"Liverpool join Sunderland and Norwich in the race for Exeter's highly-rated Matt Grimes"

Exeter's player of the season at the age of 18. Yes, I know "it's only Exeter" but that's still a notable achievement for an 18 year old.

Well I don't live too far away from Exeter and went to a few of their games last season. He's definitely a talent. Very talented, tricky attacking midfielder. They've also just re-signed Ryan Harley on loan from league 1 who is a very similar player to Grimes, interesting as Exeter are struggling financially and probably wouldn't have the income to get a few loans in without a little injection.

I've seen him play a few times (hence the location!) and I'm not surprised by this. Seems to be well known that he won't be at SJP by the end of the transfer window. Looks like a Saints player too - technically strong, takes a good set piece and not afraid to take risks. He is gaining in strength and I'm told his attitude is good - and would be a good fit.

Exeter fans are delighted about Harley's return - genuine legend there. Hope he hasn't lost a bit of fitness and heart at Swansea/Brighton/Swindon.

Interestingly the fans seem to be happy about it. They agree that Southampton would be a great fit for the kid (seems weird calling a footballer a kid - must be getting older), and frankly he seems good. Especially if he's worked with Reed before. Would be quite happy to sign him in Jan!

Went to some Exeter games last season and he is a very talented player. Skilful and creative and surprisingly strong physically for someone that young. Exeter have a good record at bringing through young players and give them plenty of chances to impress. I think he would be an excellent signing. As people have already said, Exeter don't have much money and fans I have spoken to expect him to move on soon.

Yeah shame that he hasn't played much football since leaving Exeter. I only go a couple times a season but he was always me and my friends favourite player. I hope to go to see Exeter a few times soon.

Ryan Harley , that is.^

Will go and see Exeter play soon and will come back with an in-depth analysis for you all to enjoy. I've also got a mutual friend on one of their youth teams, will see if I can find anything out.

I go to the uni at Exeter and went to watch them the other day. By far the stand out player on the pitch - looked very creative, technically good and quite strong too. At half time I said to my friend that he reminded me a lot of Lallana (although he plays slightly deeper) in terms of both looks and playing style! Heard about 5 others say the same thing after that.

Would be very happy if we signed him - seems like a good deal for both parties.

Struggling financially? I thought they were fan-owned, like Pompey.
