The Black Box - the reason Cork has no new contract?

No way Trousers, if the youngsters are good enough they force their way through soon enough and usually by the time they are 18. Jack Cork is the Fred Kemp of his day. Loved by the fans but not rated by the management. Tony Funnell was another one.

No offence but I think I'll side with the management..

FF's point wasn't that he should be playing more but that it's hard to understand why we wouldn't have signed him to a new contract in order to protect his market value.

And it's a very valid point because that's very much in the club's best interests.

The longer it's left the more likely it is that we'll lose a potentially significant amount of money. It would be understandable if Corky, realizing that he's not highly rated here, becomes reluctant to sign an extension in order to increase his options for a new club - and probably his wages because that new club wouldn't need to pay a big fee for him.

It's an arguable point but if we just let him go in the summer, we have lost a transfer fee we would have got last summer, or this January but we haven't lost money per se. He only cost £750k or so and we've had our money's worth.

If we give him a two year contract and he does a J-Rod then we could actually lose more money than by just letting him go.

Basically, just giving him a contract to force someone to pay a transfer fee might just be a pointless exercise on a player we have already realised the fee for. If the manager wants to let him go, then let him go nice and cleanly in the summer.

This

I fully expect you wouldnt get an awful lot more than 5m or so, maybe a tad more towards 10 perhaps. But all in all signing him up (which will include a signing bonus) would be pretty pointless. For me its quite evident that the situation suits us both. He is effectively acting as our back up right now and is able to negotiate with anyone he sees fit with in the summer.

He will be on very reasonable wages, if you have (potentially) reed and JWP waiting in the wings whats the point of tying up 40k a week or so in the off chance you could get a transfer fee ? The FFP changes that.

After last night's game v Villa many are saying it would have been a lot better if Cork had replaced Davis and obviously he is highly regarded by the majority of fans including me. But with Koeman admitting that they are already working on a new deal for Clyne it is evident that a new contract for Cork is just not on the table either now or the future. Big big mistake I reckon. He is a 10m player who will leave for nought.

Not like you to be more pro-saints/positive than me but.....

Would be stunned if he went for anywhere near £10m.

He is definately a squad player for us rather than automatic starter. He gets involved a lot, quite tidy but unfortunately doesn't excell in any area. Wanyama and Morgan are better at all aspects, Davis much more effective and quicker thinking in attacking third, JWP more reliable on the ball and set pieces.

Last two managers have preferred other 4 so can't see him being bought for £10m.

Having said that, as "back up" player I am never disappointed to hear he is starting, a very good player - and sort we need if ever in more competitions.

If Reed is as good as thought, and others stay, and maybe sign another, I can see his days being numbered, and unfortunately probably rightly so

There are 101 reasons one could think of why Cork doesn't have a new contract - well before one starts speculating about an object whose purpose, design and use are a mystery. For all we know, the black box could quite as easily recommend a player like Cork, assuming that it's job is to recommend players.

In short, the theory is mongboard white noise at its most painful and laboured.

Sit down shurlock! it's clear that Black Box has got something against JC, i don't know if it's justified football reason or merely some kind of personal grudge, but I'm glad bros are asking the question. Black Box has got too much power at SMS I reckon! Poss need to install surge protection

yes v.funny lets b avenue, but this is not really laughing matter! What do we even know about Black Box? How can we trust it? Alright people will say it's only Jack Cork + we have loads of midfielders, but what if it starts picking on i.e. Nathaniel Clyne next? Would you like to lose Nathaniel Clyne on free transfer because Block Box decided not to offer him contract? WOULD YOU?

I'm saying he can't! I'm saying that once you go down this route, once you defer decisions on ur transfer dealings to the machines, judgement day is inevitable! Is only a matter of time! Future generations, huddled around meagre camp fires in empty + destroyed wastelands, will curse Black Box. Markus Liebherr Pavillion will be remembered not for it's role in producing young footballers, but will be known as Ground Zero for Robot Uprising, and it is all ur fault, Les Reed :(
