But we're still on 26 points and third in the league. I don't think we're the worst.

We just had a pretty ****ty day today, it was always going to happen. Let's not go over the top.

We were playing Manchester City, they are the title defenders. I swear some of you on here need to have a reality check. Like S-Clarke just said we had a good show of form and we have 26 points to show for it. Just because we don't get 3 points doesn't mean the whole team is ****. Instead of coming on the forum after a poor display, go and cool down.

Did Villa also have title defenders?

We don't make very good use of set pieces at all. I wonder if the Statos can tell us how many goals we have got from corners and free kicks this season I can't think off any of the top of my head. We are having a good season but it could be better if we were more of a threat from set pieces.

Set pieces were poor, never really got it past the first defender. But these things happen, wouldn't get too concerned about it. I'm sure RK will highlight this to them and we will an improvement on all set pieces on Wed.

Tadic's crossing has been poor most of the season - excellent at picking a pass on the deck and clipping the ball forward into space; but tends to underhit most of his crosses, rarely beating the first man.

From corners, Davis tends to stand balls up; rather than whipping them into the box. Surprised we didn't take more short-corners as we've done in the past with greater success.

On the whole, it says something when your best crosses come from a left-back who ventures forward infrequently (at least compared to Clyne).

What has this got to do with how woeful our crosses and corners have been in the last two games?

Tadic's corners are terrible. First man nearly every time. A professional who takes a worse corner than me is quite something!

Bertrand seems to have a decent cross on him when he's running with the ball. Wonder what his dead ball crossing is like.

The OP is about Set pieces, crosses and free kicks, not form or the amount of points we have. I completely agree with them, we are simply terrible at all of them. If we continue to hit crosses into the first man on every set piece we are going to suffer. JWP would walk into this team.

JWP is head and shoulders above anyone at set pieces, but for me he doesn't add enough. Who's he going to replace?

Sure, the corners weren't good but it's not just about the cross. City didn't clear the front man with several of theirs, but that front man was one of their guys and the flick-on caused us a ton of trouble.

It would be nice to see one of our big guy make a late near-post run just in case we under-hit the cross - again.

I have noticed that a lot of dead ball deliveries this season have been pretty shabbily from most teams, corners especially as many teams seem to be working these short re delivered passes to a runner outside the box to hit, as 9 out of 10 times they don't pass the first man, Palace seem to loop the ball into the box but it gets so much airtime that the keeper has done the Times Crossword then trots out to pluck the ball from the air: I think having the roundest ball ever this season is the reason.

We had a couple of free kicks from just wide of the box which weren't too bad, but I've come to expect nothing from corners - unless they're short. Reminds me of a training session with my lad's team where we did 60 corners with no direct attempt at goal!

Focusing on the poor free kicks takes attention away from how shocking our corners were. Tadic should never take another one. We would be better off taking it short and putting it straight out for a goal kick so we can get everyone back behind the ball. They scored their third directly from our corner when Tadic hit it straight to Lampard. Not a Saints player within 10 yards of that corner and no further touches by one of our players before Clichy buried it. If I was a ref I would book Tadic for timewasting if he ever attempts to take another corner.
