Rodriguez for man city

Batman

Recommended Posts

Not sure you would. He is seriously highly rated and Spurs were linked a lot at 18m in the summer.

He wouldn't come here (unless we were CL).

Why on earth not !

Toby was a Champions league Finalist last year and plays for the 4th best rated nation in the world... And he was happy to come here.

Are you that lacking in our own self-esteem?

The latest on a random website, in which the author claims to have spoken to people at the club, is that he's got some swelling on the knee so is looking at January now.

But yeah, I also find the official club silence on Jay quite telling.

Maybe he eloped with Sam Gallagher.

Don't like to say it but it wouldn't surprise me if we've seen the last of Jay. Its a horrible injury. Like as already been pointed out his pace is/was a major part of his game, he may never regain that now. Bloody hope I'm wrong but we've seen it before, Michael Svensson for instance

i think we will see him again but I really can't see it being this season. Many players when returning from a long, long layoff such as this get little muscle injuries when they are close to playing again. If RK is now talking about February it only needs one more set back and that's as good as the season over, he's going to need a fair few reserve matches or behind closed door friendlies to get anywhere near Premiership fit. I don't think he will play in the first team until pre season.......now wether that pre season is with us remains to be seen !

Koeman said "Maybe January, maybe February. He won't be rushed back." when asked about likely return date for Jrod at this afternoon's press conference.

.....just the right sort of comment to deter clubs from bidding in the January window........and a win-win situation.

1)....we admit he needs longer to recover, and if he does come back all guns blazing in the Spring, he'll do well for us ...

2).... IF he is intent on going in the summer, then he will have increased his value even more........

Agree that this rumour needs flushing

rare I agree with you!

Why are people even discussing this J-Rod is going nowhere in this window as he is far to bigger risk, serious knee injury now requiring a second surgery you'd never get insurance on him and I can't imagine even Man City being willing to flush the sort of money it would take to get him down the toilet. I'm increasingly concerned about the amount of time he has been out, everyone kind of assumes that players recover from this type of injury these days as so many do but there are still a number who's careers are finished by this type of thing. I hope Jay comes back fit and strong and the same player he was it would be a shame for him to be cut down just as he was fulfilling his potential.

Theo took over a year and he has only just tentatively re-emeged in Arsenal's team.

Let him go we are doing well without him

I can understand that but if we qualify for any sort of European football then we will need to add another 5 or 6 players minimum so should look to keep hold of good players.

He was right up there with our best players last season and scored lots of great goals.

A team like City or Spurs will only buy him if they have info that he has fully recovered and we wouldnt have offeres a 5 year deal without thinking that he will too.

Really hope he stays, he is class (hence why these type of teams are tracking him).

Jay Rodriguez has a significant contract offer on the table from Southampton. #saintsfc

Rodriquez and his advisors must be pretty confident in his ability to return to full form and fitness pretty quickly. I still find it surprising if teams are willing to sink £20m without seeing him play regularly for 6 months plus.

Indeed and I am sure that he won't go anywhere this window.

As others have said though, if he doesnt sign a new contract in the summer then we pretty much have to sell to ensure we get a good fee that can be reinvested.

It's a strange situation. At absolute best, how much football is Rodriquez going to play this season? It would be a great achievement if he's even on the bench by the end of Feb at this rate. Will he have played enough football come the summer to justify another side paying £20m for him? But alternatively, if he doesn't sign a new contract, we need to sell. Strange situation really.

I think the tables have turned on Rodriguez as when the contract offer was initially given to him he saw all the players leaving and probably felt we were going to struggle so held all the cards. Now though we're doing exceptionally well and he hasn't had any game time and probably won't play much until the end of the season. If I was the club I'd tell his advisors he has a month to sign the contract until it will be withdrawn and maybe another contract will be issued with less favourable terms.

Saying that, if he comes back as good as when he left he'll be a great asset but we have proven ourselves without him and with the black box we can probably replace him for less than what we'll receive if we sell him.

He has all the cards - he has 12 months left to run on his deal and clubs who can and will offer far better terms are after reportedly after him. Even if he didn't play this season, he has 12 months to prove his fitness and get back upto speed before leaving on a free transfer and pocketing even more money. And if there were doubts over his fitness then surely Saints wouldn't offer him such a big deal? I am afraid he holds all the cards.

He had 3 operations on his knee, the original doctor made a mess of the first procedure. He has also had a clear out of his knee since then. I'll be surprised if he's the same player.

I heard similar as well - for a player like Jay who's game is centered a lot around his pace, that's a huge blow.

But if that's the case, surely he'd jump at a new bumper contract offered by us? Unless that's not on the table anymore?

If people who post on here know this kind of information then the likes of Spurs, Man City and Liverpool definitely will as well. There's no way anyone will pay £20m plus if he's had a botched knee op and then corrective surgery.

Or you would hold fire and see if anyone was daft enough to offer you a 5yr £100k /wk contract, who has a very well appointed fitness suite to treat your dodgy knee for the duration of your contract.

One thing is certain in football, there is always someone eager to be separated from their hard earned.

FWIW I think he'd be mad to not take the new contract we've offered him.

I would agree if it wasn't for Man City, Liverpool, Spurs and maybe others monitoring him.

He will see if their interest is genuine before considering signing it you would have thought.

If he was seriously concerned for his career then he would have signed our contract as soon as offered and if it was that bad we wouldnt have offered him one!

He is in control of the situation and despite being injured is in a strong negotiating position.

Maybe he's biding his time, waiting for his agent to tell him about serious interest. If that's what's happening then sod him, take away the contract offer and tell his agent to contact the club when he's ready to talk then offer a new one. Could be a risky game he's playing.

I assume it's a conditional contract or there's adequate insurance available because he is not fit to work and no guarantee that he will get to his previous level. All this talk of clubs wanting to buy him seems odd to me.

I've said it before on a previous thread and I'll say it again.. If Jay Rodriguez wants to leave Saints then we should take the cash and let him go while we can.

It would be a huge insult to Southampton Football Club if he is angling for a move elsewhere. The club, his current employer, has put in a huge amount of time, effort and resources into his rehabilitation from a potentially career ending injury for over 10 months by the time he kicks a ball in anger again. It would be particularly galling if he wants to go to a club like Spurs who could potentially finish below us this season...reuniting with MP might be the main incentive there. If he was to go to City he would have to join the queue behind Aguero, Bony, Dzeko and whichever other proven international forwards they have on their books at the time. He arguably wouldn't be in our 1st XI if he was available on Saturday and he only needs to look at some of those who left in the Summer to realise that the grass isn't always greener. My heart bleeds for you Dejan.

If he does go, I'll be happy that the club did what they could to keep him and confident that any transfer fees will be invested in a quality replacement. We lost our 2nd and 3rd top scorers from last season and it hasn't affected us this season.

However, my hope is that Jay is desperate to get back in a Saints shirt to repay the support from the club and fans in helping him back to full fitness - his name was sung during the final five league games of the season after his injury. And if he ends up signing a 5 year contract with Saints some time this year - great!

Why would anyone want him at this moment in time? He had a set back, he's not been seen for nearly a year. Why would you pay anything until you've seen him back playing and scoring? It would be stupid for the buying club to do that, and it would be incredibly dim for Jay as well. He could easily end up like Scott Sinclair or Jack Rodwell without any trouble.
