England squad announcement

Anyone know what time it is? I hope Clyne actually gets a game this time. Bertrand and Cork could quite easily be in but I very much doubt it.

Also, I'm hearing Stewart Downing has been recalled!

On another note, Yoshida, Gardos, Davis and Alderweirald have been called up for their National teams. (Possibly more but those are just off the top of my head)

Downing has been utterly brilliant this season, so no surprise there. Be good to see Bertrand in there but he is still a few places behind.

I'm not disputing that. But I was surprised but presently surprised. I see Carrick is in, assuming he's going as a CM (having played for United at CB at the weekend) then it's a joke that he's going instead of Cork

I do agree.

But, if we were say Stoke/Swansea fans (for eg), how would we feel about a man that isn't even a guaranteed starter at a team like Saints getting in the squad.

I love Corky, but I feel perhaps him being here and not a nailed on starter may harm his England chances. I don't want him to leave though, of course.

Maybe not Cork then. Maybe I am being a bit biased as a Saints fan but there are several players I'd rather see in the England squad than Carrick. My issue isn't so much that Cork isn't in, it's who IS in instead of him. Mark Noble would have been a welcome addition for me.

Surely if Roy is picking on form Ryan should be pretty much 1st choice can't think of another English LB performing as well as him right now. Shaw has hardly impressed at Man U. Of course looking at the team Roy probably isn't picking players on form.

Fair points. I'm just playing devils advocate, as I said I do largely agree with you.

The inclusion of the permanent sub, Rickie Lambert, suggests that England are short of decent strikers. Given his lack of match practice since last April, I'm afraid Rickie would seriously struggle, even against Slovenia but I imagine he's only there as a sub and he is getting plenty of practice at sitting on a bench.

If Clyne doesn't play against Slovenia then surely he must get a game in the friendly against Scotland, otherwise what is the point of having him in the squad. He's arguably the best RB in the squad but Hodgson's 'Big Club Fixation' has to be overcome.

Dyer has been playing well for Swansea this and last season. Makes you wonder what he has to do to get in to the squad over a guy that only just returned to fitness for his club.

Or ahead of Andros Townsend. I know we don't have a great pool of players, but Roy seems incapable of picking the best of what we have.

It's sad that we have got the same old **** that we have had for years. OK there is the inclusion of a youngster or two, but the manager is doing same old, same old. We need to do a Germany. Start from scratch. Accept that we are going to lose and not do well for a few years, but ultimately come out stronger.Even then, the young German team in South Africa that wasn't expected to do well, spanked us good and proper. And then they had Brazil.

Roy has no balls. After the disaster of England in Brazil, he had a blank canvas. Even before going to Brazil he had a blank canvas and should have grasped that opportunity. All he did was take some youngish players, but stick to the same crap that we have endured for years and then have the gall to say that he thought the team did well at the WC. But no. We are stuck with some dinosaur. Maybe it is the right way to go in appointing a young manager, even if he has no club experience. Hell, I would rather Gary Neville manage the team than Hodgson. The results might not be great, but at least we would try and change to get better rather than the turgid crap that we have from a manager who is always trying to justify his **** selections.

Can't remember the last time I really enjoyed an England game. 1-5 against Germany? 4-1 against Netherlands? Didn't see the game where Theo got his hat-trick.

Go and sit on the bench at a big club, that'd prove to Hodgson that he's England material. It's amazing that after such a lacklustre world cup, Hodgson actually has the (lack of) nerve to name a squad with so many players who haven't proved themselves this season.

I've been a big fan of carrick over the years, good soccerballist and one of the few we have who can retain the ball. But I agree, doesn't really make sense to me, another backward move from Roy.

Weird.

kind of proves that if you are English and are at a big club, no matter if you're benched or returning from injury, you'll get selected for England. Lambert wouldn't be anywhere near if he was a sub for us for example.

This. Has the media picked up on anything yet, or are thinking this is fine.

Dyer is a good call, so is Routledge. Not amazing players, but surely better than an unfit Theo and a pretty poor Townsend?

Doubt they'll care much.

Although, if Clyne doesn't get any game time in this round of games then I think people may start talking.......best English RB this season by an absolute country mile, no contest.

The usual crazy selections from Roy. Picking some players who have played before or for top clubs ahead of those who are actually playing well and might mix things up a bit. At least he picked Berahino and Downing who have both excelled so far this season. But how can he justify Lambert and Walcott?

Question - given the exposure that our new facilities have had this week, especially the analyst suite, and the staff analysing all those games - do the FA have anything similar for looking at potential England players? Do they analyse all the players week in/week out, or do they just rely on scouts and staff and Woy watching games first hand? You'd think a progressive FA would look at how we do things (and other clubs to a lesser degree I'm sure) and want to introduce the best possible technology to ensure they're getting the best possible players to fit their squad and tactics etc.

Or is that too much like common sense for the FA to implement?

So what analysis do they do, do you think? Anyone got any insight?

I think their analysis starts and ends with Roy Hodgson and Ray Lewington going to 3pm matches in England.

That's pretty much it.

Interesting. So based on that, our best 11 would be

----------------------Forster----------------------

Clyne--------Cahill--------Jagielka---------Baines

Downing-----Henderson----Noble--------Sterling

--------Berahino------------Austin-----------------

Only two players not in the England squad there.

Sod it, let's give it a go!

The problem is not the players or the squad it's that Hodgson is way past his sell-by date as for Lewington - well words fail me. If all else fails shout louder at the players seems to be our world class strategy.
