Lallana's Left Peg Posted 22 November, 2014 Share Posted 22 November, 2014 KuipTalk @KuipTalk Looks like Feyenoord is adding 17 year old Australian-Greek midfielder George Mells to its academy, arriving from Southampton. KuipTalk @KuipTalk Mells impressed during trials and will presumably start in the U18 team. #SaintsFC #Feyenoord Haven't seen much of him and not aware of the reasons behind the move. david in sweden Posted 22 November, 2014 Share Posted 22 November, 2014 if Mells is " that good " can expect him to get some game time with Feyenoord.....(if he were a negative influence in our U18's, Koeman surely wouldn't put himself in bad with his old club). I don't think they respect him any less, because he left them for better things. Now that our squad has stabilised a bit, perhaps we can expect a bit more loan / transfers between the clubs?. krissyboy31 Posted 22 November, 2014 Share Posted 22 November, 2014 Could it be something to do with his scholarship visa? If he does not have an EU passport and we are not offering him a professional contract, maybe he's not able to stay? Belgium have less stringent rules on this, not sure of the Netherlands. Depends just how Greek an Australo Greek is really. If he's Greek he's got a EU passport, if he isn't then he probably hasn't.

VectisSaint Posted 22 November, 2014 Share Posted 22 November, 2014 Not necessarily. thet have to apply anf if they haven't by their 18 birthday, they are no longer eligible. He is Australian, but both his parents have Greek ancestry (probably means his Grandparents were Greek). He has been with Saints since he was 14 (17 now) and before that was with Chelsea. I don't think going to Feyenoord will have anything to do with his nationality or visa type issues. Easier for him to get into England than any European nation as an Aussie.
