hypochondriac Posted 27 November, 2014 Share Posted 27 November, 2014 Good news. Should get a much higher price if we do sell him and may mean we can keep him for a little longer.
Sour Mash Posted 27 November, 2014 Share Posted 27 November, 2014 Good news. I wonder what that means, if anything, for Bertrand going forward. Hopefully we'll get both signed up on long term deals.

Wiggles31 Posted 28 November, 2014 Share Posted 28 November, 2014 Really believe this young chap can do as well as Chambers and Shaw. Great news if true. Been really impressed in his games against Arsenal and Stoke. Hope he starts against Sheff Utd.
ART Posted 28 November, 2014 Share Posted 28 November, 2014 Sadly I don't think Koeman will be like previous managers and give guys like Targett and others the fast road to the first team. We no longer seem as keen to sign British players. I guess like Chelsea it's the price of Champions League. At least the contract ensures we'll get a decent price for him if other clubs come sniffing. I'd like to wish Matt every success as he's definitely got a big future ahead of him. It takes time to develop but I'm sure that we will sign-up the best of the (Academy) bunch when it comes to it. It's a big jump from U21 to Premier League, but we've seen those who have made the transition without disgracing themselves; Chambers, Shaw, JWP , so I'm sure they'll be more - in time. Assuming Matt was still here in 5 years time (doubtful)....we need cover for eventual injuries, suspensions ...and more immediately someone to play LB against Chelsea... when Bertrand can't play (loan deal) Reading that Luke Shaw's injury will keep him out for.. .at least 8 games ((did I read?)...we need to ask ourselves, who would cover Bertrand if he were to be out for 8 games....or longer?...Yoshida? Clearly ...the prospect of continued success, and the possibility of Euro football next season means we need (other) players capable of playing at that level, and not just occasional games in Capital One Cup. happy clapper Posted 28 November, 2014 Share Posted 28 November, 2014 It will be interesting to see who gets the LB spot against Chelsea next month! It would certainly be a baptism of fire for Matt Targett with so very little premier league experience. I suspect Clyne will switch from RB, Toby will play RB and Gardos will come in. Targett has played away at Arsenal and Stoke - two tough tests and he did well in both. Very tough test against Chelsea, but I think we'll go with our 2nd choice left back. His record elsewhere does not support your hypothesis,. This season he had to construct a team capable of recovering from the "fire sale", he's achived that, bringing in 4 british players in the process. If Davis is still out we should move Wanyama further forward to replace him. Then Tadic could cover DM, push Pelle out wide and use Long supporting Schnederlin up front. Lighthouse Posted 28 November, 2014 Share Posted 28 November, 2014 Had a dream last night that he scored a 90th minute equaliser with a free kick at Sheff Utd. Then Lallana and Lambert scored again within the next minute and we won 3-1. This might not come to fruition in real life.
the saint in winchester Posted 28 November, 2014 Share Posted 28 November, 2014 Why would we make 3 changes to our back 4 when we only need make 1? Yeah, I would expect Targett to be trusted at LB. If he gets a pasting first half, we may need to start switching players around.
ART Posted 28 November, 2014 Share Posted 28 November, 2014 I would like to see Bertrand and Targett playing together, with the opportunity of interchanging. For me this would provide the best opportunity for Matt to learn from Bertrand's experience. A suspension for Scheiderlin might just open a re-organisation and such a move on the left whilst Cork comes in on the right together with Wanyama in the central role. Just think what happen with the RB position over the summer and the reason Chambers was sold.
Toadhall Saint Posted 28 November, 2014 Share Posted 28 November, 2014 Why would we make 3 changes to our back 4 when we only need make 1? Mind boggling really. Targett will get the nod and be more than capable.

Very tough test against Chelsea, but I think we'll go with our 2nd choice left back. no better chance to see how he performs against top opposition. Shaw had his early games against highly-placed teams, and Matt must come to terms with the role ......sooner or later.
