Plymouth vs Saints - Post Match Thoughts

exit2

Recommended Posts

Just getting into my time machine. I know that you should not interfere with history but this time i am.

Rupert holds his nerve and ignores the vocal minority who protest at the appointment of Glenn Hoddle in Spring 2004.

Hoddle is appointed. With his experience he is able to hold the dressing room and does not lose their respect.

We start a slow rebuild......

Back on 2008. OK, we have just beaten Liverpool 2-0 to go 6th in the Prmier League.

Come on, be honest! Who expected us to get anything?

I don't necessarily expect a win every match; but I do expect some passion, pride, guile, willingness to compete, and more than 1 effort that actually challenges their keeper.

If we didn't turn up it couldn't be much worse. We are the joke of the Championship, and the team that everybody looks forward to playing.

3 points out of 21 since Reading win and that was supposed to be our turning point!!! Add to that our home form and any other Manager/Coach would have been sacked.

I am afraid our financial position has done for us. We will not likely go into administration but relegation is becoming more a certainty now.

Ron,

When I last had contact with the inner circle (prior to the Lowe/Wilde circus rolling in to town) it was anticipated that administration was inevitable by Feb 2009 unless investment was forthcoming and that was based on average crowds of 17000. So what has changed ?

Kind Regards

Just a suggestion, Jan, old mate, but we have failed to score in 5 of the last 7 games - I think that just might possibly be where our problem lies.......

(or possibly the 10 goals conceded in the last 4 games)

Oscar Gobern in the starting line-up?

That tells you all you need to know.

These players are NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

We cannot play four professional players and seven kids every week and not expect to get tonked.

Why oh fecking why do we persist with players who are just not experienced enough yet???

Oh yeah, because we have a grade A moron for a chairman.

Portaloo please just flush off back to the flat boring land from whence you came. Leave this once proud club alone to die with at least some dignity.

You appear clueless and are rapidly looking like you will inherit the crown of being the worst Saints' manager, currently held by dear old spearmint "Wrigley."

To think I nearly renewed my two season tkts this season. What a lucky escape.

Nothing to say that has not been said for the past few months. Players not knowing how to go forward, how to defend and how to shoot. Had 1 shot on goal the whole game where as KD made loads of good saves. Im sure people will say we were unlucky but the truth is for all our possesion as always we did nothing. Plymouth were 2-0 up and did what all the teams have done at that point and simply switch off. They were crap and couldnt be arsed but we still couldnt produce anything. Add to that Jan is a gutless idiot with no balls who decided changing tactics from 1 up front to 1 different guy up front....again. The guy says we cant play any different way, well cheers for trying then Jan, we appreciate your experience and insight but lets give someone else a try hey. Do the noble thing and **** off as you are now officially the worst manager in our history and have presided over our worst result sequence in our history. Resign or things will start getting heated and i gurantee you if you came to the pubs i go to you would not be getting an easy ride.

3 points from 21 on offer is **** poor and the only reason we are not in the drop zone is because teams below us have not taken advantage of it. But that 5 points gap has turned into a 1 point gap. 4 defeats in a row and 13 defeats from 25. Anyone else did that at any other club/business/job they would be out. But you wont be fired due to Lowe not being able to accept he would be seen as making a mistake, he cant handle that.

JAN OUT - WILDE OUT - LOWE OUT

McGoldrick hasn't scored in 10 games, BWP has our only three goals in the last 7 games and is left out again.

In 1959/60 we won the league, hardly made a change, travelled by train or coach, played on mudheap, no grass pitches. The players had no problem.

Our team, play on lawns, are pampered, allegedly far fitter then old time players, play with a light ball they can't kick, injured regularly, play fewer games each, they are taking the pi**.

But [JP] wont be fired due to Lowe not being able to accept he would be seen as making a mistake, he cant handle that.

Exactly. Lowe's ego would simply not allow him to admit he has made a mistake. I doubt that RL has EVER admitted he had made a mistake in his whole life. Therefore JP is safe at SFC until Lowe goes.

LOWE OUT.

Morph all due respect but the crowd you were backing(all the drip drip of them just about to move etc) have let us down big time.We were looking forward to having hope. They were all talk and since RL and wilde has come back they have slashed the clubs costs. So perhaps adminsirtration has been put on hold relegation has not it seems.

I will lose my patience with RL if he does not act decisivily and accept he has ben wrong in his choice of manager who is not cuting it.The youth/home product thing I can accept the inept mangement I cannot. The side selected was always going to be too weak.

I say again I cant understand what Jan is saying and so how can expect the young players to understand orders on the pitch.

I have just got back from the game.

Firstly, the result is clearly of the upmost importance at this time of the year. A loss was the last thing we needed.

The first half was probably shaded by Plymouth who created most chances. The first goal was Lancashire's fault, who passed a ball from the six yard box back out to their winger who crossed it in for Fallon to head it in unmarked. I thought Lancashrie continually got beaten in the air and looked out of his depth. He seems more of a 'footballer' than a 'defender'.

The penalty in the second half came quite quickly. We were at the other end so cannot comment on it. The saints players seemed very upset by it and surrounded the ref for a while.

After the second goal I felt we looked very comfortable. We knocked the ball around very well in all areas, but with no real penetration. McD came closest hitting the post from a narrow angle.

Goburn and Smith looked particuarly good. Goburn played in the centre and reminded me very much of Carlton Palmer - both in stature and with his energy levels. Smith looked very good and beat the left back with ease. He looks a real prospect, but needs to work on his end product.

I did not think we missed Lallana too much. But as WGS used to say, we knocked the ball around well but it was more a case of 'propaganda football'. We need an end product.

The local radio in Devon had an interview with Sturrock. He felt we played decent football but lacked penetration and overplayed in the wrong areas. He felt the pen was soft.

no manager in their right mind would want this job. There's going to be a strange generation gap of saints fans as no-one new will want to support us whilst we're playing like this. I'm not look forward to playing manchester united while we're playing like this. We're a poor excuse for a football team at the moment.

If Jan was to leave or get the sack there would be a very big queue for the vacant post not that we would be able to afford many of them.

Utter rubbish - and by that I mean JP. He's lost the dressing room and who wouldn't with Lowe interferring and appointing umpteen new coaches to 'help him'. The experiment is DEAD you stupid idiot Lowe...get these clowns out of our club and appointment somebody who knows how to manage a team. It cannot get any worse, lets face facts.

Thought we might surprise them but another poor effort. My small hope faded away when I saw McGoldrick had kept his place. I don't know why you'd reward such distain. Anyway, no shame in losing with the squad we have, but I expect more fight and more attack.

Why no Jake Thomson? Never seen Smith do anything. Just want to see us scoring regularly so we feel we can always get back into games. At the moment, we concede, we've lost.

Rupert, you must must must forget McGoldrick or he'll cost you your job and us our CCC status.

Fixed it for you.
