andoru Posted 20 November, 2014 Share Posted 20 November, 2014 Our neighbours and self-proclaimed local rivals got dumped out by Aldershot I see. Too bad. They'll have to wait yet another season for a chance to get at us in the cups. http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/29999399

Patrick Bateman Posted 20 November, 2014 Share Posted 20 November, 2014 With a bit of luck we'll get Bournemouth in the League cup semis. Next best thing. Not really, I just don't consider that a rivalry. I'd love a derby match with the fishy ones, which is why I'm glad they didn't go out of business. Have to hope they make a couple of rounds in either cup next year now

They lauded it over us when they beat us 4-1 back in our League One days in the cup at SMS. (I was there!) I'd love just one game where our awesome Premier League team of Internationals can play their League Two collection of inadequate youngsters and journeymen, just one game. Then we can lay the rivalry to rest for years.

Lighthouse Posted 20 November, 2014 Share Posted 20 November, 2014 So which local teams are now more of a threat than Pompey? Bompey, Brompey and Rompey obviously in the Championship. Swompey are fairly local too. Plompey are South Coast but a long way off so they don't really count. Eompey aren't far off these days and Aompey beat them in the Cup. saint1977 Posted 20 November, 2014 Share Posted 20 November, 2014 I'm with CB Fry, Pompey needed a third round derby versus Saints, we didn't other than it might have been useful to give some fringe and academy players a run out in front of a full house. It would have been a vital income stream for them and Hampshire Police. There's a small part of me that wanted us to play them and exceed the 7-0 from the FA Youth Cup last year but overall, best to keep them firmly in the shade of lower-mid-table League 2 and being knocked out by a non league outfit. Hope their league and cup wins in the 1930s and 1940s keep them sustained for the next 25 years of being in League 2 with the odd promotion into League 1 to enjoy. We don't need to play them but I certainly miss the derbies. They are the best atmoshperes by miles. In most seasons a derby would be the highlight. The9 Posted 20 November, 2014 Share Posted 20 November, 2014 (edited) It's not in-house though, they have to travel to their Horton Heath "physio department" for those Only the ones in the "centre". They're extra. Massages to the left and right are pretty standard. On an unrelated note, you'd think they'd be focusing on providing the most cost-effective measures of improving their players by now, wouldn't you? Three physios probably isn't that many for a 30+ squad, even in L2. Moaning about it seems completely pointless, it's hardly a luxury in a business based around physical exertion. Dynamo Naive Posted 20 November, 2014 Share Posted 20 November, 2014 Deserved win for the Shots last night. I hope they go on to a have a much needed lucrative run. david in sweden Posted 21 November, 2014 Share Posted 21 November, 2014 Don't think that is permitted any more. .....which would be a shame for them..... (if such a fixtured came about). Used to be seen as a valuable boost to a small club's economy. Bad decision. Aldershot's game with Pompey, was " a sell-out " - just under 5000 fans. I think Eastleigh has an even lower capacity at their ground?.

The Cat Posted 21 November, 2014 Share Posted 21 November, 2014 I think Eastleigh has an even lower capacity at their ground?. Even when the new stand is finished capacity will only be 5000. This is enough for football league standards. They can expand again to 7500 but no point as despite increased attendances they would be unlikely to get anywhere near filling it apart from the odd one off cup game.
