Anyone able to enlighten me as to some of the youngsters are progressing?

I see Targett scored on Monday for England under 20's and alongside Reed played the full 90.

Josh Sims featured for the England under 18's.

Callum Slattery is meant to be the next big thing. Anyone know much about him?

I also see a Marcus Barnes has scored 10 goals in 11 games. Turns 19 in December. No nothing about him.

Come across this on the OS which is quite insightful.

Anyone go to the games that can give an update?

a timely reminder of some names "for the future".

A bit more recently " someone on here " quoted the (now-departed) Jason Dodd.... as stating that the next Academy graduate to make the first team squad would be ...U21 striker Ryan Seager.

The U18's are in FA Cup action against West Ham at St Mary's on Tuesday 9th December so come and see for yourself.

I'd love to watch them more but Staplewood is still only open for family etc to watch and games at St Mary's are few and far between.

We've been back in the Premier League for two and a half seasons now. In that time we've had the following Academy players either make their debut for us or play for us in the Premier League:

2012-13

Adam Lallana (sold summer 2014 to Liverpool for about £25m)

James Ward-Prowse

Luke Shaw (sold summer 2014 to Manchester United for about £32m)

Ben Reeves (released summer 2013)

2013-14

Calum Chambers (sold summer 2014 to Arsenal for about £16m)

Harrison Reed

Sam Gallagher

2014-15 (thus far)

Lloyd Isgrove

Matt Targett

Jake Hesketh

Dom Gape

So that's eleven players in under three seasons which is absolutely prolific no matter what way you look at it - even more so when you consider the progress we have made as a club and that we have always spent money to improve the team as well.

Interestingly, perhaps the only position not represented there in pretty much a whole team to have played Premier League football is goalkeeper.

The thing that I find amazing is how easily each of them seem to slot into the first team on their debuts/first seasons. Consistently so. It always seems less of a risk bringing an academy player into the team, than importing a player from abroad who isn't used to the Premier League.

The first team have looked drained over the past few games, but what an advantage for Koeman to be able to bring in the fresh energetic talents of the youth team. He has seemed a little nervous to do so before now, and I'm wondering if yesterday opened his eyes a bit. They are unfazed, and they take tactical instruction very well. It wouldn't be right for every game, but I do think he can use the kids more when he needs to.

Impressive! Is there any info available for how this compares to the rest of the PL clubs.

If (as I suspect) we have had more academy products in our first team than anybody else, it's a great selling tool for the club to use when trying to attract young talent. I'm bias but I wouldn't want my son at any other club.

I don't have any stats to hand so I took a quick look at Wkipedia for the clubs I suspect would have a lot of Academy graduates play for them:

Man Utd - 15 (Rafael, Evans, Welbeck, Scholes, Cleverley, Fletcher, Fabio, Lawrence, Wilson, Januzaj, Mcnair, Lingard, Thorpe, Keane, Blackett)

Arsenal - 9 (Szczęsny, Wilshere, Fabianski, Coquelin, Mannone, Gibbs, Gnabry, Miquel, Akpom)

Aston Villa - 12 (Clark, Lichaj, Baker, Albrighton, Bannan, Herd, Agbonlahor, Gardner, Delfouneso, Wiemann, Robinson, Grealish)

I don't think any other club would be anywhere near us four.
