I doubt his faith had much to do with this. Just seems like your average glory hunter.

Looking at his facebook page, the very latest he would have been following Saints would be summer 2013 (mind you, that's when the account was created). I'm sure he could have chosen a better team than one who had just finished 14th, and that's conservatively assuming he only started following when he joined facebook!
