Pelle - Why is he fluffing it?

he was brilliant at the start of the season

but lately, not really getting much on target and against the better sides in the last two, really fluffing his lines. he needed (and needs to) do miles better than he has

he has scored in 2 games from the last 9

he is better than he is showing at the mo but was that just an early purple patch or will the class shine though?

He's had little service

He's been isolated

He's been playing against much better defenders

He's an £8m striker not a £30m one so he's not going to be brilliant every game

If he gets 15 goals this season it's still an excellent return.

He's definitely a flat track bully.

I did not know what this was, so I looked up the definition. Apparently this is a decent batsman who bottles it in the face of higher quality opposition! Also who doesn't 'help out' the fielders.

I don't know if Pellé is a decent batsman? He looks too tall?

He's been more isolated for the last few games. I don't think the early chance against Arsenal was as easy as some think. It'll come good for him soon, starting on Monday

It was a great move in the first place but when the ball dropped to him he tried to smash it instead of a composed finish from a man in form. A top class striker scores or at least makes the keeper make a save, Pelle is good but not top class.

After a decent goal to matches return for the past couple of years, like most strikers when the goals hit a lean patch they get a bit windy, and the longer it goes on the harder they try. Wednesdays smash for example if he had scored last week would have been more controlled. Add to this he has just broken into the Italian squad late in his career, all sorts of Devils are possibly dancing around between his ears.......... Stick one in the Onion bag next game and their music stops playing.

Apart from the missed chance, he was strong on Weds. I lost count of the number of times he won - and controlled - possession from long balls from Forster or others. That right there is a hugely powerful weapon. Sometimes he goes for the killer flick a little too often, but when they come off ... like the ball to Davis that set up his chance on Weds ... they are beautiful to see. Everyone should relax and just cheer him on. He'll be scoring again v soon.

I agree. He also seems a strong leader on the pitch too.

Name one chance in the matches against Villa, City or Arsenal that you think he "fluffed".

Truth is that the clear cut handed haven't been there. Saints failing to score many is not the fault of Pelle for "fluffing it".

Typical over reaction from somebody who doesn't actually watch the games.

Exactly that really. He's a very good striker, not a great one and the Premier League is probably the toughest in the world.

Man City game mid first half, great cross from Schneiderlin that he could have buried or at least tested the keeper. Then the chance that fell to him mid first half against Arsenal, if he was in top form he would have buried. Just happens from time to time for pretty much all strikers.

I find myself agreeing with this

There really aren't many strikers who score week in week out in this league. 15 goals would be a decent return, and he's course to get it. The expectation of strikers is too much these days

15 would be OK if we had someone to get the other 20 that we need from our front men, JRod being out for so long is a big blow, I'm sure that the club were counting on him to

share the goalscoring load with Pelle, if not we'd have signed someone else.

I think he played well on Wednesday and over the last 3-4 games he's had literally **** all service. Anyone watching Jamie Redknapp on Sky Sports? He looks like he's trying to copy Pelle's dress sense and hair.

i can't remember him having a shot on target wednesday?

He had at least one that was blocked by the defender, but even so you're ignoring the rest of his game. He held up the ball better than he has since Leicester at home and his passes were connecting once again.

He was definitely better than against villa where he was woeful and just didn't look interested, he is a good player not trying to say he isn't just that he does seem to go missing recently
