alpine_saint Posted 8 November, 2014 Posted 8 November, 2014 Seriously. As long as we dont screw up against a poor Villa team (over 2 weeks rest), City just dropped 2 points on us again today, and looking at the other games for the other top 4 or 5 during that time, I reckon we have a good chance of still being top 3 when we come to the Burnley game, even if we blow all 3 games, which I dont reckon we will......
beatlesaint Posted 8 November, 2014 Posted 8 November, 2014 City haven't been brilliant away from home for over a season, Arsenal, well you never know which one you are gonna face , they are like a split personality, and Man Utd ? Hardly strike fear anymore do they ?
Jimmy_D Posted 8 November, 2014 Posted 8 November, 2014 The difficult run of games coming up, I don't see them as a threat now. They're an opportunity.
Turkish Posted 8 November, 2014 Posted 8 November, 2014 You're right alps. I keep hearing about this tough run we've got and yes Arsenal away and Chelsea will be tough. However City are not clicking at the moment, Man United haven't won away all season so I don't see why we can't come out of those unbeaten at the very least. Everton at home is very winnable too. Of course it's going to be difficult and they've all got quality players but nothing to fear at all.

Agreed... except that its not 2 weeks rest as most of our players are now Internationals.. so 1 European qualifier and a friendly the following tuesday.

Bucks Saint Posted 8 November, 2014 Posted 8 November, 2014 Chelsea possibly apart, the others will fear us, more than the other way around.
SNSUN Posted 8 November, 2014 Posted 8 November, 2014 It's an interesting run of fixtures now rather than a scary one, in part due to our form, our squad strengthening and our players individual talent, and also in part due to our more esteemed opponents struggling in one way or another. Simply, our wins and, ipso facto our points total, mean every point we take off the big boys is a bonus. However an added bonus is our goals conceded. 5. In 11 games. That's under half what Chelsea can boast. Even Aguero would struggle to score against us at the moment!
Toadhall Saint Posted 8 November, 2014 Posted 8 November, 2014 Who are you and what have you done with Alpine Saint? ? I've always thought that as long as the team do not think like some saints fans and plenty of the so called pundits then we could carry on "surprising" the so called experts.
trousers Posted 8 November, 2014 Posted 8 November, 2014 The difficult run of games coming up, I don't see them as a threat now. They're an opportunity. This. I actually believe these so called more difficult games will suit our game more than trying to squeeze out results against teams like Stoke, Hull and Leicester whose tactics against us are more about stifling our play. I can see us getting points against the 'big teams' over the next couple of months. That comment may of course come back to haunt me!!
S-Clarke Posted 8 November, 2014 Posted 8 November, 2014 This. I can see us getting points against the 'big teams' over the next couple of months. That comment may of course come back to haunt me!! To be honest, I see where you're coming from. Our start has kind of enabled us to go into these games with no massive pressure, we can just pit ourselves against them and see how we do. You're also right in that they're not going to come and park the bus, they will attack and there will be space. I think we'll win at last one of the home games, but away will be the test.
suewhistle Posted 8 November, 2014 Posted 8 November, 2014 It seems strange that our 'six-pointer' against Chelsea will now be for entirely different reasons than the one I am used to.
doddisalegend Posted 9 November, 2014 Posted 9 November, 2014 We have nothing to fear? Well having just watched MOTD I find myself rather scared of Sergio Agüero;)

Agree, Two other factors 1) will go into Man C, and good chance Arsenal and Man U games ahead of them...how will that change both teams' approaches? 2) if we do lose them, desite CB thinking makes for a relegation side, Arsenal have proven in past you can lose these games and make CL if you recover and beat lower teams consistently
CB Fry Posted 9 November, 2014 Posted 9 November, 2014 (edited) Agree, Two other factors 1) will go into Man C, and good chance Arsenal and Man U games ahead of them...how will that change both teams' approaches? 2) if we do lose them, desite CB thinking makes for a relegation side, Arsenal have proven in past you can lose these games and make CL if you recover and beat lower teams consistently That's not what I said at all. Let's deal in facts of what you have said, on this forum. I said your prediction of 9 points from ten games was a prediction for relegation form. Less than a point a game. And I am right, it is. You said 9 points from 10 games was "the level required for 5th/6th". It isn't. Its relegation form. A run like that would see us fade away into eighth, at best as we'd be down to 1.45ish points per game for the season. No chance, whatsoever, of us holding our league position on the back of a collapse like that. We'd be down to eighth-ish after 20 games, with 4th then looking as distant as it did last year. You predicted we will lose all five games coming up against the "big" teams (including Everton) on a prediction thread and then pretended you didn't predict those results. Well you did. Where we differ is I don't think we will lose all those games. I have far more faith in Ronald and the boys than you do. And the other way we differ is I don't need to attribute made up quotes to you, like you make up sh it about me. Everything I write above can be traced to quotes on this forum from you. Let's remember which one of us pretends predictions they make on a prediction thread aren't their predictions. Laughable. Edited 9 November, 2014 by CB Fry
SaintTex Posted 9 November, 2014 Posted 9 November, 2014 1) take care of games we are obvious favorites.. Villa, CP, Burnley... [9 points] 2) take a few points/drop a few points to.. Everton, ManCity, ManU, Arsenal, Chelsea...[minimal 5 points] -- not saying we couldn't get more than 5 points from those 5 games, but I would be very disappointed if we got less. 3) at the halfway point we will have 25 points + 9 points + 5 points = 39 points! I'll take 39 points at the halfway point!

Absolutely agree. We are just a different level these days. Well prepared and organised, and no mugs. I like the the cut of your jib, alpine saint is it? Pleased to meet you.
Nolan Posted 9 November, 2014 Posted 9 November, 2014 Quick stat.... Out of the current top 10, only Chelsea and Saints have played 4 other current top 10 teams AWAY from home.

Aguero is technically and clinically superb, and Chelsea are the only team that can penetrate Saints defence imo. We did nearly concede a goal against Leicester don't forget. Mind, we have contained Aguero in the past, so it is possible that we could get a draw against Chelski.
Guan 2.0 Posted 9 November, 2014 Posted 9 November, 2014 I like this new 'hardnut' version of Alpine.
Ohio Saint Posted 9 November, 2014 Posted 9 November, 2014 I'm really looking forward to our difficult spell of fixtures. Let's put this baby to bed one way or another......I've had a lifetime of supporting Saints, so I know how to lose...... It's the hope hope and anticipation that is killing me.

But yeah, no need for those guys to get all wrist-slitty on us.
hutch Posted 10 November, 2014 Posted 10 November, 2014 We haven't lost to a top 10 side yet this season
Son of Bob Posted 10 November, 2014 Posted 10 November, 2014 I'm genuinely excited to see how it goes against these 'top teams'. Would love to silence the critics of our current easy run once and for all. We'll probably lose all of them though...

Would love to silence the critics of our current easy run once and for all. We'll probably lose all of them though... Yeah, I'm pretty excited too to be honest. Not feeling any pressure, as even if we lose them all, we're still going to be in and around it all.
Give it to Ron Posted 10 November, 2014 Posted 10 November, 2014 I would, just one point from safety. We can get the deckchairs out knowing the job has been done. You think we will need 40 points this season...hahhahahah troll on.....

alpine_saint Posted 23 November, 2014 Author Posted 23 November, 2014 By my reckoning, this nightmare run is rapidly becoming irrelevant due to other results. A win against City would tide us over nicely, even if the Arse and Manyoo games go tittus verticus...

bilbot79 Posted 31 December, 2014 Posted 31 December, 2014 To be in 4th with 19 games to go is immense. The difference this year is that the 'expected' slide down the table a la Pochettino was arrested at 4th place. My confidence in the team is much higher this year. Last year Poch was worked out half way through the season and had no ace in the hole. Koeman changed the system successfully, 'in mine opinion' we have a good chance of 4th and if we get it I think Schneiderlin, Jrod and Clyne will sign. Once we are in Champs League we have much more staying power with our youth and could grow even more.
