talkSPORT - Great Read

EXCELLENT ARTICLE.

One thing that has come out of this entire affair, is seeing that motivated/satisfied people who work in a well-structured organisation perform far above their (and others) expectations and succeed, and

paying people the highest salaries in the marketplace is no guarantee of success. Problems just don't - go away - by throwing money at them, as proven by Spuds, Liverpool and (especially) Man.U.

Whether Saints do well enough to qualify for a European competition may not be a major factor this season, but the fact that other clubs now surely realise that The Southampton Way works, otherwise why else would they be queueing up to buy our players?..... and lure away our key personnel.

The real test of our " new Koeman side " may rest on the fitness and resilience of our players and the results in the next 10 games. Teams like Chelsea and Man City have resources way above anything we might dream of, but the mere fact that we are already where we are in the league, has shown that Saints have the greatest improvement in recent years ...of any Prem.club (outside of the "Big Six").

Injuries play a major role in a club's success/failure, especially when it is key players who are out for long periods. When clubs like Liverpool have to learn to live without Suarez and now the injured Sturridge, and Man U (seemingly) having lost the improving Welbeck to Arsenal and Danny Blind (injury) for the rest of this year...... it brings them down to the level of ordinary mid-table sides, and others clubs who visit White Hart Lane, Old Trafford and Anfield in the near future may go there with hope of winning points, and not the fear of an inevitable defeat.

Of course, these " Big Clubs " will continue to try and solve their problems with a cheque book every transfer window, but in truth they already realise that the resolution to their difficulties needs more than just buying the better Saints' players, or some international superstar.

If things go (as we hope) Ronald Koeman will continue to invest in the new Pelle's, Tadic's and Mane's and give us that depth in our squad they we always seemed to have lacked in the past, and likely do it by spending..... much less than the price of those who have already jumped ship.

One thing to be sure is that (regardless of individual results) the next ten games will give us an indication, not just of this season, but what we may expect in the coming years - if we do it right.

Great article here about the saints stricture and philosophy.

I know there has been a few of late but this one seems like a very well planned out argument / statement.

You're right, they're have been loads of articles touching on one or more elements of this one. However, I think this one has the best oversight and detail of all of them, without going over the top. So we done, Talksport - who would have thought it?!?

The depth of analysis is gobsmacking really.

Yeah it seems she has done some research and not just gone with what she read in 3 or 4 headlines in other publications.

Yes they are 2nd hand quotes but used to compliment the argument.

My only concern is that hunter looks pretty integral to the set up. Why he would consider leaving knowing the set up we have does baffle me a bit (and I'm dure for that kind of staff member we could match wages offered by tottenham)

Mitchells off, not hunter, but same applies really, I think he is more important than people realise

The continuity of Hunter and Reed working together seems important to us. They've been colleagues in some capacity for twenty years, and we are lucky that they've arrived together at Saints. Knowing each other they way they do, they've been able to blend seamlessly into the established set up, and take things further forward.

Also nice to see former academy graduates like Gareth Bale being prepared to speak about the club in the promo materials. I'm sure they gave him plenty of cash for it, but I doubt he'd lie for a few quid. Nice for parents of promising kids to see that.
