Granted he is. But so was Suarez, and look how close that took Lolerpool last year. Chelsea as a team and squad this year are streets ahead of them last year. It will take a meltdown of biblical proportions for them to cøck up the title from here.

Also, massive lol at me, who was unsure about Costa in the summer. Massively wrong on that one KRG, least I said at the time something along the lines of "now I've said this, he's clearly going to bang in 25" which looks pretty possible at the moment.

A long term injury to Terry and/or Cahill could make things interesting (assuming we don't suffer the same misfortune). Their front 4 is possibly the best the Prem has ever seen.

Wow please tell me you are not repeating something you've heard from a TV pundit and this is just your opinion.

I'd take Henry/Bergkamp/Pires/Ljungberg every time. (mainly for Henry at his best - simply unplayable)

Snap this was about what I was thinking. Also possibly one of the man utd sides. Treble winning team or Van Nistelrooy/Solskjaer/Beckham/Giggs/ was pretty terrifying not to mention the rest of the team.

No its really not. It might generously get given 3rd...

Tell me about the journey here from "No, it's really not" to "might get 3rd.."

Not sure why people are doubting that Costa, Hazard, Oscar and Cesc could not be up there with the very best.

Opinions, I guess, my opinion is that they could end up being the best.

We don't doubt they're good, but they are not the best by a long way. You just claimed that they were the best. Where as myself, and the two following posters who followed me, don't agree. Personally don't think you can put them in the same league as the united and arsenal ones... Players like Henry, Giggs, Ronaldo, pires etc in their prime, and in those teams were far far better than Oscar and Costa...

They are probably on a par with Stirling, Suarez and Sturridge from last year, which is obviously good.

You could even argue that (on paper at least) Falcao, Di Maria, Rooney, Van Persi and Mata is the best attakcing line up yet seen in the prem. (as i said, on paper!)

You also have the Yorke, cole, giggs etc line up to consider.

Its just a disagreement bud, but you claimed they were the best, most would vouch for either an Arsenal or United front line.

Christ there is Aguero, Silva, Negredo, navas and Nasri to consider - What they were doing last season was far better than Chelsea.

Martin Keown and Alan Shearer discuss Saints' title credentials.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29983057

Keown: "Southampton should not be dismissed"

Shearer: "I don't think there is any pressure on them"

Funny how Shearer always talks us up :)

Genuinely think we have a chance of 2nd if we hold our nerve and don't have any significant injury losses eg Forster or Tadic but can't see us overhauling Chelsea still aim high and who knows.....

Let's be honest, I don't think any of us really believe we are in the title race, possibly not even the top four. But, just the fact people are even having this conversation is an amazing thing, after the way Saints were written off in the summer. We've come a long long way, but there's still a long way to go yet. I'll be dead happy if we finish top six and make it to Wembley in the League Cup.

The front 4 of Chelsea has it all, in a game that is very different to when the likes of Ronaldo (who I rate as the best the Prem has seen - not fishing here either ;-) ) Henry, vanHorseFace etc. The 4 Chelsea players mentioned are a balanced, potent attack with an average age of 25 - if they stay together they could end up there as the best. I do enjoy watching them play, Costa and Cesc being the perfect purchases for them.

The Aguero, Silva, Negredo etc were fantastic last season but please leave Nasri out of this - Navas has it to prove as well. Negredo and Aguero didn't work together, despite the frightening prospect they offer.

I'd have to disagree with the 3 Mickeys you've included, I can't see Sterling or Sturridge getting in a team ahead of Costa or Hazard / Oscar. No argument on Suarez though.

It's all about opinions, if Chelsea don't dominate the Premier League for the next 3 years I'd be very surprised.

We are very much in the Top 4 race, with an approximate 50% chance of achieving it.

They could. At present though either the Bergkamp, Henry etc Arsenal four already mentioned - or Ronaldo/Rooney/Tevez/Giggs from the MUFC team that won the 2008 Champions League

And Fabegas is not playing as part of the Chelsea front four is he?

On a different tact the much repeated fact that we've not played and beaten a "top" side yet belittles our victories over West Ham, Swansea, Newcastle and Stoke who occupy 4th, 5th, 8th and 9th places respectively despite them dropping all 3 points against us.

I think if you consider the last time Arsenal were getting victories over the big teams then we have a chance of top 4 even if we do not beat any of them. As long as we do enough to keep up there.

Indeed.

It also forgets that against Liverpool, we probably deserved at least a draw, despite 6 players making their debut for us that day.

Also, we didn't have Alderweireld or Mane at that time.

Since we got Alderweireld, we've only conceded two goals while he's been on the pitch.

Liverpool game defiantly came to soon for us if we played them now I think we'd win comfortably. Spurs are the game that annoys me they have been pretty shocking in every game apart from against us were they played well above their normal level for this season and we had a real off day (and even then a draw would have been a fair result)

As posted by Granty on Twitter ....3 hours ago

Spurs and Liverpool losing at the weekend means that #saintsfc now have a 100% record against teams currently in the top half of the PL.

Such a shame those 2 picked up 3 points against us, as minus those they'd both be sitting just 2 points of relegation!!

Good point.

A top 4 finish would be phenomenal for us, would also mean avoiding the appalling Europa League... :D

Have to feel a little nervous about whether the run will continue if only because I'm a Saints fan. We were in a similar position at this time last year after 11 games, having got 22 points with only 5 goals conceded, then after the Nov international break, we lost 6 games out of 10 and let in about 18 goals over about 6 weeks. That was while Artur Boruk was out with a broken hand, so events can change situations but even with that bad patch, we stayed in the top half of the table. Everyone talks about this 'tough' set of games coming up, but we are far better placed to get through that patch this year and with a stronger squad than last year. We can't expect to win every game, and we should be prepared for a defeat or two, but this team will be trying to win every game and it seems very unlikely that we will have the meltdown that happened at the end of 2013. We should get at least 10 points out of the next 10 games and very probably more. Even if was to be as few as 10 points it's unlikely we would have dropped out of the top four and with 'easier' games to come should be well in the race. So, nervous, but more exciting than challenging Reading for the Championship title.
