Clunge Posted 25 November, 2014 Share Posted 25 November, 2014 It may just be me but has anyone else noticed that our crossing has been terrible recently? If we aren't hitting the first man its going far to long or even just straight out of play, last night was probably the worst I've seen it. We have even started playing these fancy short corners, not even bothering to cross the ball in.
notnowcato Posted 25 November, 2014 Share Posted 25 November, 2014 RK alluded to it after last nights match.

lloydie Posted 25 November, 2014 Share Posted 25 November, 2014 [video=youtube_share;rk_RginE3EQ] Brilliant answer, so in response to a thread about crossing... you posted a vid of a player shooting a lot from free kicks? With the only section of the video that was on his crossing, showing half a cross? Didn't even get to see where it ended up?! Needs a bit of work that reply. Besides, other than corners/freekicks our crossing from open play was dreadful, never seen so many shanked crosses in a match before. Can remeber one decent one that fonte headed at guzan but that's about it.
Bucks Saint Posted 25 November, 2014 Share Posted 25 November, 2014 Plenty of neutrals who somehow stuck with watching that game last night have said how poor it was too. Very few got close to finding Pelle, or anyone else for that matter. Mane had someone else's boots on I think
Saint_Tony Posted 25 November, 2014 Share Posted 25 November, 2014 It was poor last night, but Villa had a lot of bodies back in the box. It's strange how we finally have a game on sky and fail to turn up. Must leave neutrals wondering how we are 2nd. Great opportunity to put things right on Sunday

ericofarabia Posted 25 November, 2014 Share Posted 25 November, 2014 I also thought the quality of the crossing and dead ball delivery was pretty poor. After brilliantly making space for himself Tadic's crossing barely got past 1st defender and Long, Mane and Clyne were guilty of some poor efforts as well after getting into position to deliver. Pretty sure RK will have them doing plenty of practicing before the next game. I think it was mentioned elsewhere about the amount of long diagonal balls Morgan delivered which gave the defence plenty of time to get organised, rather than crisp balls to feet, although due to the amount of defenders Villa had that wasn't always an option available. Some of Big Vic's short passing was a bit sluggish, especially compared to recent games. Mane didn't have his shooting boots on, but does look to get into shooting positions well. Just one of those days where any of those little things on their own wouldn't have been too bad, but with virtually everyone not quite firing on all cylinders at the same time we didn't look as slick as we have so far this season. We'll certainly need to step it up against Citeh though, some of their play against Swansea was mesmerising, yet they looked very vulnerable when Swansea attacked. Hopefully a good open game will help us.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 25 November, 2014 Share Posted 25 November, 2014 I'm sure everybody noticed. Does anyone know why? Why the crossing was so poor? 'One of those nights' i.e. everyone was having a bit of an off day, not great conditions and Villa having almost everyman back at all times. Huffton Posted 25 November, 2014 Share Posted 25 November, 2014 This really winds me up. The box is crowded so fire it across and let it pinball round a bit, half the time a defender will stick a leg out and it goes in anyway. High floaty crosses are too easy for keepers/CBs, and with no pace on the ball strikers struggle to get enough power behind a header.

We did try that a couple of times, not enough may be but no one got on the end of it, nor did it hit anyone. Think sticking out a leg is being coached out of players now at the highest level, except for at Arsenal of course where it would seem to be actively encouraged. fanimal Posted 25 November, 2014 Share Posted 25 November, 2014 The one decent cross Morgan? put in Guzan got his foot to and deflected it away - he wasn't given much credit last night, his save form Mane was top drawer. About time we came up against a decent keeper!!

About time we came up against a decent keeper!! In fact without Guzan thay'd be in a pretty bad way. Like him as a keeper myself, no doubt he has some "black box" weakness that i've not seen enough of him to notice but he plays pretty well every time that I see him. the saint in winchester Posted 25 November, 2014 Share Posted 25 November, 2014 Not even 'hit and hope'. More pass it around from left to right and back to the CD, out to the RB/LB and try to go forward ... no, back again. I was screaming at the TV for someone to take the responsibility to take a player on to create space for others.

Bearsy Posted 25 November, 2014 Share Posted 25 November, 2014 Putting a cross in seems like a low percentage move when there is lots of defender bros in the box. What I would do, right, is run into the box + then dive.

Golden Balls Posted 25 November, 2014 Share Posted 25 November, 2014 I was getting so frustrated at our crossing. Bertrand seems to do okay but the rest were terrible. Best cross of the night was from Fonte!! (I realise we scored from a cross but that fell to Clyne through luck rather than judgement) It wasn't just last night. Against QPR I noticed this too. Yet the few crosses in comparison we allowed from both Villa and QPR all seemed very dangerous and whipped. I'm not JWP's biggest fan. I don't think he adds enough to the game generally. But if we had him yesterday with the number of set pieces we had, he'd have caused them havoc.

Villa's back 5 are all pretty big blokes and it looked like we were trying to loft crosses over them, to no avail of course. Pelle was totally mastered by their what 436th ansd 437th choice CBs, would rather have had Senderos myself because Clark,Hutton and Cissokho had good games as did Guzan, the Danish African perhaps not so much but he was a big unit against our smaller men in Long and Mané. Pulling the ball back as Bertrand eventually did for a MF running on was the way to go perhaps. A lot of our goals are coming from the MFs and defenders just now. Wiggles31 Posted 26 November, 2014 Share Posted 26 November, 2014 Agreed it was dissappointing last night but Betrand has one hell of a decent cross on him as does Clyne. Didn't see enough of them getting towards the by-line and one of the few times they did we scored.
