Firewalking = success

Six Saints players who participated in the "mind over matter" fire walking exercise during the 2013 pre-season have now gone on to win their first England cap and all within a period of just 15 months. All six were involved on our first home game that season v Sunderland and while Lambert had just won his first cap by then, who could have predicted five of his colleagues that afternoon would soon join him in an England shirt. The only other Englishman involved in that game for us was Ward-Prowse. Will he make it 7 out of 7?

Its an amazing record, I doubt any club has managed even close to something similar. Add in Schneiderlin getting his France debut and Fonte getting called up for Portugal (I reckon he might get a debut against Argentina this week), the record is even more impressive.

To answer your question fully, I'm not sure Ward-Prowse will quite make it to international level, but he's got loads of time to prove me wrong.

It is nice that being good for saints now means you have a good chance of an international call up. When we were last doing well, there was never any real talk of call ups for Oakley, Marsden, erm...Ormerod? Dodd never got close to the full squad. Delap only got a few caps, Beattie was very lucky to get a cap before he left.

nowadays we're all a bit annoyed if one of our regulars doesn't get a call up, shows that we consider this to be among the best saints teams ever put together.

FF, is there a definitive list of players who won their first international caps whilst playing for Southampton? I seem to recal there used to be an honours board at the Dell which included all international caps, but our recent record of first caps is mightily impressive.

Yea there is a definitive list which the club tweeted this weekend. I think the nos is around 18 but I will check

interesting observation Duncan, a bit of a change from the expression " getting your fingers burnt ", I suppose.

Firewalking ?....mind over matter .....:scared:......still if they don't mind, it doesn't really matter.

well that can't be too bad- even talking up an injured player.

Although he's still learning, JWP oozes confidence and communicates well. In 5 years ...possibly even Captain material?

That is the England player list, so do we have a list of other players from other countries who made their international debuts whilst playing for Saints?n Gareth Bale for Wales, Ian Baird for Northern Ireland, etc?

Er.....Chris Baird ???

and probably....Morgan Schneiderlin for France.
