Dellman Posted 30 November, 2014 Posted 30 November, 2014 Someone must be better at corners and dead balls. We were infantile, couldn't beat the first man, that's basic to any match in any division. Very disappointing today. What's Terry Paine doing these days?

There must be something in the water.
AussieDog Posted 30 November, 2014 Posted 30 November, 2014 I thought we had 2 really good chances to score. Unfortubately Pelle is just off his top game at the moment. The through ball by Schneiderlin was sublime in the 1st half. Pelle half a yard too slow for Long's cross in the 2nd. Maybe Long would have made more of his chance if the City guy hadn't blocked him when he got sent off. Other than that I'm struggling to pick out the positives as we did so many things badly that we have been doing well all season (and I know this is meant to be the "positive" thread, but the worst decision was to disrupt a settled defence)
tajjuk Posted 30 November, 2014 Posted 30 November, 2014 Those defending Yoshida, sorry but he was poor, especially for Lampard's goal, can't close down a 36 year old and just turn your back. The rest of his play wasn't great either. Losing Morgan upset our balance quite a lot. Shame generally but the Pelle chance could have changed the game, we got lucky with the early pen, whethered the storm and got back into the game. Had that gone in I think we would have gone on to win the game and upset Man City's confidence but instead they got the crucial first.

Yoshida has been on the pitch for 6 of the 9 goals we have given up this season. And he hasn't been on the pitch a whole lot. First three matches of the season, a half at Swansea and a half against City. I still think moving Alderweireld out of the CB position was a poor decision. You put in Reed or you put in Long and drop Davis back some.
david in sweden Posted 1 December, 2014 Posted 1 December, 2014 unexpected result?......(not really). Very disappointing - of course, but it highlights the difference between a side that cost £60 million, and a club that has spent £400 million in the last few years. Citeh had their injuries, yet still had enough strength in depth to take care of whatever threat we had to show. Steven Davis wasn't back at 100% and losing Scheiderlin tilted the balance of a HT 0-0. but really we showed definite frailities in some areas. Tadic didn't get into the game, and Pelle really needs a goal for his confidence as much as anything. He's getting double marked as a one-man strike force. Many people suggest that we've had a relatively " soft start" (fixture-wise) compared to several other challengers. By the New Year we will have a better perspective on just what this squad is/isn't capable of. Still 110% behind Koeman, but the honeymoon is over, and the real test of his ability is not the next 10 games, but what he does in the January window to stabilise things.
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 1 December, 2014 Posted 1 December, 2014 I'm guessing you're glad we kept hold of Morgan? Of course I am. Was it your march through St Mary's that stopped it happening? If so, fairplay.

Plastic Posted 1 December, 2014 Posted 1 December, 2014 Sorry, do not agree and the stats for the games back that up We struggled with completely un-contested crosses/set pieces/corners for a start and gave the ball away for too easily at time Pelle completely fluffed his lines and yet scores a complete worldy in one of the games you mention Sadly I agree. I'm still annoyed at just how easily we allowed ourselves to be turned over yesterday.
Leslie Charteris Posted 2 December, 2014 Posted 2 December, 2014 Could it be that we lost because: City were up for it Pellegrini got his tactics spot on Man for man they are a better team than us Jermaine Jenas' analysis on the BBC website is quite compelling http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30268213
Ashby Saint Posted 2 December, 2014 Posted 2 December, 2014 +ve We are still third. Steven Davis is back. -ve Too many off-form - Pelle, Tadic, Mane all seem off the pace and not in synch. Schneiderlin picked up an injury.

Sometimes you've just got to say fair play to the other team. Rather than pick yourself apart. It felt like a chess game, and they definitely outsmarted us on this occasion.

hypochondriac Posted 2 December, 2014 Posted 2 December, 2014 Personally I thought that city were absolutely excellent whereas we were OK.
S-Clarke Posted 2 December, 2014 Posted 2 December, 2014 Personally I thought that city were absolutely excellent whereas we were OK. I think that's a fair point. I think even if we played at our maximum, we'd still have lost. They were THAT good on Sunday. Their work ethic was something else.
