lets see if they can stand on their own two feet and continue the upward trajectory without selling the rest of our hard earned assets.....Continuing to bleed key members of staff is not a good start but we'll see.
