Robbie Savage - Why its time to take Saints seriously

Like all pundits The Man of Bronze comes out with some ill informed statements but in general I like him. In our case he has been pretty straight in acknowledging he got it wrong and he is far more entertaining than most. I enjoyed the article, but then fans always enjoy positive articles about their club.

Is it time to take Robbie Savage seriously?

No, it isn't.

I agree my ursine chum, and I take a LOT of other things seriously :)

Did you see him on MoTD? Proper spouting shíte; Lineker mugged him off with a sarcastic "good point".

Whenever I see the f**ker, I imagine there is some stubborn barber somewhere in the East Midlands that refuses to leave the 1980s that has been kept afloat single-handedly by Savage's "demand".

To be fair to the **** most of what he wrote there is correct, though hardly insightful. Just a shame that by putting up the then and now teams he missed the key man out that meant we struggled on Monday night, i.e. Steven Davis. Being a little bit pedantic it would have been better if he had put Tadic on the left where Lallana was, not necessarily because he plays there all the time (though he does seem to be slightly more effective on the left) but because his other points were about replacing Lallana with Tadic.

Unfortunately for the **** he is probably about to back the wrong horse again, just like he did pre-season, bigging us up just as we are going to start to slip up (for the same reason as last season, lack of strength in depth when Messrs Injury and Suspension come calling).

it's not Messrs injury and suspension that are calling...it's Man City Chelsea and Man U that are calling

I said when they come calling. Because call they will, just losing SD last week was bad enough (and we are already denied the services of JRod and JWP). Pelle and Morgan 1 booking away from suspension. I don't see any reason to be afraid of Man City or Manure if we have our full team available. Chelsea are a different matter. There are too many similarities with last season for my liking.

Savage wouldn't have even written this.

Will just be ghoat written by a BBC trainee from the analysts department and Robbie just puts his name to it.

It was written by Chris Bevan of BBC Sport. Says so at the end of the article. Still no evidence that Robbie Savage can write.

It's clear that is was written by Chris Bevan as Professor states. All that happens is that Robbie Savage tells the journo his thoughts and it is written down for him. Nothing new there at all. Same applies to most football ex-player pundits in print. Notable exception of ex Pompey player and current bankrupt David James who does write his pieces for the Guardian and donates the fee to charity.

TBF there's a barber in Sandwich that once a month drops to his knees to give praise that the 'flat top' never (quite) went out of fashion.

Why do you need "evidence that Robbie Savage can write"?

Who cares? It's a analysis piece from Savage written up by a journalist in a format that has been around since just after the invention of ink.

Savage is an idiot when he's wrong, and he's still an idiot when he's right.

Odd thing - most journalists / pundits take a stance and seem to stick it regardless of facts. Savage has been big enough to admit that he has called it wrong and has written a positive article about us. Maybe not the most insightful article and a clear error regarding the nearly ever present Davis, but from what I can see, it would appear that he is mostly positive about us. Why are we so chippy about this...?

The hair and clothes are awful, I do agree...

Merson's latest should get people frothing:

I watched Southampton last week and I was disappointed. Everybody is telling me how great they are. I hadn’t seen them play before and I watched the Villa game and they didn’t look like a second-placed team to me. I said on Soccer Saturday they will finish seventh or eighth and I’m not going to change my mind from Monday’s performance. I didn’t think their attitude was great and I think they thought they just had to turn up and that wasn’t the case.

Oliver Kay says good things today in the times. Behind a pay wall alas.

Presumably the "come on, destabilise Southampton for us" financial offer from the big clubs wasn't substantial enough.

I imagine Oliver Kay will "fall down some stairs" sometime in the next week or so.

They have already faded out all but first two paragraphs. Never happens to pay subscription pages about the big clubs.
