Got to be player of the season so far.

Since signing from Crystal Palace he has been immense.

Being made captain has pushed him further.

'Don't you want me baby!!!!"

Have to say when Jose planted his flag in the ground and was given the captaincy, our summer started to turn for the better. For me he has been a model pro and deserves the accolades he's receiving while that tossed who played with him last season is being slaughtered week in week out by Liverpool fans and the press. I have to hold my hands up and say I saw Jose as the weaker of the 2 centre backs the last few seasons, almost in the image of Claus who would often see and be distracted by metaphorical Butterflies until Killer partnered him and straightened him out.

He is so right sided that even players like Yoshida a right side preferred centre back had to adapt to play on the left, even Toby's preferred side is on the right but has had to adapt to play on the left.

When the player supermarket opened last summer Lovren was bought in to partner Yoshida playing in his natural position on the right, with Jose as back up, Yoshida got nobbled in and by the Confederation cup and it seems like Jose thought "that ain't happening" rolled his sleeves up and kept Yoshida out.......... Hats off to him for that.

Now here's the funny thing in light of how this season has got going, and I have obviously wrongly maligned Jose in my head, Jose stepped down a league to play for us in the First division 5 odd years ago (no-one ever questioned whether he could make the steps up like they asked of Lambert). Watching the stuttering stumblebum performances Lovren has had since moving to Liverpool, I think they identified and bought the wrong centre back as without Jose at his side Lovern has looked like a one legged man in an @Rse kicking contest this season.

Jose Fonte I salute you, and apologise for thinking you were the weakest link at Centre Back.

I turned to my mate at Layton Orient away (Barnard scored) and told him to watch Fonte.. We both agreed Fonte played with a pipe in his mouth and wearing his slippers... Sooooo good in league 1.

Fantastic in the Championship and now showing his class in the Prem.

To think he dropped down a division to join our 'project'.

Captain marvellous :-)

Best uncapped player in the Prem?

Assuming a) he hasn't got one and b) anybody else can come up with anyone better?

Read bits on here today that he has 'stepped up' this season, rubbish. He never went away for me, one of our very best players last season, he stepped up to the PL when some doubted him, he was great in the Championship too. How good is he? He made Lovren look like £20m worth of footballer .... .

As we've gone through the divisions, at each stage Jose seems to have been thought of as "good at this level, but we'll have to replace when we move up ".

How wrong was that? He's now proved himself at every level and is a great leader too.

As the Scousers are finding, Loveren ain't so good without him. For me, he's one of the first names every week. And I read somewhere that he's close to a Portugal callup.

My favourite Jose moment? Has to be his goal at Brighton. ☺

I seem to remember reading that Palace fans were laughing at us that Fonte was still in the side last season but he has earned his place, grown into the role and proved himself above and beyond what many though him capable of. I do include myself in that.

I thought the same with Rickie in the Championship and he proved me wrong both there and when we got promoted back to the PL.

Basically I know nothing :)

Should have been captain last season rather than that tippy tap ******. He was a rubbish captain.

As much as I dislike him, this isn't true... The players say he is a lot more vocal than he appears and he was always in the ref ear's with decisions. He still does it now at Liverpool, during the Madrid game he was always on at the ref when decisions went against them and off the ball, so he is a noisy little bloke. Shame he's not got much between the ears otherwise he might actually say something sensible to the refs!

He was a good example (at the time) of a player who had come from the academy and through the dark days so the younger players could aspire to that, too.

He wasn't a natural captain, as we saw when it took him a year to adjust to it. He was never really captain material, yeah he spoke a lot and shouted at the referee, but there were stronger candidates to be captain rather than him I think. Lambert, Morgan and Fonte for one.

I believe we did it mainly for the reason you state - a kid from the academy, all the way through, and what other academy kids could aim for.

I truly hope none of them turn out like that precious idiot though.
