Come on ENGLAND, ENGLAND, France.....

After the International break, and interruptions to our title challenge, time to practice our next St Mary's England chant.

COME ON ENGLAND, ENGLAND, France, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, Serbia, Senegal, Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Kenya, Zambia, Japan and Romania!!!!

(after ENGLAND, ENGLAND, other caps' countries to be sung very, very fast.

One for each player. Have I left anyone out? I've included every senior who played for their countries this last week, including Mayuka. (Does anyone know if Gardos played for Romania btw? I might be wrong there)

For the youth competitions we'll need another list of international players' countries.

Surely we must now be able to field one of the largest squads of international players as all but the big clubs.

(I think it will be too complicated to change the chant for countries according to who is on the pitch.)

So start practising now!

Well, I for one am glad that "we must now be able to field one of the largest squads of international players as all but the big clubs".

Maybe we could be all excited about getting one of the highest positions in English football other than the big clubs too?

It's intended to salute all Saints internationals. Their achievement is Saints achievement. We're all bigged up for Clyne and Forster. But I for one am just as proud for the likes of Morgan, Jose, Graziano and others getting their international call up too.

Good luck getting people to sing a song celebrating the success of people from other nations than their own, and with a lengthy list of country names in no particular order. It's hard enough getting songs going when the words actually form a sentence. Not to mention that international caps have been a contributing factor to us losing players to bigger sides previously and the whole international system and potential for injury interferes with our chances of club success now we have significant numbers involved.

I am confused by this as last season we were being praised for saving the England football team. Everyone seemed proud of the fact that we fielded so many English players, are we now proud of just having two or three?

It's ironic. We have Matt Targett and others waiting for their chance, but the fitness, lack of injuries, and quality form of a team that has so far seen few changes is denying them their chances. But as the season gets tougher, players will get knocks and I'm sure that we'll see more Academy players coming through again. It is a consequence of losing Rickie, Lallana, and with Jay injured that we have fewer home grown players on the pitch now.

But we have replaced them with outstanding footballers who are fantastic, skilful role models that can only raise the bar for our home grown youngsters to aspire to. Meanwhile I doubt if there is anyone who is not proud of our club's role, through our successes on the pitch, of our foreign players being picked for their national teams.

And yes, of course, there is a bit of tongue in cheek in the OP (for those who doubted). But it is stating an impressive fact. We have never before been able to boast so many international players at Saints. Wasn't it only about ten years ago that we were so proud of only James Beattie getting his English cap - the first Saints footballer for years?
